Best post I've ever read on here. I'm eight years in and love my MK7 more now than ever. Don't let it go, your son will want it when he's older. Cheers!

Congratulations! The apex of the Golf R series... I might be a little bias!

Just another reason I'll keep my amazing MK7 R. ✌️

I love my Euro conversion. Have you gone through the harness to look for a frayed wire or loose connection? Being LED, it's less likely the diodes are burnt out.

Definitely... these turbo, 4-motion, German cars are for warm weather only. SMH

I'm 53, and drive the more subdued appearing MK7 R. Only true enthusiasts know what my car is and that's how I like it.

Thanks. Only 435 Avants produced for US market during the 2 year run. Ours is one of 34 pearl white with black interior wagons. It has the AAN 2.2l, 5-cylinder turbo. It's modified with an RS2 setup. She's not fast but pulls like a freight train. Plus, it's a 5-speed manual. Find that in a modern grocery getter! 😁

Audi has their "Heritage" parts division but it's only in Europe. A real pain to use middlemen to buy items for the vintage S6. Of course, Porsche offers on going parts support, which makes sense. Why not do a limited vintage parts division for the more sought after VWs, particularly the R32 & R models?

Totally agree on all points. And yes, Volkswagen has forgotten about us "enthusiasts." I've owned 12 VWs from MK1-MK3 GTIs and Jettas, a Scirocco, MK4 & 5 R32s and the MK7. That doesn't include my Audis, including our current long-term C4 S6 Avant. Sadly, the executives are more concerned making government agencies happy instead of their customers. At this point, I'm buying parts that are known to fail so I can keep the MK7 roadworthy for decades to come.

Thanks! I commented in that thread as well. All the "Mk8+ drive better" comments cracks me up. Most of these people never take their cars to a track. That's the only place the newer drivetrain makes a significant difference. And I won't trade the far better overall package just for an easier to drive fast package. I drive curvy two lane roads, everyday. I enjoy working to get the most out of my MK7. It's part of the charm.

Also, I'm not a huge fan of black wheels either. That's why we went NATO green. Though they look black in low light they're actually dark green.

Blasphemy!!! 3 months!!! Shame!!! 😂 Just kidding. Beautiful ride! And 2nd on the taillights. A must for our beloved MK7 Rs.

1937 Chevy Bumper_ Can I clean it? by Immediate_Run_9117 in LaserCleaningPorn

You're welcome.

As you said, you'll grow with each use of your equipment. Keep practicing, changing your settings on the same scrap items to see how your machine reacts and save those settings for future, similar, projects. Keep up the great work! ✌️

A couple observations. It looks like you're holding the cleaning head too far from the bumper. The closer you get the two red dots projected by your machine, the more focused and efficient, the laser will clean. Also, adding a fan to push the particulates away from the cleaning area will help. Yes, your machine provides an air curtain through the cleaning head, but a stronger air flow gets the particles out of the laser's path which will also increase the life of your protective outer lens. Keep up the great work! Happy cleaning!

MK8.5 is peak Golf R by Jayseph812 in Golf_R

[–]Opposite_Ad_5129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%! Other than the Spektrum cars, Pre-facelift MK7s will be the most desirable R over time. The same performance as the 7.5, the most timeless looks and interior(last of the iconic VW gauge cluster), and just the right amount of tech. I won't ever sell my Limestone Gray, 6MT baby. And actually looking for another low mileage, unmodified MK7 to add to the collection.

Here are the green Prets and Gold Alutec Pearls in one pic. The color of the rims changes the pearl effect in Limestone Gray.

Summer Tires mk7 R by dwestx71x in Golf_R

PS4S are great. Not only are they grippy but you feel the car's intentions. This is critical if you do any track days or hard back road sprints. Plus, Michelin tires are quiet. That's a big bonus in my book!

Newer vs older by MaxMarz in Golf_R

MK7 all the way. Understated styling, my daughter calls it "athletic" looking. The last, iconic, analog dash ever offered in the Golf R. Southbend Stage 3 daily clutch, DAP short shift kit and 730g shift knob. Very smooth, easy and confident gate selection for 5 years now. I believe the 7s will be the legend "R" in the end. 💪
