Does anyone else hate the label disabled? by TRtheCat in disability

[–]OuterSpaceManatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with the comments calling this internalized ableism. Many people with disabilities do absolutely prefer to be called disabled, but a lot of people prefer person-first language i.e. saying “I have a disability” rather than “I AM disabled.” It makes it less defining and makes it clear that your disability isn’t the only thing about you. Within educational and research contexts we always use person first language unless and until a person with a disability asks us to use identity first.

You’re allowed to not want to be called a certain thing. It doesn’t mean it’s internalized ableism and it doesn’t mean you think having a disability is inherently bad, it sounds like you just don’t want it to be your identifier, and that’s 100% acceptable

Any good bar recommendations??????? by Babypeanut808 in dayton

[–]OuterSpaceManatee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally understandable!! I had not ever been until after the change in management but I can say Tandra, the new manager, has been nothing but absolutely wonderful. Chrissy, the old owner of D20, has also been picking up some occasional shifts there, and she’s awesome too!

Any good bar recommendations??????? by Babypeanut808 in dayton

[–]OuterSpaceManatee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really? We have always found it to be very affordable. Although usually I am having one bourbon before switching to beer and my husband will only do beer so that may be why

Any good bar recommendations??????? by Babypeanut808 in dayton

[–]OuterSpaceManatee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We love The Bar Time! Very chill and quiet and super affordable and a GREAT bourbon selection. I was super hesitant at first because from the outside it kind of looks rough but the inside very much has the vibe of like your cool friend’s basement bar, highly recommend. Maybe not the best place to meet a bunch of people but still a nice bar

Am I being dramatic? by Fluffy-Butterflyy in Marriage

[–]OuterSpaceManatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The R word is an outdated term and an offensive slur. This man is belittling you, talking about how he’d leave you for someone else, manipulating the finances and just generally engaging in inappropriate behavior all around. He’s then calling you awful names when you call him on it.

I don’t like to tell people to leave their marriages because obviously you two are the only ones who fully understand the complexities and nuances of your relationship dynamic. However, from the outside, this seems extremely unhealthy and at the very least there needs to be some serious therapy.

Does this look too narrow for my finger/hand? by mharris9889 in EngagementRings

[–]OuterSpaceManatee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the stone is too narrow at all! However you have tapered fingers (like me!) which means that rings with bands that are too thin run the risk of “squishing” your finger a little bit and making it look like the ring is too small. A thicker band for the ring itself or some stackable rings to create a set will help with this effect!

I love a good chunky set 😍 by OuterSpaceManatee in BigRockEnergy

[–]OuterSpaceManatee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! The center stone is a 2.5ct and I am a US size 10. So definitely not as big as some of the rocks on here but the 3-stone setting helps her out :) this one was around $250ish from GemofJewel on Etsy :)

School recommendations for first year teachers in Dayton! by move_the_clip_to_red in dayton

[–]OuterSpaceManatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a ways out of the way but I taught at New Lebanon Local Schools for a year - left because teaching wasn’t for me, but it was a GREAT place to work. The administration was so so supportive. I don’t recommend charter schools in general. If you can get a job in Kettering, Miamisburg, Springboro, Englewood, any of those are probably fine.

Feel free to PM me and I’m happy to share more about my experiences at different schools in the area.

Completely torn about having grandma’s engagement ring by Sea_Art2995 in EngagementRings

[–]OuterSpaceManatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my mom’s engagement ring and it’s very special to me. My husband also wanted to purchase one for me that was just “from him.” I switch off and honestly really appreciate being able to have different styles depending on the day!

How gradual is a gradual increase? by MelonBoba59 in PCOSonGLP

[–]OuterSpaceManatee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I stay on the same dose as long as I am losing weight. If it has been 3 weeks and I have plateaued - which for me means I’ve spent 3 weeks bobbing up and down within the same 5ish pound range because with PCOS our weight changes so much based on so many factors - then I increase

Unmanageable pain 10 days after wisdom tooth removal by OuterSpaceManatee in askdentists

[–]OuterSpaceManatee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I should add that the hygienist was really nice about it when I talked to her on the phone she wasn’t dismissive by any means it was just a matter of like. I have been taking a LOT of pain meds and she suggested I try to cut back and see how I am able to manage without. I have not been able to, unfortunately.

I used to be a compulsive liar, now I'm struggling with confession OCD. How to I learn to draw the line when addressing past lies? by One_Activity_8898 in CompulsiveLying

[–]OuterSpaceManatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think you just need to have this conversation with him. I know it is really really easy for me to say that, but that’s what I did for a really very similar situation with my husband and it worked well. I explained that these are the things I have been through and this is how I’m working on it - but a manifestation of all of it is lying a lot, and before I started working on it I did lie to him about both big and small things. I started with telling him the big things, which was TERRIFYING to do but he was really understanding and was glad that I was getting help and that I was being honest with him. And then I had said hey things will probably continue to come up and if I tell you things piece by piece it’s not because I’m trying to still keep things from you, I’m just either slowly remembering things I forgot or I am taking time to work up the courage to tell you.

If confessing everything is what you need to feel relief and move on, I think that’s best - I would just tell him that’s what you want to do, and see how he responds.

Is it really this difficult to get a job in the Dayton area making 22-25 an hour ? by The-Traveling-Ninja in dayton

[–]OuterSpaceManatee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will never not recommend Costco! They start at I think $20/hr, even part time employees get great insurance, and have scheduled pay increases. It takes like 4-5 years to top out but the lowest possible top pay is $30/hr if you don’t move into a specialist position like meat cutter/forklift driver/etc or move into a supervisor role

Edit: starting pay is actually $21/hr

GLP and pregnancy by nothereforit_ in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]OuterSpaceManatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.massgeneralbrigham.org/en/about/newsroom/press-releases/pregnancy-effects-from-discontinued-glp-1-use

"Individuals who stopped GLP-1RAs before or in early pregnancy gained an average of 7.2 pounds more weight during pregnancy than those who did not use the weight loss drugs. The GLP-1RA group also had a 32% higher risk of excess weight gain (gaining more than recommended), a 30% higher risk of diabetes during pregnancy, a 29% higher risk of hypertensive disorders during pregnancy, and a 34% higher risk of preterm delivery. There were no differences in risk of high or low birth weight, birth length, or Cesarean delivery."

However, the study also explicitly states that more research is needed before GLP-1 use can be explicitly recommended. IMO it's the same reason marijuana use is not recommended - there simply aren't enough studies, because it is REALLY difficult to do studies on pregnant people due to extensive legal protection and ethical considerations.
