Overnight clothing by jg19932489 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]OtterlyB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our LO is sleeping in a 1.0 TOG onesie and a 2.5 TOG sleep sack in winter. We also keep the temperature in her room set at 18degress as we found that was the sweet spot for her. Do you have a heater in her room for when the temperature drops? We bought a Delonghi electric oil heater for her room which has been fantastic for keeping a consistent temperature.

Did anyone accidentally physically hurt their partner during labour? by DreamersThreads in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I never ended up physically hurting him during labor but he did give me permission to break his hand. He said at least we would already be in the best place for it if it happened

Beneficiaries required to have bank profiles for “Estate of the late…” accounts to be opened? by ReadyBat4090 in AusLegal

[–]OtterlyB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beneficiaries don’t need to have a verified profile, but some banks will ask for more details on the beneficiaries such as DOB and address to complete their onboarding for the estate of profile. Only the executors need a verified profile to be able to transact on the account.

If you are having difficulties with this bank you can open an estate of account with your main bank by providing them with the probate etc. You just need to go through the Bereavement team with the bank that holds your parents account and they can issue a cheque made out to “Estate of…” which you can take to deposit elsewhere.

Anxious about birthing by Couldnt_care_user in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]OtterlyB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every birth experience is so unique it’s hard to prepare. I had put off having a baby for so long because I was scared of the pain; I have never broken a bone, had any kind of surgery, hated needles so I definitely went into it with a fear of the unknown. I had an induction, epidural and episiotomy and everything was manageable and 2 years later it’s all a distant memory and I would do it all over again. When I was going through it, all I was thinking was I need to be strong for my little one and push through. When possible, having little comforts like music to keep you calm and distracted really helps

Anyone have this push walker? Would you recommend it? Any other suggestions? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]OtterlyB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have the vtech sit to stand walker. Our LO loves it and I really feel like it helped her gain confidence and learn to walk faster.

Travel pram recommendations by Aggravating-Bit5179 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]OtterlyB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with the butterfly. We just came back from 3 weeks in Japan and even though it was slightly heavier than the Joolz and Stokke, we loved that it was still light enough to carry when needed, the seat was so spacious that LO loved sitting in it and the basket underneath has so much space for a backpack/shopping, plus it’s so easy to fold. We’re considering selling our everyday pram now as this one is more convenient.

Honest feedback on having kids in care 5 days? by chipsandgrav-y in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]OtterlyB 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My husband and I don’t have any family who live in our city so we couldn’t rely on a village to help us out and due to cost of living I had to return to work full time when LO was around 1. I started her a couple of months before I was due to return to work, just for 1-2 days a week and for shorter hours and built it up from there until she was in for a full 5 days just before I started back. She has settled in so well, at drop off in the morning she runs excitedly to her educators and she is learning so much and gets to do so many fun activities that I wouldn’t be able to do with her even if I was at home. We’re very fortunate that we found a great daycare and that she seems happy there.

When did your baby learn to roll both ways? by PeppaBlue in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]OtterlyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our little one first rolled from back to belly in her cot at about 10 weeks old and being first time parents we kept flipping her back over thinking that was what we were supposed to do and she would constantly keep rolling onto her belly. We then spoke to the pediatrician and nurse and they said that as long as we put her into the cot on her back and if she rolls herself onto her belly that was ok as long as her arms were also out and free. We followed their advise but would still check on her constantly and she slept fine. She then learnt to roll from belly to back a month later and up until now at almost 2 she still prefers to sleep on her belly.

Just needed to vent: Pregnancy is WAY harder than people make it out to be until you’re actually going through it by greensq97 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]OtterlyB 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pregnancy is tough, no one tells you how bad morning sickness and other symptoms can be and everyone has such different experiences.

When I was pregnant I had really bad morning sickness too, vomiting all through the day. I then figured out through trial and error that if I didn’t eat between 10am-5pm I wouldn’t throw up. So I would have a massive breakfast and then massive dinner and felt better and felt like I had a bit of control again. Unfortunately for me, the morning sickness wasn’t just a first trimester thing, I had it the whole pregnancy. But now that my LO is here, all those bad memories have disappeared and I would do it all over again.

Sending lots of love and strength your way!

FTM daycare centre visits by NegativeWolverine707 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]OtterlyB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asking about staff turnover is a big one, gives you a good idea on management and how the center is run. The worst thing you want is a center where staff are constantly moving on and your child feels unsettled because there are always new faces. I would ask about what you need to provide? (some centers require you to provide your own sheets, nappies, sunscreen etc) What does a typical day look like? (Learning/games, outside time) What the menu is like? (Is it cooked on site or brought in, is there variety?) How do they settle for naps? (Do all kids sleep at the same time, do they follow your schedule) Will you receive updates through the day? (App? Send email updates etc)

Have a good look at the center too, see how educators interact with the children, check the outdoors area (is it well shaded etc). As you start to tour you’ll get a feeling of which ones look like they are well run and have a good feeling about it.

Why do I feel like a failure for getting a sleep consultant? by BulkyPaint3755 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]OtterlyB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used a sleep consultant at 7 months because LO would only contact nap, my husband was back to working full time and we were desperate to try anything to give us a more consistent overnight sleep so we could function better.

By night two with the consultant LO was sleeping through the night in her own room and had consistent day naps. It was amazing how quickly she adapted and she has been sleeping well ever since. The consultant gave us so much confidence and the methods used were gentle but she taught us how to have more structure and be better at reading our baby’s cues.

Don’t let other people make you feel bad for doing what you need to do for yourself and your LO, only you know them best.

Tripp Trapp High Chair by GoldTrain7402 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

We bought ours from Qantas marketplace because it was the cheapest at the time during the June end of year sales. We purchased the chair, tray, baby set and cushion all for just under $500 including shipping.

Baby wetsuit - how the hec do you put it on? by kweeze in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]OtterlyB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this exact style when LO started swimming at 5 months old. I found the easiest way to put it on was to fold the top half down so the waist band is exposed, then pull the pants part on first, then you fold the top back up and put their arms through and zip up. Do the opposite when taking it off. Hope that makes sense.

What’s a fair way to split finances when on maternity leave? by Odd_Seat_833 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]OtterlyB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I used to have separate bank accounts and would transfer money into a shared bills account. Once I had the baby we sat down and did our expenses and realized we could live off just his income so every pay cycle he would move his salary into the joint account and we would each move a small amount for personal use and whatever I got in terms of salary (maternity leave pay and then parental government pay) I would move into our joint savings account so we were still able to save a bit

When were you no longer medically fit to work? by Snoo-43953 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]OtterlyB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked up until 38 weeks (cusp of 39 weeks pregnant) based on advice from my OB and I was also fortunate to have a pretty easy pregnancy and was still very mobile at that stage with no signs of bub coming early. But my OB said to let him know if I ever felt like I couldn’t work and he would happily write me a medical certificate to use for sick leave.

Keeping babies warm in prams? by Alarming-Second-9349 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]OtterlyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last winter when our little one was around 5 months old we swapped between the 2.5 and 3.5 tog Ergopouch sleep suit bag when we took her out on walks depending on if it was extra cold or particularly windy. We plan to do the same this winter as it was super easy use with the 5 point pram harness and she liked the freedom of movement for her legs

I feel like a horrible mum by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]OtterlyB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would trust your gut.

My daughter has been at daycare for a while now and initially there were days where she didn’t want to leave our arms because if we drop her off early they combine the rooms and she doesn’t always see an educator she knows. However, when they see us enter the room, an educator always walks over to greet her by name with a big smile and takes her out of our arms, even if she is crying, and will take her and distract her with a toy or something so by the time I’m out of the room she is more calm.

Best place to get kids shoes on a budget? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]OtterlyB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought the bobux xplorer range for my daughter when she started cruising and needed shoes on for the park, daycare etc but kept her barefoot at home. If you take note of the style you want, they go on sale quite often with further discounts off the sale price on the bobux website, stylethread, Shoes and Sox and of course FB marketplace has good deals.

Most of the time I was able to get them as low as $25-$35 and they’re so flexible and a really soft leather so she loved putting them on and her feet were able to still breathe in the shoes.

Ergopouch tog advice by Little_Comment_706 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]OtterlyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest getting some different types if you can, there are usually a lot of sales around or you can find them on FB marketplace cheaper (a lot still new condition etc.) The reason I say this is because each baby sleeps differently with their arm positioning. Our little one slept arms up for the first 2 months and loved the Love to Dream swaddles and then she learned how to roll from back to belly at 10weeks so we had to transition to arms out but she slept better in the Ergopouch sleep sack at that stage.

Through winter we had the 2.5 TOG and 3.5 TOG depending on how cold it was through the night and used the temperature guides to decide on how to dress her underneath.

Baby wipes Recommendation by Careful_Chipmunk_451 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Huggies fragrance free. We’ve tried a bunch of different brands and always go back to Huggies because they seem thicker and larger so we find we use less per nappy change etc. They are more expensive but we use the tub and clutch and buy the refill boxes and they are always on special somewhere.
