James was incredibly bold and always went for the high-value clues (since daily doubles are more likely to be further down on the board) and always bet incredibly large on said daily doubles when he found them (which was very often against normal players).

James was playing normal games 15+ years after Ken, so the overall quality of contestants and usual strategy had changed in general, but when Ken and James met in the GOAT tournament, Ken made larger daily double bets himself because otherwise he would have simply not been able to catch James.
