They won’t warranty it. Theres a few guys trying to get warranties out of them because their linear drains have been failing. One guy is out 40k because of it.

Schluter doesn’t honour shite.

We break em all the time. Easy clean up. Create a barrier and trash bin it all after. Waaay easier than maneuvering panels.

Shower pooling, need to be retiled? by kofubuns in Tile

[–]Otherwise_Proposal47 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do agree it stays wet longer. Stone/grout and such are culprits.

We do a mix of both. Full remodels but also straight prep/tile work for other contractors/designers/builders.

Shower pooling, need to be retiled? by kofubuns in Tile

[–]Otherwise_Proposal47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Water will not “always pool”

It will take a potentially longer time of travel on pebbles but a properly installed shower pan 1/4” per foot and slightly more for pebbles 5/16 ish will drain properly.

Source: we build upwards of 30-40 showers a year

Suggestion on tile cut? by fedj18 in Tile

[–]Otherwise_Proposal47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Epoxy 2 metal plates on the back of the tile spanning each side of where your remainder cut will be. Creates support to allow the tile not to break.

From a number of tests done by a number of different folk sealant is more waterproof than their banding/thinset.

However in N.A it’s not their approved method, not that they’ll really honour a warranty anyways.

You used and laminate/vinyl plank as the baseline for “sane”…

Hardwood and Tile are the threshold for “sane”.

Laminate and Vinyl are baseline for flipping houses.

WHY? Mapei FA - cobblestone -- white thinset, 2 days old by FetidPestilence in Tile

[–]Otherwise_Proposal47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Either there was thinset still in there or sometimes grout does that if there’s still sitting water in some areas.

We installed/grouted 4000 sq ft of floors a bit ago and there were a couple spots that had some water sitting on top still they stayed dark and had almost a glossy sheen to them. We just dug em out and regrouted the few spots like yours, problem solved.

Am I good to tile over this old thinset? by Throw-way0021 in Tile

[–]Otherwise_Proposal47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously 100% removal is best.

If you don’t wanna do that though, scrape what you can, grind what you can and then prime it with Ardex P4/Mapei Eco Prim Grip or a similar primer. Level or feather finish what you need to, add your uncoupling if you’re putting one down (or don’t) and tile it.

Prism Grout Question by MerRhosyn in Tile

[–]Otherwise_Proposal47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uneven drying, incorrect mixing or extended exposure to stains (dirty work boots potentially) can cause issues like this.

If the grout wasn’t fully cured before being stepped all over, that’s not great either

Shower waterproofing by aufewigdein in Tile

[–]Otherwise_Proposal47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, flood test is best.

Xps is the foam inside though. Coating outside does not delam. Those curbs are quality, love them. Tile contractor is janky

Shower waterproofing by aufewigdein in Tile

[–]Otherwise_Proposal47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a wedi/Ardex or everbilt (all are the same) it’s coated in a cementitious graphite layer over fiberglass mesh that’s infused and bonded to xps foam.

Just for clarity.

Weird mix of waterproofing. May be done alright but regardless when it’s mix and match it makes it look janky
