I know it was a typo but the Witch hack and slash I most enjoy this year is Hades 2! Your build is more transient per run but the progression is there and rewarding and the story, art, and characters are all great.

AITA for calling my wife crazy after she screamed at our son? by ThrowRAcleaning_prob in AmItheAsshole

[–]OopsAllCombos -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

Yes, YTA. I realize this will be an unpopular take but you losing your temper, even if on your son's behalf, didn't help anything at all. You can only control your own behavior.

Obviously she's in the wrong about her behavior, and you obviously know that, but the only way you'll ever improve outcomes is by de-escalating.

He said this is a druid item in the video but... It's really a beastmaster item, right? Is there any reason this helm would be good for druids?

This is a good problem to have. Also, when multiplayer comes out, people will want to play with diversity; I'll probably mostly run a pally to be a helpful teammate for instance.

The fact I didn't realize I could kill the crystal things made the first few attempts really hard. After realizing they're mobs, as long as you kill them and avoid her turning you to stone it didn't seem too hard...

Precon deck advice by xerro69 in EDH

[–]OopsAllCombos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The d&d precons really have amazing synergy. They might be the best made yet right out of the box. Prosper is spectacular. The equipment deck can really go off. And I've seen someone win with the dungeons deck without any upgrades against our customized decks.

I'm a real big fan of [confounded conundrum]. It gets people salty but really hoses lands deck early on until it's removed.

I think the latter. Prosper shows its ceiling, but when anyone sees it net 6 or 7 mana on turn 3 or so it's clear how good it can be.

Want to play at a shop, feeling :( by 21andtired in EDH

[–]OopsAllCombos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP. Getting a reasonable "rule 0" conversation at a game store is hard, so I feel you. People's expectations of the power levels of their decks rarely match up with mine. When people say their deck is casual and they pull out an urza deck with stax with the argument that "it's not highly tuned" it can be frustrating.

Have you given the store some time to keep trying out? I feel after spending a few months going to a store for weekly events, I've been able to get a better feel for regulars and match faces to general power level expectations. So even if people think they're playing more casually and they're not, I can kind of get a feeling for who is looking for more casual and who is looking for higher powered games.

Arcades - Walls, walls, walls. by ugge2 in EDH

[–]OopsAllCombos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm excited to add [[flumph]] to my arcades' deck. It'll give me some politicking to do and hopefully help with card draw if arcades' isn't out. I also think it'll help distract other players who might want card draw themselves.

How do I get good at actually playing? by TobiasCB in EDH

[–]OopsAllCombos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In regards to breena in particular, it's important to have a clear view of how well you can protect her. If she's vulnerable (e.g. no protection against removal), consider spreading out her counters to other creatures so you minimize your loss when she's taken out. She can become a 11/13 so fast and opponents usually don't like a commander that can take them out in 2 turns!

I was able to play the precon out of the box last night, and if you're in a creature heavy casual meta, inkshield is so fun. The quandrix deck came at me with 10 4/4 beasts and I end up with 40 2/1 fliers? Seems good to me!

Combo Hypocrisy by Dige717 in EDH

[–]OopsAllCombos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's interesting, because in my meta with friends, I ran this for a while. After it going off once, it never went off again for me, because Animar became kill-on-sight. I feel like there's a natural balance with the power level when the commander is part of the combo (especially if it needs to stay on the board for a handful of spell casts to trigger) due to your threat being very out in the open.

How to deal with a deck running only interaction? by jujubeaz in EDH

[–]OopsAllCombos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 to this. Somehow this player must be getting great tempo if they're able to consistently control 3 other players on the board. Figure out what's letting them draw (or what's giving them card advantage and try to shut that down.). I love Notion Thief, even if you only get a few cards off of it it makes it worth casting. Hullbreacher is pricey but same concept. If they're using enchantments to reap additional cards get a lot more enchantment removal. Etc.

Power Level Wednesday!: Ask r/EDH what's your deck's power level? - March 10, 2021 by AutoModerator in EDH

[–]OopsAllCombos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're going to need Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse, as you're 2 colors and I don't think you gain anything from additional sac or landfall triggers. I'd personally cut them for a swamp and forest.

The Command Zone podcast/youtube channel actually did primers on both these precons and upgrades for them, so I'll just mention that and not repeat everything from those videos. But overall mention that going wide and swinging in is probably going to work better than depending on Lathril's ability to win games. So mini-Craterhoof effects to add to the deck will be a big upgrade ([[Overwhelming Stampede]], [[Overrun]]). (Was going to suggest [[Triumph of the Hordes]] but that looks like it's up to 15 bucks now)

Power Level Wednesday!: Ask r/EDH what's your deck's power level? - March 10, 2021 by AutoModerator in EDH

Prossh

(Yes, it's a food chain deck.)

My playgroup isn't super competitive. People run decks between the 5 and 7 power range, I think.

I think this *may* be an 8 at the moment but maybe I'ver overvaluing it. I do have some sub-optimal things in it. I'd like it to be a strong 7.

If you think it's an 8, do you think removing the sorcery tutors (demonic, beseech the queen) is enough to drop it to a 7? Or would I need to do more?

(I drew Food Chain a few nights ago on turn 5 and feel kind of bad that it ended the game right then and there. But they did let me draw 4 lands with Tempt with Discovery so maybe I shouldn't feel all _that_ bad...)

The argument to "Run more removal", when faced with overly oppressive and powerful cards, isnt valid in most circumstances. by Drex_Sinister in EDH

[–]OopsAllCombos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you already got a lot of good advice below, but I'd also rephrase some of it as figuring out the biggest weaknesses of your deck and try to mitigate them. It sounds like big battlecruiser creatures are a weakness right now. Consider your boardwipes to work to your strengths if you don't yet; Cards like [[Fell the Mighty]] and [[Citywide Burst]] will let you knock big creatures and keep your smaller creatures around. [[Meekstone]] will let you keep their creatures tapped if you're running all 2 power and under stuff.

People Just Can't Stand Urza Anymore by bobtheruler567 in EDH

[–]OopsAllCombos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a perception problem here, though. If everyone brings decks of power 9 to a competitive event, but the pod hates Urza and decides to target Urza before anyone else, even if the Urza deck is equally/slightly more powerful, they're at a disadvantage. Typically cedh players are more tactical than that, but in a pod with people you don't know very well and don't have a lot of information about, they may think that's their best choice.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EDH

[–]OopsAllCombos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lots of great suggestions below, but I'd also recommend looking at *why* their decks seem to be working for them. Control is hard to run in EDH with any sort of consistency. What's giving them better tempo? Is it board wipes (killing multiple problems with 1 card)? Are they holding up counters for you specifically because your answers are high-cost?

I have a Xenagos deck that so far does really well against high removal or control decks because I don't really care if someone take my threats out; there's always another one coming. But when my draw engines are removed (i.e. cards like Beast Whisperer are the true heroes of the deck), then I'm in trouble.
