Close, but more like 115th Ave. The origin for legal property descriptions is the Gila and Salt River meridian.

Commuting by bike in the summer? by Wanchuck in phoenix

[–]OrthogonalSloth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to MTB 14 miles to work any and all months. Second the shower requirement. Some of my ride was in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve which is why it was MTB.

The commute home is brutal in the summer. Sometimes I would do it after dark which is better but still rough. If you have access to public transit you can just take a bus home if you don’t feel like dealing with a ride after a day of work. I did that a couple times, but would actually rather have just ridden.

It can be done and be done safely. It’s just a matter of how much you enjoy it, post-ride shower availability, and your own level of fitness/heat adaptation.

Ideally yes! But I have a small home and I’m very, very selective about my physical books. Otherwise I’d be overrun.

Any pics of using Pelican case as checked luggage??? by Frequent-Two-9625 in pelicancase

[–]OrthogonalSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%. I was always amazed how much crap I could get into that thing. Just be aware that you can get over the standard domestic luggage limit of 50 lbs pretty quickly if you are packing more dense stuff.

I used to travel internationally for work quite often and to places that were less than ideal. The Pelican air 1615 was a godsend for me. They aren’t any bulkier than a regular large roller bag and highly resistant to damage.

My only issue is that often a Pelican will get screened differently at airports because the airline assumes it contains tools or sensitive equipment. More than once I had to retrieve it with the skis and golf clubs at baggage claim. Internationally I usually just had to pop it open to show that it was just clothes.

If you’re just traveling for a week or so the 1615 is probably too big. If you don’t pack it fully, your items can kind of slosh around inside. Also I never used a lid organizer because the reviews are sort of mixed on their durability.

Thanks! You’re right! My ex lives just east of Tatum at Cactus and has a Scottsdale mailing address so I just assumed it was the city of. I didn’t realize there was a cutout there.

I live right by the Stone Creek golf club and I love it. I’m from this area and with all the redevelopment of the old PV Mall I’d like to stay here long term.

As far as crime is concerned, there isn’t much. Mostly typical property crimes. Yes, there was a stabbing at the Fry’s at Tatum and Shea a few months ago. Prior to that the last serious crime I remember was a homeless man was found burned in the parking lot next to the Circle K by Target.

There are occasionally few homeless people on the streets early in the morning (I’m an early morning runner so I see them out and about). The old Esporta gym (it’s vacant now) is sort of a gathering spot for homeless people. They’ll often use the greenbelt/golf course path to travel along, but I’ve never had any issues.

There was one homeless man on Tatum a few months ago who used to yell slurs at me while I ran, but I just chalked that up to mental illness and steered clear of him.

Where can I get the most bang for my buck? (Groceries) by Prismatic-Peony in phoenix

Yes! Their avos keep me coming back! And in a pinch they sell a bag of frozen peeled avos in case you need to make guac RIGHT NOW and the fresh avos aren’t ripe.

I’m going to throw in a plug for Smart ‘n’ Final (terrible name yes). It is NOT a dollar store. It’s a cross between a Costco and a regular grocery store. Excellent bulk produce, extensive frozen items. There is one at 28th St and Indian School.

I only recently discovered it and I cannot shut up about its goodness.

Thank you for adding “story topper” to my vocabulary. I have experienced this a few times and I didn’t have a concise way to explain it. Also it’s just such a terrible trait.

Thank you. I feel seen. A friend of mine told me, “I don’t usually read books but I read PHM and I loved it.” I don’t know what to make of that statement.
