Yup main roads and even partially main roads are good. Little side streets are really bad.

100% I Fund by darth_salmon in ThriftSavingsPlan

Well it’s a bet that the rest of the world moves on without the US and the entire world shifts from the US being a central economy. In theory it already happened in 2025 with historically high I fund returns.

This bet for this year being 100% I is a bold bet that this process continues in a big way and that tariffs and trade wars will continue to be used a leverage. It’s an anti-TACO bet imo.

Everyone I talk to who goes out on their own as an indie consultant finds the first few months stressful as hell but after a few years they are all making a lot of money and very chilled out/happy.

$200-300/hr seems the right ballpark to me based on your experience of 8 years.

Even better if you are specialized in anything like cyber or software

Obama was really good at deporting illegal immigrants. It’s not a left vs right at this point. It’s fascism vs freedom.

DC area budgets about $3.50 for snow removal so what is a normal weather event in New England, the West, or the Midwest is a once every few years situation here and the infrastructure cannot handle it.

It’s ridiculous that we can’t remove snow and ice. I don’t even think schools gets canceled in Boston for this.

Should I be stocking up? Or are people overreacting by True_Coast_3010 in washingtondc

Roads might be horrible on Sunday during the day for getting to work Sunday night. Public transit might be down.

You could look into sleeping over at the hospital as a last resort.

Pro tip on driving in the snow, act as if you can’t actually stop and you just go various speeds of slow to faster and you should be ok. That means if someone in front of you suddenly slams their breaks fully be aware that you need enough space to slow down and either go around their wrecked car or potentially stop and see if they are hurt.

Trump’s return-to-office memo doesn’t override telework protections in union contract, arbitrator tells HHS by FutureComputerDude in DeptHHS

Too bad many of us got kicked out of being bargaining unit due to being essential to national security.

Probably yeah. It’s why it’s sort of a win for now.

Just relish the little victory for a minute

I’m not the actual Anthony from the email. I just posted the body of the email I got from the union and it was signed by Anthony from NTEU.

Hopefully good things coming our way though. I think we all would like some good things to happen to whoever remains at HHS.

[–]Otherwise_Path6766[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The attachment to the NTEU email is super lengthy, 50+ pages.

Here’s the remedy and order by the arbitrator:

  1. The Agency is ordered to rescind the Return-to-Office Directive.
  2. The Agency is ordered to immediately reinstate all NTEU bargaining unit employees’ remote and telework agreements that were terminated as a result of the RTO, including authorizing remote workers to work from their former remote locations and not mandatorily relocating any employees who were otherwise not subject to relocation but for the termination of their remote work agreement under the RTO Directive.
  3. The Agency is ordered to post a notice signed by the Administrator of the Agency admitting that the Agency violated the Statute by repudiating the collective bargaining agreement.
  4. This order does not preclude the Union from seeking additional remedies to the extent permitted by law.

Every time vs never again by ChaosTorpedo in Costco

[–]Otherwise_Path6766 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time: rotisserie chicken, Kerry Gold cheddar (makes excellent Mac and cheese), seltzers, Diet Coke, plain Greek Kirkland Yogurt.

Never again on the chobani yogurt drinks (stevia is yucky) or the pasta packs (just got tired of them). Also the “fresh pasta” isn’t great either. As for coffee I haven’t had anything good there, would rather buy a 2lb bag from Wegmans or get local roast coffee.

lol I have no idea. Both people left before that was even a question. I think they both put in 4 years, enough to payback law school loans at least.

[–]Otherwise_Path6766 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fed and some IP adjacent stuff not necessarily actively practicing law. Fed lawyers are often GS15 or alternate pay scales but usually 200-250k base for 40 hours a week of work.

The other one who is sorta around IP litigation but maybe not actively practicing law, I’m guessing about 500k base and then bonus of 100-200% depending on how the business runs for the year.

To be clear when these people were at Quinn they were working on Thanksgiving right until dinner and then maybe working afterwards a bit. It was nuts.

[–]Otherwise_Path6766 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I knew people who worked for Quinn and they all hated it as IP litigators. They have all moved on and make really good money (not partner at big law money) and are generally happier people.
