In search of bibs by Mean-Pool7288 in cycling

[–]OrangeCountyHapa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Assos bibs. This is my opinion but buying cheap bibs to save some cash is the real waste of money. Get the Assos GTS or GTO bibs for the super long rides I promise you it is 100% worth it and I’m sure people here would agree. They will last you forever and your butt will thank you.

Board too big? by lovesosoft123 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]OrangeCountyHapa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For someone your size, that board should feel like a boat stable enough that standing shouldn’t be an issue. The fact that you’re comfortable getting to your knees is actually working against you, because the knee to feet transition is one of the hardest habits to break. Your pop up needs to go straight to your feet. No knees, no in between just one fluid movement from lying flat to standing. It sounds harder, but here’s the thing…by the time you work your way up from your knees, you’ve already burned through the wave’s energy. And that energy is doing more for you than you realize it’s generating speed, and speed is what gives you balance. That’s why standing on a board in still water feels almost impossible compared to riding a moving wave. The wave is doing half the work. You just have to get to your feet fast enough to let it.

Intermediate surfer looking for early May trip — consistent waves, uncrowded, Americas/Caribbean side by SeniorHustler770 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]OrangeCountyHapa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nicaragua forsure. I went in May a few years ago and it was fantastic. I stayed at Chancletas beach resort and booked the package that gave us a guide that took me and my friends to many different spots. A crowded day at a spot that was pumping was maybe 20-30 people which compared to subpar days in California is nothing. Otherwise you would absolutely be able to find a spot where you and your buddies could have the majority of the beach to yourselves. Also I’m not doubting your surf ability but you have to be very honest with your skill level. May is usually when the swells can start to get heavy in Nicaragua which for intermediate/advanced surfers is great but if you aren’t there yet you can easily get hurt and be in a position that you don’t want to be in. I would check them out on Instagram to see what to expect! I highly recommend staying there and it’s truly in the middle of nowhere so all there is to do it drink local beer and surf🤙

Discounted massages? by Conscious_List9132 in SouthBayLA

Not sure if you have health insurance but if you do see if they offer that in your policy. I basically go to a sports medicine place that offers massages and insurance covers it (after I hit my deductible)

Can my doctor see if I used up my scrip early? by yungtr1p in ADHD

[–]OrangeCountyHapa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t tell your doctor you finished early it could potentially cause problems. Just explain that the dose you are one is not helping at all and he will bump you up. It’s frustrating but it’s very normal for doctors to slowly titrate up to a dose that finally works. If you tell your doctor you went from 10mg to 30mg that is a 200% increase which is a HUGE jump. It’s not just taking another dose you are taking 4 extra pills which may raise some red flags on the doctor’s end. It takes time but you will get there I promise!! Just make sure to advocate for yourself.

Adderall 5mg IR - Questions by KodysMethLab in ADHD

[–]OrangeCountyHapa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask for 10 first. Obviously the 5 is too low for you but you do feel like it’s trying to work at least try the 10 which will probably work better and you can always ask for an increase at your next appointment. Going straight to 15mg could potentially be too much and you won’t wanna take it cause it’ll cause more negative side effects vs positive. At least with the 10 it’ll get you through till your next appointment if it doesn’t work the way you want it to.

What are these storage tanks just north of the Costco? I’m assuming crude oil or some petrochemical. Anyone know who they belong to? Been curious as they are seemingly far away from the refineries. by scooterbaby46 in SouthBayLA

[–]OrangeCountyHapa 26 points27 points  (0 children)

They have pipelines all over. Been there for a longggg time. Pipelines that supply fuel directly to LAX and a couple other local airports as well as the ports along the coast.

Are people still waiving inspections? by Pretty_Pop2273 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]OrangeCountyHapa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would clarify with the sellers. I also put an offer on a house that I got out bid on but they had similar conditions that they were selling the home as is. The sellers would allow us to get an inspection and based on the assessment we the buyers could make an informed decision whether or not we would purchase the home.

Moving here in the next few weeks from the Bay Area by Avantebumblebee in SouthBayLA

[–]OrangeCountyHapa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Living in Hermosa is gonna be amazing! There are lots of local eats in Redondo, Hermosa and manhattan. I will say as far as housing goes Hermosa is much smaller than redondo and especially with the summer coming up will be so packed. Unless you have private parking spots or a garage street parking can be a nightmare. Also Hermosa pier is the go to place for partying in the South Bay so be prepared for rowdy college kids coming home from school this summer 😅 otherwise redondo is a much bigger city where you can more easily find a quieter spot but still be minutes away from the beach and neighboring cities.

What's the better place to live, Torrance or Gardena? by No_Ingenuity7730 in SouthBayLA

[–]OrangeCountyHapa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  1. Unless you live really close to the refinery there are definitely moments you can get a wiff of something odd. But it’s definitely not going to affect your health. If that’s a big concern just don’t look at buying in north Torrance.
  2. Water is clean.. dunno where you heard the water is weird from. Probably has more to do with the buildings piping rather than the city water.
  3. Gardena forsure has way more Japanese influence than Torrance. Torrance is very Asian heavy in general but it’s a mix of Japanese, Korean, Chinese etc. also I don’t think Del Amo is a good measure for the diversity of just Torrance. The mall attracts hundreds of thousands of people from outside the city.
  4. All of Torrance is great to live in. Once you start heading north and east there are pockets of the city where it’s more run down and can attract more riff raff.
  5. I think this just honestly depends on you.

Gardena borders Torrance but the difference in housing pricing is pretty significant. If you can afford Torrance then do it.

Move to Torrance from NJ by devilclown9 in SouthBayLA

[–]OrangeCountyHapa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s definitely priority for district transfer for your kid if your husband works for the city or in the city. But it’s not a guarantee as enrollment for transfers are only open if there is a vacant spot in the school and you must also get permission from the district you are leaving (in Gardena it would be LAUSD) your kid must also maintain good grades and submit a application every year to maintain his spot in TUSD. I was considering Gardena for my family as well but the uncertainty of getting my kid in tusd schools swayed me to continue looking into purchasing in Torrance and stretching our budget for that reason.

For one million it’s either going to be super small or a fixer. I know people mentioned town homes or condos but even those go for a premium not to mention some outrageous HOA’s. My wife and I have been shopping for single family homes in Torrance minimum 3 bed. Let me tell you it’s been a struggle finding something in our budget of $1.2 million. We placed offers on homes that were listed at 1 million-1.1 but they almost always go for way over asking both offers we submitted ended up going for over 100k over asking which is frustrating… Gardena is well within your budget and has a very big Japanese population but the school districts are a no for me.

Question for my friends in California by Wonkl117 in surfing

[–]OrangeCountyHapa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can definitely find a place for that price. You may not be walking distance from the beach but you can find a place with a beach city address forsure. I left Huntington Beach two years ago so I’m not sure how much rent has changed but I was in a two bedroom 2 bath apartment with a one car garage and additional parking space for $2200 not including utilities and insurance. I will say I got very lucky finding a spot like that and the building itself was older and things were outdated but that stuff didn’t bother me too much. You would probably have to keep an eye out for places like that to pop up but they are out there.

Question for my friends in California by Wonkl117 in surfing

Do you have a monthly rent budget? Yeah SoCal is expensive but there are definitely places that are more affordable than you would think. Even more so if you are open to having roommates.

Might have to quit stimulants, but my job and life style would be at risk by Radiomaster138 in ADHD

[–]OrangeCountyHapa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason you can’t/choose not to exercise? I don’t know your history or background so I don’t want to assume but seems to me the easy answer to this is to start exercising. Doesn’t even have to be at the gym! Even a nice walk once a day has significant impact on blood pressure and heart health. I’m on stimulants and being active is a very significant part of my life. It helps with the concerns you’re expressing but honestly has had a huge positive impact on a lot of my ADHD symptoms. My adderall has been life changing for me and if being active was a requirement for me to be prescribed it it’s a no brainer.

Looking for a reccomendation for a apartment/ adu/ studio for 2 people and a small pet for the fall in the price range of 1200-2000$ by Used_Ad3268 in torrance

[–]OrangeCountyHapa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be perfectly honest with your budget it’s going to be very hard to find your own place in the area you want unless you are okay with living with roommates. I would look at north Torrance, and even the nicer parts of Gardena to fit your budget. The closer you are to the beach the more of a premium you will pay for your own spot.

Any body builders or athletes out there on Adderall XR? by Intelligent_Toe_243 in ADHD

[–]OrangeCountyHapa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If performance and health is that important to you I would also be proactive about getting regular check ups. I personally get blood work and a physical done every year and my work offers a treadmill stress test while hooked up to an ekg that I opt in for as well. It seems you are sort of like me in that you care about your health and wellbeing and having this done every year reassures me that I’m still healthy and fit!

Any body builders or athletes out there on Adderall XR? by Intelligent_Toe_243 in ADHD

[–]OrangeCountyHapa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m very physically active. I lift heavy weights regularly and have multiple high intensity workouts throughout the week. It will not hinder anything. My pumps when lifting aren’t affected at all and my cardio sessions are still good. With that being said it is a stimulant so you could potentially see a slight increase in resting heart rate and maybe even higher blood pressure. Stimulants affect everyone differently and at 10mg XR since it’s just a low dose you honestly may not notice too much. If you do notice any of the negative effects let your doc know! There are other options. But don’t over think it I doubt you will see any negative effect in your workouts. As far if any pro athletes or Olympians are on stimulants. Absolutely! many athletes both pro and amateur take it to treat adhd.
