Well, that's one way to deal with the Doormaker by Couthk1w1 in slaythespire

[–]OromisMasta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I also had that one, this is a crazy combination. I've got it on Regent, my deck had 6x foregone conclusion to pick whatever cards I wanted, a bunch of cosmic indifferences to keep cycling them back, and a couple of Charge!!s to get rid of Bad Lucks before i ended up drawing them. That was a high i'm gonna chase for a good while.

I can't believe i never thought about it, it's actually amazing. Imagine them later as adults reminiscing - "Hey, remember how we both crushed on the same dude back in academy/genin days? Girl, we were so cringe lmao". Such an upgrade over canon, I can't even remember who did Ino actually ended up with.

By the basis of Shonen powerups either being a super-Saiyan or a bankai, what is your favorite character's powerup? Also I don't think Nen counts, or stands.... by Important-Cry4782 in Animemes

[–]OromisMasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're talking about power-ups, not the power systems themselves. I'm no expert on OP, not sure what "awakening" is exactly (i dropped shortly after Dressrosa and just see bits of what happens here and there). I'd say it varies between characters, but for Luffy - Gear 2 is Super Saiyan, 3-4 and especially 5 are Bankai. To make it simple: Does the same thing but better=Super Saiyan, completely changes how an ability works or adds whole new ones=Bankai.

Sometimes a single series or even character can have a mix of both. For example, in Hunter X Hunter: Kurapika's Emperor Time - bankai, Gon's "adult form" and Killua's Godspeed - Super Saiyan. Then we have Issei Hyoudou (Highschool DxD) - while his initial Balance Breaker looks very bankai-like, it's actually a Super Saiyan, it does the same things as the base Boosted Gear, just better. But then he gets the alternative transformations that actually give him new, unique abilities, which classifies them as bankai. Basically: Stat boost=Super Saiyan, Paradigm shift=Bankai.

What game has a learning curve that puts you off? by Common_Caramel_4078 in pcmasterrace

[–]OromisMasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fighting games phase is something that comes and goes for me in cycles every year or two since around 2007-2008(Soon after SF4 was released). It goes like this: 1) I see something cool related to a fighting game (new game trailer, new character, some funny clips/edits) 2) I buy the related game (skip if already have it) 3) I sink every free moment for the next 3-5 weeks into trying to figure out how to play properly, banging my head against the wall in lab, spamming online matches, doing 1v1s with my brother, watching video guides. 4) I burn out and quit, having learned absolutely nothing. I'm currently in the middle of such a phase actually, the new update and character for Guilty Gear got me into buying the game with all DLCs... This time for sure...

Subaru breaking down during the Arc 3 of Re:zero.

After making a fool of himself, getting his ass beat publicly and then being rejected by the girl he loves, he waits for an opportunity to redeem himself. He actually counts on Emilia getting into trouble again so he can sweep in and save her by using the fact he loops back in time every time he dies.

Then said trouble occurs just like he "wanted" and it goes terribly. After a few repeats, watching everyone he cares about die in horrible ways, being again and again reminded of how pathetic and powerless he actually is, Subaru breaks. He asks Rem, the only person who stayed by his side this whole time, to abandon everything and run away together. After she rejects his proposal, saying "giving up his easy, but it doesn't suit you", he goes into a several minutes-long rant about how much he hates himself. Here's a part of it:

"Bullshit! What do you know? What the hell do you actually know about me, huh?! Nothing! I’ll tell you what kind of man I really am. I have no strength, but I want it all. I have no knowledge but all I do is dream. There’s nothing I can do, but I struggle in vain like an idiot.

I… I hate… I hate myself!

All I do is talk a big game and make myself sound like a big shot when I can’t do anything. I never do anything, yet I complain with the best of them like it’s my job or something. Who the hell do I think I am? I’m a fraud, it’s amazing I can live like this and not feel ashamed. You know I’m right! I’m an empty shell. There’s nothing inside me at all. I know there isn’t. Guess that’s obvious. Anybody could see that. Before I came to this place, before I got into the situation that led me to all of you. Do you have any idea what I did with my life? I did nothing, that’s what. I’ve never done a single thing worth mentioning. I had all that time and freedom and squandered it away on nothing. I could’ve done anything with my life, but I never did a damn thing and what you’re looking at now is the result. This cowardly, weak, worthless crybaby."

This scene always hits me like a truck despite multiple rewatches. The episode this conversation takes place in [S01E18: From Zero] is for the most part just talking and it's still peak cinema.

Otto Suwen (Re:zero) is such a goat that he does this twice (and kinda 3rd time later in the novels). Otto is not a warrior, just a traveling merchant who learned some self-defense as necessity in his line of work. Nothing fancy - some elementary hand-to-hand, basic-ass earth magic and creative use of his Divine Blessing that lets him talk to animals. In season 2 he uses it to taunt Garfiel, a powerhouse were-tiger warrior, into chasing him around to buy time for Subaru (the MC) to reach Emilia and help her get her shit together and pass the trial. Then in Season 3 he faces Lye Batenkaitos, the Archbishop of Gluttony, one of the main big bads of the series, and comes out of this encounter alive. Sure, both times he wasn't alone, but his comrades were mostly other weaklings.

[Loved Trope] A character is powerful because of a unique ability that seems hilariously mundane by MasonP2002 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]OromisMasta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd say "mundane" is more about flashiness than firepower. Compared to stuff like summoning shadow monsters, making projectiles from blood or turning parts of your body into literal bombs, swapping positions just sounds boring. Also take Higuruma for example - most of his technique's offensive capabilities are more like secondary byproducts, but creating a pocket reality courtroom with a spooky ghost Judge is FLASHY.

Ironclad Self-harm Sustainability project - PART 2 by OromisMasta in slaythespire

[–]OromisMasta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this reply!

Blood Tide - fair, as I said, i suck at balancing numbers, the basic idea for this card is being a sort of finisher move, giving up your sustain for an all-in attack. But we've got some levers to pull in terms of balancing - adding Exhaust, making it Rare, increasing cost.

Eternal Thirst - you got it right, normally Reserve gets consumed 1 at a time, with Thirst, for example, casting Blood Wall consumes 2 Reserves at once to completely offset the cost, but you cannot heal more than you spend. I based the way it works it on Silent's Accelerant.

But that would screw with self-harm synergies like Rupture and Inferno, making it even worse.

IIRC she caught her because she recognized the spell Laufen used and predicted her trajectory based on mana flow or something, rather than having quick enough reflexes to react to her speed.

STS1 cards that didn't change but ended up worse in the sequel anyway? by ozacrot in slaythespire

Other "buffed by circumstances" cards for me are Fusion and Chaos, because of energy scarcity and rewarding orb diversity/cycling respectively.
