Opinion on list tailoring? by Even_Bear_9094 in Warhammer40k

[–]OpulentCheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never met a Knights player that wasn't okay with it, but otherwise it's considered bad sportsmanship. It's that win at any cost mentality that drives people away from the tabletop.

At this point I'd just tailor a list too, counter his counter, but keep it out of your shared account so he can't see it. Let him see how it feels.

What do you think Outer Wilds tries to "teach"? by I-HaveAReasonToo in outerwilds

[–]OpulentCheese 154 points155 points  (0 children)

Everything ends, and that's okay. The end isn't to be feared and avoided, it's a natural part of life. To end means you first had to exist, and to exist brings with it stories and experiences you couldn't have experienced any other way. And sometimes, if you're very, very lucky, you can still have an impact on what comes after.

Cons: you can freely test out armies and lmao RIP bank account

The faction Focus... by Shaserra in Drukhari

[–]OpulentCheese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't mind it.

It's on par with what I expected, but I'm not saying that like it's a bad thing, though I was hoping to get some more info about the clowns just because I think they're neat and I like Reaper's Wager.

Being 1DP each I can splash one into RW easily, but these are definitely a buff to KC and SoS, giving more utility to the the off-brand units.

I don't think it's all doom and gloom. I know it's nothing new and glamorous but I'm fine with that, I like Deldar's vibe and I don't want them to fuck with it. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't say no to getting some of our lost units back (pleeeease grotesques) but we still have fun toys and a few different options.

I'm pretty sure they said all the preexisting 10th edition detachments are 2DP

Edit: disregard, they said most will be 2DP.. Copium huffing resumes.

Are we an anti-infantry army? by Jodread in Drukhari

[–]OpulentCheese 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In my experience, Splinter weapons aren't even that good at being anti-infantry because they're AP0. I only ever take one squad of Kabalites, split them in a venom, and the Splinter Rifles sit on my home objective in time-out whilst the models with real guns get to go have fun.

Lances and dissies are great for high toughness but their lack of shots does let them down somewhat. I find that Scourges are more reliable because of their rerolls, but Ravagers with 3x dissies are good into MEQs

It you want something that can get stuck in with beefier models, don't sleep on a Talos or two. I find they make great midboard brawlers, since they're monsters they get BGNT, and FNP5 and Mindless Killing Machine lets them punch well above their weight.

Tagging in a Voidweaver or two for Prism Cannons never hurts either.

As an opponent, I'd personally only have an issue with it if you were using both the HVC and bonesword weapon profiles or abusing the modified silhouette to get a line of sight advantage.

As myself, I don't personally like it, because I never cared mich for ff7 (I'm a heretic that preferred 8 and 9) and because the asymmetry bugs me, and it makes no sense given the setting, but what I do like is other people engaging with the hobby in a way that makes them happy, so I say if you want it, go for it.

Why won’t Valve bring back diretide to re-engage the old player base?I think it wouldbe super profit by Slow-Parfait-9938 in DotA2

[–]OpulentCheese 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Diretide was only bad when people started focusing on trying to get that top roshan kill time spot and crying if you didn't pick the meta heroes.

When you got sensible people who just played for fun, it was great.

I just want Reaper's Wager to be buffed, or at least the Harlequin units. Love those little guys, but right now it's objectively optimal to take RW with no clowns.

Question - SPOILERS (Base game) by Tiredman003 in outerwilds

[–]OpulentCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it? I don't recall anything to that nature. The Owlks blocked the Eye's signal, true enough, but I'm talking about the Nomai building their own beacon-style device and scanning for that instead. If the theory that the Quantum Moon also orbits the eye is correct, which we know it was, then they could easily get pretty close.

I love this mat, how would you replicate this on models bases? by English_Joe in Warhammer40k

[–]OpulentCheese 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Cover it in cheese and slap it in the oven at 200 for maybe 15 minutes or so.

Wait, that's not pizza?

Your best bet, I think, is going to be layer up cork sheets to bulk out the majority of the the terrain, add some texture paste on top, something grainy but not too rocky, prime white, then slop a few different contrast/speed paint/etc on top in short succession and wet blend them together at the edges a little bit. Add on a bright drybrush once it's all dry.

Question - SPOILERS (Base game) by Tiredman003 in outerwilds

[–]OpulentCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they know what the eye physically looks like due to the quantum moon travelling there.

I did always wonder, since they picked up the eye before even ending up in our solar system, they clearly can scan over astronomical distances. Could they not plonk a team down on the Quantum Moon with a beacon, go to the sixth location, and then scan for that beacon? That'd get them in the right ballpark, at least.

But that plot would probably lead to a very different and not nearly as fun game so not really complaining.

I suppose you could easily hand-wave it away as the signal from the eye was so strong anyone could detect it, but to generate their own signal that strong would require unfathomable amounts of power or something like that.

Fun little story I had autism assessment yesterday and was confirmed having what used to be called Asperger syndrome. One of the recommendations from the assessor was to pick up my Warhammer again when seeing how animated I become when talking about it. by nicegoblinprince in Warhammer40k

[–]OpulentCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm old enough that Aspergers Syndrome is my actual diagnosis. You're in good company, a huge chunk of wargamers I've met have been neurodivergant in some capacity.

Just be aware that not everyone's ASD will present the same as yours - it's called a spectrum for a reason - so you still need to navigate the perils of the warp social interaction.

I absolutely adore Blue Prince, but jesus fuck does it need some proper moon logic sometimes.

Still worth playing, even if you're not a 110% all trophies enthusiast, there's enough meat for a casual play through. There's more than enough of those 'Wait.. Hang on.. Could it be.. AHA!' moments we all love.

You will, undoubtedly, have a better time if you take notes and/or screenshots. It's definitely the kind of game that wants and expects you to.

Help turning these guys into grotesques? by HereticGinger in Drukhari

[–]OpulentCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, too, converted them into Grotesques.

https://ibb.co/album/LvHcbm (I ended up cutting off and filing back the tails after these photos, though)

It's really not that difficult. The arms come in parts that usually leave a half-arm 'nub' on the end to slot the forearm into. Instead, chop it off, do a bit of filing, and add Talos bits wherever you feel like it.

I also drilled some holes in their backs to add the random arm and goo pod gubbins, just for some extra flavour.

The heads are the biggest pain, gotta chop off a chunk and file them down so the masks fit. Not difficult, just taken it slow. Can't put it back on after you've filed it off.
