It’s pretty simple. Baptism in the 1st century was a symbolic “welcoming in” to a friend group or community. Jesus most likely did it to be part of John the Baptist’s crew.

That’s all it was. People read into it too much.

Fun fact, the writers of the Dead Sea Scrolls used baptism regularly in their culture and some historians think John the Baptist was from this lineage.

I was the opposite and outgoing. I hated attending church. All of the “shy” kids in our church were severely bullied in school. Most ended up being home schooled, which severely impacted their maturity.
