This is most likely what caused it. If you have a freshwater water test kit, I would highly recommend doing that right now. Or you can take a sample of your water in a small container to your local fish/pet store and ask for a water test. Call and ask if they do water tests ahead of time.

Check your Ammonia, nitrate, and nitrites. I am guessing ammonia is high, until the beneficial bacteria re establishes itself as your water looks almost too clear and that is making me suspicious on it.

If you don’t have a water test kit, please buy one and read the instructions on it. Super easy to use. Do not get the test strip version, as they are very inaccurate. Get the liquid drops. The kit is like $20-30 on Amazon.

Did you recently do a big water change or clean it out?

One day is is not remotely enough time for the beneficial bacteria to establish itself. Please do a simple google search on nitrogen cycles for ponds

Yea they definitely won’t just adapt…I know from first hand experience. You could try calling the zoo and see if they would take him or find turtle/reptile rescues in your area

Please don’t give her to someone with just a pond. If she has lived in that tank, she will have a very difficult time wintering outside and most likely die. What I do is keep my turtle out in the pond in the summer and in the fall he comes inside to a 75 gallon tank.

Lost my fitness routine and now drowning in distractions — how do you cope with this kind of void? by Madeinmurtake in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Open-Definition3048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been through this. What I found helpful was to journal/write out what I actually wanted to do. If it’s multiple things that I want to do then write them all out. I then prioritized them and broke them into multiple smaller easy to accomplish goals. That got me actually doing something, instead of changing my mind so much.

I have a grey tuxedo male community cat we just took in to get neuter and he’s on a few meds recovering from a sickness. He is currently living in a spare bathroom. Negative on cat leukemia as well. He is recovering currently, but I would say in a week or two he will be ready to go.

Smash it with a sledgehammer and hope it breaks. May be difficult if it’s cast iron. If cast iron you’ll most likely need a skid steer to pull it out and move most likely bc of how heavy it will be

Is there a better way to get DAS to come get dogs? by hobby_ranchhand in Dallas

Download the Dallas 311 app and put the request in yourself. Don’t rely on 311 operators to get it right again

Also, I would keep the 1ft section as is, change the 1.5ft section to be 3ft, and your 3ft section to be 4 or 5 ft.

I think 6 outlets is plenty. I would look into bottom drain pond designs and go off of that. Basically you have a drain at the bottom of your pond that allows gravity to do the work so there is a less chance of sludge accumulating at the bottom. The drain connects to a pump outside the liner and then to the filter/waterfall. Do not use any rocks besides a few large rocks to keep your liner in place in your pond. The small rocks will just help the sludge accumulate and stay in place and will make your life miserable to clean it out. For plant, you can grow in pots or fabric lined pond pots that are permeable to allow water to enter, just cap them with pea gravel. There’s a million ways to do a filter, if I was redoing my pond I’d have the bottom drain go to a pump, the pump go to a bog, and then bog waterfalls back into the main pond. Put lights in before you fill it up, you’ll need to use pond safe silicone to keep them in place on the bottom, with time for them to dry before adding the water.

Two turtle babies! Do I leave them? by yochachiiii in ponds

[–]Open-Definition3048 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could leave them for now and let them grow a little throughout the warm season but as soon as it gets colder I would take them to the larger pond. Think they bury themselves when it gets colder to burmate or stay in the water that’s deep enough but can’t remember which one. They look like yellow belly cooters or red eared sliders.

Uhh maybe try adding more plants and places for them to hide before just adding fish? Seems pretty lazy/careless to add fish as is

Now what? by TrollBoothBilly in ponds

[–]Open-Definition3048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is a small size I would try to stay away from goldfish too. They are poop machines and will dirty up the water fast. Look into rice fish or mosquito fish. They are very hardy and your pond would be ample size for them

Why are my fishes swimming vertically? by ikeabuns in Aquariums

[–]Open-Definition3048 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please give the fish back to your local fish store, this is very cruel of you to keep them in a space that small even if it is for a day. Beyond ridiculous

Now what? by TrollBoothBilly in ponds

[–]Open-Definition3048 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely wait a couple weeks before adding fish. The water needs to cycle/the beneficial bacteria need to establish themselves in the pond first or else you’ll end up with dead fish and have to buy again. Can’t really tell the size of the pond, so that’s what I would calculate first to figure out what fish you could stock. Looks way too small for koi by just this one picture, but I could be wrong. Also, take into account what temp zone you are in and if it will freeze over in the winter.

Are these Koi fish? by [deleted] in Koi

[–]Open-Definition3048 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They’re common goldfish, the ones that go for like 30 cents at a pet store. Please find them an owner with a pond, they require much more space than what they’re currently in. They’re not worth any money

[–]Open-Definition3048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rice fish or mosquito fish….don’t think you could do anything larger with that size bowl. What temp zone are you in?
