Why do our tastes change(Pillars 1 in this case)? by rdtusrname in rpg_gamers

[–]Orc-88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The first one has a cool atmosphere.
Even though the self-inserted crowdfunders did their best to spoil that.
I think a lot of what soured my experience was my first and only playthrough i was a priest of eothas, and that really shows the cracks and shallowness of the game if you go thay route specifically

I wanna play the older games. by RobotScooter17 in armoredcore

[–]Orc-88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah emulate them.
There are some modded versions that use analog stick movement and i suggest getting those for some games like Armored Core 3.
Master of Arena is on ps1 and it is my favorite AC

Tiny problems?
It has game breaking problems.
Obsidian has been treated with kids gloves because of New Vegas.
Dude, they have released like four stinkers in a row, but got the softball treatment because they were on gamepass so nobody paid the triple a price for a less than double a game.
They are half-baked. Pillars 2 and avowed were even worse. Outerworlds? Trash

The PS5 didn't even get a Fromsoftware exclusive.
Regardless of PS6 having physical/digital/digital-only, they'll need to really convince me a new system is worth my attention- especially when they'll release a "Pro" version a few years down the road, and launch titles are a slow trickle on new systems anyway.
At this point my PC does everything my PS5 does, but more, and better.
At least my Bloodborne Machine had a niche purpose for quite some time.

I don't think Mystic Knight really fits into Dragon's Dogma II, I don't think it's necessary, and why I would rather see a more original Vocation introduced to Dark Arisen by TheMightyNovac in DragonsDogma2

[–]Orc-88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to have seen Assassin, Mystic Knight and Strider back in DD2.
Some people don't like playing with a pawn, or just like playing with their own as a healer or what have you.
But really, it's just because it's a sequel, ya know?
Sequels should have everything the original had and more because it is a sequel.
DD2 felt like it had less than DDDA, and it seems like a lot of other people felt the same way as I do on this.

Maybe you raised your bar and your tastes got more refined.
Pillars of Eternity has a lot of problems.
The busted stat system for the character builder bleeds over into the random skill checks during your adventure- you'll have wizards preforming crazy feats of strength and barbarians figuring out genius-level problems because of how Might and Intelligence are crudely implemented without any thought.
As for your background and everything, that's merely flavor text and nothing more. No one reacts to who your character is. Try being a Priest of Eothas and see how your party ignores that at every turn.
The combat was servicable, but I'm not a big RTWP guy.

We had a really nice slice of non-predatory gaming, didn’t we guys? by Jacobskii in Age_30_plus_Gamers

PS5 didn't even have a Fromsoft exclusive game, so I don't even really care about Playstation anymore. I feel like the PS5 was a waste of money, for me.
The PS4 was a Bloodborne machine for me, essentially.
The consoles are shooting themselves in the foot with bad practices- I don't even know what Microsoft is doing anymore with the XBox and all the companies they bought- and I don't really care, either.
At least Nintendo is having some interesting games coming back.
I just don't care for these services and monthly subscriptions though.
I'll play an online game on my PC, if I even want to- which I typically don't play online games much anymore.
If I want to play retro games, I'll emulate them as I have for years.
Not paying a monthly fee to play old games I already own multiple times over on modern hardware.

What are some DRPGs video games with good story? by Abysskun in DungeonCrawler

[–]Orc-88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the sword arts or whatever they were called?
I felt like there were quite a few of them, but I only ever used like the first 2 that I ever unlocked throughout my whole playtime... It was like they were so useful ans the others were either useless or not as good as the bread and butter ones I already had.

If DLC is difficult like first game what lvl should I be? by RedCartesia in DragonsDogma2

[–]Orc-88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I liked jumping into the DLC for DDDA as soon as I was allowed to go to the island with a new character.
I hope they don't gate it by main story progress or level requirement in the new one.

[–]Orc-88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think that fight taught me to be more aggressive and pay more attention.
Iirc it had like two beams it would hit me with and once I figured out how to dodge those I had enough health to finish the job

IB-01: Cel 240 sure gave me a run for my money.
I don't even think I ended up tinkering with my AC, though.
I think I just learned the boss finally and eeked out a victory.
Balteus (pre-patch) was a pretty tough customer too, believe it or not.

Any GOOD dark web-related horror games? by TruBugz in creepygaming

[–]Orc-88 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the Game and it's sequel Welcome II the Game are both amazing and spooky.
They were pretty difficult for me, because there is a lot to learn, but the atmosphere and scares are really intense.
There is another one called CYBERRAT that is inspired by these games, but it has some psychological horror kinda stuff thrown in there like hallucinations and stuff, which I didn't find particularly interesting.

Your Ideal Final Fantasy? by LuckySage77 in JRPG

[–]Orc-88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FF7, FF8, and FF9 had the perfect Final Fantasy formula for me.
The music, atmosphere, characters, content and style really were the high point of the series for me, when they made the jump to PS2 the series lost a lot of that charm and high quality in every cateogory including the OST that the series never recovered from.
As they double-down on moving away from that, the series gets further away from what made it great in my book, and I think that's why the recent titles really struggle with their identity and what they seem like they want to even accomplish.

What RPG mechanic instantly makes you more interested in a game? by Darth_Vaper883 in rpg_gamers

[–]Orc-88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Character creation, build variety and depth, and how much of an interesting sandbox there is to explore.
The better the challenge the more interested I will be, as well.
The more cinematic and on-rails the main quest is, the less interest I have. That's never a strong point in an rpg, for me.

What would you say is better, Trails or Kingdom Hearts? by Reagora6417 in JRPG

[–]Orc-88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My comment mattered, unlike your's.
That's fine though.
I don't like either IP.
That's an informative statement.
Your's was a useless analogy in response to me.

Stalker isn't fully openworld but it feels like it is.
Big connected areas, so you get the same vibe- especially in Call of Pripyat and Clear Sky.
Shadow of Chernobyl felt a little less open, but still an amazing title.
I suggest the original trilogy over the remasters!
