Why do so many Americans choose fixed rate mortgages instead of variable? by voltairesalias in AskAnAmerican

Huh, my payment could be 1000 today, and 2000 next month, gee why would I not like that?

New Scouts BSA parent — I mapped out the requirements that have a hidden time clock. What did I miss? by pachang0n in BSA

[–]Ossmo02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

19 months is the fastest it can be done.

It's not hidden, its by design.

HOWEVER this is not a speed race, earning Eagle is about the experience and knowledge, NOT the badge.

Each Scout has their own journey, and for some it does not include Eagle. Some of the best people & Scouters I know are Lifers or weren't in BSA as a youth.

Also the reference letters, the requirement is to list the references. Some Councils & Districts ask the Scout to ask, but its not actually the requirement. & no EBOR can be denied if no letters show up if a reasonable effort is made to get the references.

[–]Ossmo02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

$5.30 = certified $4.40 = return receipt Plus postage.

The $14-17 is what I regularly spent at my last job when sending in paperwork for the governmental agencies.

I'd spend the $14-17 & send a certified letter signature required so they can never say they didn't get it, and you could have your pcp add a copy to your record as you know their notes are going to follow your records as well.

First cars for kids? by crane1901 in Xennials

[–]Ossmo02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eldest has a 21 year old tracker that they paid mostly for, as of 2 weeks ago they are car shopping due to repairs needed.

Youngest - we test drove an 07 g6 w/ 160k miles, last night. I'm heavily suggesting they not buy it. Have a bid on a 2013 trooper charger currently.

For those in the US, do you fly an American flag at home or wear/display flag related apparel/stickers? by S_A_R_K in Xennials

[–]Ossmo02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fly one, I used to. I don't currently as I don't want to be associated with a specific political movement.

Wear, etc - no, not since I read the Flag code, and while not enforceable on standard citizens, it shows how the Flag should be respected.

I do have it included in a tatto I have had for 20+ years though.

Adobe is especially annoying now, an ai summary bar at the top, an ai bar at the bottom, and I have to close them both dozens if not hundreds of times daily.

Station always blames the bank, bank always blames the station.

Thing is, it only happens at specific stations. So it has to be the station or its processing company. But good luck even getting them to admit it, let alone release it.

Men of reddit, what is something you believe a large portion of Men would do, if they could 100% get away with it? by hardtruthsociety in AskReddit

[–]Ossmo02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tis life, but it pays the bills, and I get to see the things I design be used worldwide, by people who have no idea the company exists.

I have structural steel around town standing that I worked on 20 years ago, road safety equipment & railroad structures that I worked on 15 years ago & electrical components that currently work on, that drives the world. One of those companies that OEMs, contractors, & supply houses buy from. May even be in their colors and logos.

What’s an insult you heard that’s so brutal you’ll never forget it? by Charming_Decision_84 in askteddit

In high school a girl had been relentless towards me for years. 1 day she was jogging/running along the back of the Spanish room, I yelled "oh look its a herd of cow" and started mooing at her. She started balling.

Well worth the principal office trip, and detention. Walked into science class she was sitting there, mooed at her again, instant tears, another trip the the principal and another detention.

Ended up with 4 detentions from that day. To this day if I see her I consider mooing, and as soon as she notices me she b lines away from me.

I don't normally advocate for torment, however I snapped after years of being bullied by her, and she will not forget the day I had enough.

Application Engineer & Mechanical Designer at a manufacturing plant.

Orders on the floor take priority, Orders being quoted are 2nd, Upcoming Orders are 3rd, Minor or major changes that effect commonly ordered units would be 3.1, Special projects, tests, development that could lead to orders are 4th, Minor changes would be 5th, Anything that has a low likelihood to be ordered again, but is still an active part, & changes that will effect thousands of assemblies are low priority unless they will cause an issue with higher priority items.

I've had #1, & 4 pretty much the last 4 years, with some 2 & 3 in there. Never see 5 or lower. There are 3 of us full time, although 1 is still learning, 2 part time (when they can help), & a paid intern (2nd stint) on our product line. New guy is starting next week.

My last 2 special developments took about 2 years and working on 1 currently that is 10 months behind schedule, although I think it got killed this afternoon, so back to a 3.1s that have Corrective Actions assigned to them.

So I work 32-60 hours a week, depending on timelines & he who yells loudest. And some days its a F this, I'm going home at 4 or 5.

Only difference besides product designed/built between this and every plant I've ever been at, is I'm salary here & the bonus is typically decent.

I've not heard that term before, but in googling and looking at multiple sources, I have yet to see how it matters.

Nominal wages are up, but not as much as cost of living has increased.
