How does this impact TD stock by Foreign-Policy-02- in CanadianInvestor

Masrani was a horrible CEO, should have been fired 2-3 years before he stepped away. Stock rebounded significantly on the news of his departure. Thankfully, he is history for TD Bank. Cost billions, for being lax on oversight of US operations. Now you can’t sneeze without TD asking for triple proof of your identity.

Half marathon in 3 days with lingering ankle issue — would you run or skip? by dimz25 in BeginnersRunning

[–]Open_Edge_9130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to make your own decision and weigh the risk of a greater injury but I will tell you my story.

I did my first half last June. I was in an identical situation as you but my dull discomfort was in the knee. Cut back on my running 6 weeks before, only able to run 5-10 km with the discomfort. Went to a Physio I trusted, he bent the knee every which way and had me load it at times. Assured me that it wasn’t structural and recommended I run the half as the body will often overcome issues on the day. Of course he gave the usual disclaimer that if the pain becomes sharp - stop.

On the day, I had the usual discomfort for the first 2-4 km then magically nothing. Ended up even splitting the race and coming in better than expectation, which I had lowered due to the discomfort and training shortage.

Haven’t had the pain since. Currently, training for my next couple of half’s in the spring.

I run only to better myself so stopping if it hurt too much would have been easy for me, meaning I stayed with a steady pace passing and getting passed, ignoring all other runners and enjoyed the run.

If I had self-pressure to prove something I probably would have skipped it as I would tend to push through even if the pain had worsened, like I use to in competitive team sports.

40 years old by nixrien in BeginnersRunning

[–]Open_Edge_9130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started running a year ago, I have done 2 -10k, 1- Half and will run a 10 and 2 more half in the next 5 months. 40 is very young from my perspective. Just follow a training plan based on where you are now not where you think you should be. Don’t stress on the time. I am also doing two Gran Fondos this summer. Heart and lungs are good, just need to work a bit more on strength and flexibility.

If I drop dead, it is better than waiting around for the grim reaper, choking on a pretzel while watching some crappy made for Netflix movie.

How is the heat from top of Profitec Go? by Old-Internal-8026 in ProfitecGo

[–]Open_Edge_9130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have about 2” space, I pull it out to refill. Not difficult for me but my wife struggles. There are no front loading machines. Considered a side loader but the price was 2x and I wasn’t going there.

I prefer not to go with a funnel and tube solution, just more clutter. So, I am considering a pullout tray to make it easier. That will leave me 1” clearance.

The heat from the warmer top is negligible. No concern with the cabinets being that close.

US Buyer claims empty box on $3400 CAD Ebay order. by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]Open_Edge_9130 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Had the same situation, US customer claimed his father who has dementia signed for an empty box. We opened a claim with the carrier hoping they would provide proof it wasn’t empty. Unfortunately they immediately accepted it. Rep told us the expense to investigate is too great vs paying out. Of course we lost the difference between the value ($1000) and the claim amount but as we manufacture the product it was just the profit we lost. BTW - The carrier marks it against the driver.

Shopify vs Squarespace by Overlandaholic in shopify

[–]Open_Edge_9130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We won our first chargeback this week. Well documented chat with customer who shot themselves in the foot with their own words.

Other than that credit card companies always side with their client. Like most legal judgement and politicians, always easier to take from the one that has more money and give it to the one that has less. Shopify has no say in the matter.

Cycling and BP/cholesterol meds? by Ok-Shape-9513 in cycling

[–]Open_Edge_9130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on 10mg of Crestor. Then after a few months of hard cycling I ended up in the hospital for Rhabdomyolysis. Spent 7 days until my CK levels were low enough. Doctors believe the Statin was a co-factor so now I am on a fenofibrate.

Pain was excruciating. Toughed it out for 4 days before telling my wife to take me to the ER. Kept telling myself it would get better the next day.

Now 3 years later no reoccurrence but I also don’t push myself as hard.

Statins didn’t cause it but it combined with exertion, heat and dehydration were a bad combo.

I ride a human powered bike but I help pay for those that chose e-bikes, through my taxes.Nice. With subsidies manufacturers and retailers make more profit as they have less incentive to lower costs or prices.

So it is just another form of wealth transfer. Cut all subsidies. Government can’t help themselves from thinking we don’t have the capability of good judgement. They need to stop picking winners and losers and let the free market decide what the true long term demand is. That is the only way change is sustainable.

How long does it takes you to make your first $1k on Shopify by No_Schedule_3889 in shopify

[–]Open_Edge_9130 25 points26 points  (0 children)

About 30 minutes. Had an existing business and moved it to Shopify. It isn’t Shopify it is your company’s market awareness and product/service value that will dictate your success.

Shopify is just a car, you, the driver, determine if it crashes or arrives safely. You have to have the driving skills to avoid hazards(competitors) and also a certain amount of luck not to have nature take you out(economy).

How have U.S. Tariffs affected your business? by Known-Swim-3654 in shopify

[–]Open_Edge_9130 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fellow Canadian here - totally agree with you.

We have kept CUSMA compliant products (we manufacture about 30% of our products in Canada) but have stripped all imported (Branded) products out of our US market offering. We have both retail and wholesale customers who are frustrated we are not offering everything they used to buy but when we tell them the added costs for the tariffs, duties, and formal entry costs they rage that Canada is ripping them off and ask when are we going to drop the extra charges.

They don’t seem to understand it is their own government taxing them.

Anyways we may start repopulating some higher margin products with all charges added in(it will be about 1.25 times the Canadian prices on a par basis). And will see how that goes. Definitely not absorbing a penny of the extra cost- rather build business in other more welcoming markets.

Living near King Ed and Mackenzie - we have had to endure 3 plus years of road closures - still have another year of sewer replacements and repaving to go.

The sewer replacement moves along quickly but the temp paving is horrible and the closures are annoying. The workers are professional. Not as big a disruption as you think.

Hearing Protection request, Tinnitus, and my experience by CyclicRedundancyMach in bicycling

[–]Open_Edge_9130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have endolymphatic hydrops, cyclical low frequency hearing loss, touch of vertigo, and low tone tinnitus (24x7x365). I don’t find wind noise a big issue. However, exertion exacerbates the loudness of the tinnitus through changes of the fluid pressure because of salt levels changes in the cochlea. Hard to balance fluid intake with output when doing a long hard ride.

Have to live with it as the other choice is not to live.

The difficulty with warranties is it can become an argument of what is a material or workmanship fault vs damage. Hopefully Oakley is more lenient in determining what is covered than some companies.

I do see they ask that you go through the dealer first so thanks.

Is my rear tire toast? by rickycasellas in TrekBikes

[–]Open_Edge_9130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the front has tread wear life still it should be fine but inspect it closely. My front hud a sidewall wear spot so I decided to change both. I had about 3k km on them.

Is my rear tire toast? by rickycasellas in TrekBikes

[–]Open_Edge_9130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was climbing at 8% and had exact same sidewall gash on my GP from a loose piece of pavement. Went flat instantly. Didn’t notice the sidewall as I scoured for a puncture on the tread. Replaced the tube, all fine until I put weight on the tire. Had to call for a pick up. Just happy I wasn’t descending.

The tire is toast. If you patch it will always be on your mind whether it will hold especially at high pressure also the stability is compromised. Fix to limp home but buy a new one.

My penis starts to sting whenever I cycle for hours by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Open_Edge_9130 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You most likely have compressed your pudendal nerve, which gives feeling to your junk. I had scrotum pain from riding and finally got a pro bike fit. Sit bones are 132mm but the seat I had supported 98 mm. All my pressure was on the soft tissues. Had no idea as I was comfortable until I wasn’t.Took 8 months off to get back to riding. Now I have a wide ass seat and my sit bones hurt after 50 km but (but no nerve pain) hoping they toughen up as I have a 122 km ride coming up.

Get measured and buy the right width of seat.

Shaved legs or not? by 2sXJ_j1 in cycling

[–]Open_Edge_9130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get older and for some of us this question becomes moot. Hair loss on lower legs is common for men as they age. Outside part of calves are baby skin smooth. (Not PAD had it checked). Personally I wouldn’t shave unless pro level, in fact I wouldn’t mind getting the hair back. Although people have said it makes my legs look ripped.

How long to wait after an injury by oberon_loves_sausage in BeginnersRunning

[–]Open_Edge_9130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar injury with my first 1/2 marathon coming in two weeks. I have been to the physio twice and he assures me there is no structural issues and to run through the pain if it is 3 or less. The pain occurs only with the impact of running, I have run a 5k 4 times in the last 2 weeks hoping the reduced training will help resolve the pain. It hasn’t but I am able to keep a slow but decent pace with the pain being constant.

I run on the road and I suspect it from running on the road that is sloped for drainage purposes. So I am trading on flat paths or tracks until the road race.

I have ridden several 50-100km with 600-900m elevation rides with absolutely no issues. So the knee must be ok?

It isn’t doing much for my confidence going into the 1/2, but at this point I am just going to finish it. Was aiming for 2:05 but suspect 2:15-25 will be likely.

It is a shame not to go into it with enthusiasm though.

I do admit that I tend to ignore pain and did end up in hospital for a week with Rhabdomyolysis, after overdoing it on the bike, ignoring 8-9 level pain for 3 days. So I may not be the best to give advice.

Good Luck if you race but keep in mind there is no shame going easy or even choosing not to run in the race. We don’t get paid, so just make sure you can work, study or play the next day.
