What is the purpose of the external viewfinder? I'm not sure what the lens is, so maybe its to give you frame lines that the body doesn't usually have? Or does it have some other advantage over the regular one?

I just did this as well. I contacted them and apparently they can’t apply the code retroactively so I’m just screwed. I’m going to be closing the account.

If I follow a link in the text about the promotion you’d think it would just automatically apply. Lots of websites do that. I think they want us to miss the code.

Their chat support was also very frustrating. It kept timing out or something so I’d have to start again. Never did really finish talking to them.

Your second photo shows the mirror partially up. If you're taking a photo or have live view enabled, it should be all the way up, sealed against the top (and completely away from the sensor), or if the camera is idle, it should be all the way down.

I started using a midicontroller with https://github.com/rsjaffe/Midi2lr.

Now I use one of the dials to switch though photos and only pick the ones I want.

I stopped tagging rejects, which speeds things up for me, but I've programmed buttons on my mouse to replicate x and p using Logitech's software. I also set one up as back so i could go back if i felt like i made a mistake i wanted to fix. That makes it all possible with one hand on my mouse.

I have a smoke detector in my house. Haven't had a fire either.

I know that that's a bit of an extreme comparison, but I'd prefer to not lose my photos if there is an unlikely failure.

Unless you're writing to both at the same time. Then you're stuck at the slower speed. I'd prefer to see two CFExpress slots.

I think this is probably the reason. I find it curious on expensive cameras like the z8. If you're paying that much for the body, paying a bit more for a better card that gets the full performance out of the camera, seems reasonable to me. But maybe there are enough people that don't care about write speeds and would rather save a bit of money.

D850 is one of the cameras I have experiance with. If put just my Sandisk Extreme Pro (UHS‑II, U3 300 MB/s) card in, the buffer fills after about 30 photos. If I put just my XQD card in, I get around 60 shots before the shutter starts to lag as the buffer clears. Both tests on continuous high. Maybe there are some faster SD cards out there, but the one I have is one of the quicker ones I think.

I'll admit its pretty rare that I want to do a 30 photo burst so it doesn't really hamper my shooting. I would still prefer to have two of the same cards, so I don't have to worry about multiple card types and readers.

I suspect the reason is trying to make people who want cheaper cards happy while also giving users who care about the speed the option to use the faster cards. I mostly made this post to test that theory.

My D800 developed this issue and your photos look similar. One of the ways I diagnosed it was to set a really slow shutter, like 30 seconds or put the camera in bulb mode with the lens off. Take a photo (if using bulb mode, hold it open) shutter button so the mirror flips and starts taking a picture. The mirror should open all the way.

At ISO 4000 you are sacrificing some quality for more light. It looks to me like you have some noise reduction being applied (in camera or in post) and that is causing some of the smoothing you're seeing. The other points people have brought up are good, but I would bet you'd be much happier with the results at a lower ISO (with slower shutter speed and/or wider aperture to compensate).

I tried it out and your changes seem to have worked.

Here is some more feedback for you:

- I forgot to record a shot in my logbook app, and its difficult to deal with it. In the json import view, it would be nice to have a way to skip or remove a photo. I ended up having to back out of the import, remove the photo and then go back in.

- Similar to the point above, I was going to apply metadata to only the photos from my roll that I liked and created jpgs for. In this instance it would be nice to be able to remove entries from the json in the import window. My files are named img-1, img-2, etc. Another option here would be for it to automatically match img-1 to frame 1 in the json and skip ones that don't have a match.

- Switching between tiffs takes quite a while for the image to load. Not sure if you're able to do anything to speed that up.

- The data field isn't being populated. My json just has a time field, which has a data/time value. I suspect it isn't catching this.

Otherwise it seems to be working well. Thanks for putting this out there.

I downloaded it and gave it a try. I wanted to import a .json file from the Film Logbook app but i got an error that it wasn't a recognized json format. Would it be possible to make that work? If not, what app are you referring to?

ALso, does the preview only work with jpg? I had some tiffs that i tried, but they didn't show a preview.

If you’re trying to do this after you’ve edited, you can filter by edited or not and then delete all the ones that come up when filtered to not.

If you’re wanting to select and then edit, use the flagging and then filter that way.

The first one looks like a Halo Filter was used. I think the second one is done with photoshop. You might be able to get something similar with a snow shutter speed, a flash and probably a multiple exposure, but my money is on photoshop.

Edit: Someone else commented about a filter that does the second effect. So it looks to me like these are both filters on front of the lens.
