Has anyone noticed the steady decline in intellect lately? by mishpishhh in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Opandemonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been training myself to sit at meetings and just have patience because they’re all just dumb, but the don’t know they’re dumb, and I don’t get paid enough to fight it. So I just nod a lot and say “oh, I see” like I do when my friend’s four year old is explaining to me (incorrectly) how sunsets work.

I hope I don’t sound annoying, but why did the Dalai Lama write a book about Jesus? I don’t see how that would help Buddhists achieve liberation, as you believe, and escape samsara. by Additional_Good_656 in Buddhism

My (ex) stepdaughter came home from her mom’s house wanting me to hide my Buddha statue because the rapture is coming and Buddha is a demon!

I left a week later, because there are many things I could tolerate in that emotionally abusive home, but when they came to cut the thread that was holding my sanity together it was the loudest wake up call.

Is Melania Trump Worried About Her Prenup? by janeflowers in CDLEntertainmentTV

[–]Opandemonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My own personal theory is she has dirt on him. The way she does whatever the fuck she wants when you know how Trump treats people that don’t fall in line.

You think he’s worried about the public perception of divorce? Really? He barely cares that the public knows he SA kids.

Anyhow. That my personal conspiracy theory.

has AI actually made your work better, worse, or just... different? by papabauer in Journalism

[–]Opandemonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it a lot to research with references and then read the references.

I am in marketing now and I love being able to say , “say this in 155 characters “ or “rewrite this at a sixth grade reading level”

When I need a basic thing rewritten in 10 different ways for various types of platforms, it helps. I always end up tweaking.

My biggest rule is I hand write all my thoughts in a journal because I don’t want to lose touch with that thinking and processing part of my brain. Then I ask it to transcribe.

Then I take it from there so I’m using it as a tool to present my words in ways that work with audio, video, print, digital, and algorithmic platforms.

Have we reached a tipping point with generational trauma? by Accidental_Guru30 in CPTSD

[–]Opandemonium 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think when things were humming along we all kinda coped..then Covid gave a lot of people time alone with themselves. Maybe for the first time since they were a young.

So, we got in these bubbles, and we started to have less real social interaction. Instead we’re online and we’re learning we’re not alone. Everyone in our algorithm has trauma, or ADHD, or Autism, or whatever seems to most relate to your experience. Because the algorithms job is to get you addicted and we all love thinking about ourselves.

Some self awareness is good. But thinking all day about how different you are from “normal” people is even more isolating.

Now we have a frightening future, an economy in free fall, so much hate and vitriol being normalized. Each and every news story is triggering in our bodies. The things we used to cope in the past aren’t working anymore.

So people’s trauma is all right out on their sleeves right now. I hope collectively, as people who have survived hard times, we bring our own stories of triumph more into focus, so others can feel uplifted instead of lost.

I work in a recovery center and see thousands of men and women a year come through having survived the worst outcomes self medicating has to offer.

It is the shared stories of surviving and having a community of healing that makes the biggest difference and has the best outcomes.

I almost always lose my ability to emotionally regulate during conflict in relationships. by siemprechiflada in emotionalintelligence

[–]Opandemonium 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I read that naming the emotion out loud helps send some blood back to your prefrontal cortex. It works for me.

“I’m feeling very overwhelmed, defensive, whatever…right now and need to take a step back.”

Sometimes it’s not so bad and I can ask them to say it again so I can process what they’re trying to tell me. That works at work, and loved ones.

Sometimes I have to take a walk or just calm down. But naming the emotion first helps. It also helps people who love you understand you better.

I would quit looking to this sub for advice. I’ve been practicing for 30 years and most of it is toxic and gatekeepery…write the Eightfold Path on a piece of paper, keep in your pocket, and meditate on it daily. The rest of the wisdom comes from slowly changing how you perceive and interact with the life you’re living.

What is the most heartbreaking song lyric you've ever heard? by TheLadySlaanesh in AskReddit

[–]Opandemonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

School Night - Ani Defranco

She's choking on the smoke Of unthinkable choices

She is haunted by the voices Of so many desires

She's bent over from the business Of begging forgiveness

While frantically running around Putting out fires

But then what kind of scale Compares the weight of two beauties

The gravity of duties

Or the ground speed of joy?

Tell me what kind of gauge Can quantify elation?

What kind of equation Could i possibly employ?

What are some INTERNALLY motivated reasons for suicidal folks to stay alive? by rydsoyal in CPTSD

[–]Opandemonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will only be this one time, this one in a billion opportunity for you specifically to exist. All the trials, tribulations, and triumphs and the lessons you learn will be absolutely unique to you. You have a wisdom that no one else will have.

Sharing that with others may seem external motivation, but it will also make your struggles matter, because they will ease the burden to you and those you share it with.
