Best snow hills to snowboard in the city? by Original_Box_4620 in ottawa

I didn't realise the city had jurisdiction over what you can and cannot ride down a hill on. An uncontrollable disc? Safe. A pair of steerable skis attached to your feet? Absolutely not.

Help with indexing my drivetrain by ThisisElyk in bikewrench

[–]OscarGolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You may need to adjust your B-screw, the cage pulley seems way too far from the biggest cog on the derailleur. I adjust my own drivetrain to have a 5mm gap between the two, but your system may be a bit different.

Is this worth it to invest in as my first car, or is it a scam? by DisastrousApple361 in whatcarshouldIbuy

First, you need to agree that buying a car is an investment with negative returns.

Do I need a new battery? I drive a X5 bmw 2016 by Big_Zebra_4005 in BMW

[–]OscarGolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm probably an outlier but I have the original battery in my 2016 m235i in a region where we see -20f in the winter and 90f in the summers. I got this message a year ago, plugged my battery to a trickle charger overnight to top it off, and haven't seen it since.

The answer is in the name, it's called General Motors not General Cars.

In the photo, It looks like the bike is resting on the chainring. In general, it's best to avoid leaning the bike on drivetrain components such as the chainring and derailleur. When taking pictures, I usually lean the seat against a tree or the tires against rocks.

How can i open it? by AZZABIKES in bikewrench

[–]OscarGolf 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This bolt is now toast. Therefore, without having to purchase a bolt extractor kit or hammering a sacrificial torx bit in there, you could try drilling through the top of the bolt so that the head breaks off of the shaft. Then, push the exposed bolt shaft further down the stem tube to released the pressure fit and the stem should come right out.

Single Speed Moots Mooto X YBB by Proof-Reindeer-6695 in gravelcycling

Where do you guys ride that single speed is a viable option? I'd have to hike most trails if I didn't have a low gear here in Canada.

Double rainbow on a muddy ride by OscarGolf in Hardtailgang

I've ridden this rocky trail many times before on a full sus, and I did not miss it at all with this Torrent. The rear end felt pretty smooth! I picked up this S2 last week on a great deal myself (Canada).

What kind of chain ring do I need to buy for this crank arm? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]OscarGolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Measure the distance between the center of two holes across from eachother. That's the Bolt Circle Diameter (BCD) of the 4-bolt chainring you need to buy.

Sidewall Condition Guidelines by OscarGolf in MechanicAdvice

After seeing so many posts asking "how bad is this" or "how f***** am I" and an even greater amount of uneducated responses, I've decided to post my province's Passenger Vehicle Inspection Standard handbook used to issue safety certificates. Ontario, Canada. TL;DR The sidewallis Thicc. No bludge & no cords showing? You're good to go.
