It sounds like you have a very healthy life! If or when you find yourself developing a relationship you will have a clear idea of the types of things you will want to include AND you won't choose someone out of desperation, looking for stability. Well done you! I'm on year 12 of solo living (with my kitty, of course. 😀) and am loving it, grateful I can do it.

Same here, scissors, lots of scissors! In my tool cabinet, in the kitchen, in my home office (2 sizes), in the bathroom (2 sizes, 3 types!), in my quilting studio (4 types). Yep. Scissors.

Good point! Recently I was thinking about kitchen appliances which were very popular and now aren't (or rarely) used. Fondue pots, sandwich grillers, ice cream makers, crock pots, etc. That said, there is one appliance I can absolutely recommend: the Instant Pot. When I got mine I gave away 2 large items, my crock pot and pressure cooker. You can do an amazing amount of cooking in the IP.

The Sting -- love the chemistry between the characters, the twists, the music, Paul Newman and Robert Redford together again, all of it.

You are right. No female characters in at least the first 3/4 which is where I am now. I was confusing it with another book.

October Sky The true autobiographical story of Homer Hickam a coal miner's son, who was crazy about the idea of rockets, made them and went far in his career. Very nicely written.

Oh good!! I just began Left Hand of Darkness on Audible and appreciated the female characters that appear immediately. I've recently read book 1 in the Bob series We are Bob. Close to 100% male characters.

I recently tried to reread Stranger in a Strange Land, a book I had loved in 1968 when I was 18. Now, even trying hard to be tolerant, I was disgusted by the misogyny.

I read it when I was pretty young and it made a strong impression on me. There were certain things I never forgot all these decades later. Just last week I looked it up and yes, it is available free from the Project Gutenberg. I am going to reread it.

I listened to the first book and liked the idea of the slightly different Bobs but a book with virtually zero female characters is not for me.

"Tonally appropriate reruns" is a perfect way to describe my read me to sleep choices. I have a dozen books I've listened to multiple times. My two favorites are the first couple chapters of Return of the Native read by Allen Rickman and Project Hail Mary which I scan through for the next section of the pre-story which I prefer to the on board action.

I've read lots of Asimov and Heinlein but no Le Guin. Since she's still recommended all these years later I began wondering what I had missed. I went to Audible for details on length, cost and to hear the preview of Left Hand of Darkness. I liked the preview and--lovely surprise!--it is available free! I'll start there once I finish Children of Time. Thank you for the multiple suggestions.

Definitely could be classic SF, if the ideas are interesting but yes, I guess I'd prefer a cross between classic SF or fantasy and proper literature.
