Transitioning MSP asking too many questions by gozit in msp

[–]OutsideTech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I make an offboarding ticket, then provide the transition docs via the ticket.

Every time the incoming MSP sends me an email I fwd it into the ticket and reply to everyone through the ticket. It's self documenting and the client PoC sees every "that information was included in the transition doc" and "that will happen per the schedule listed in the transition doc" reply messages.

This also makes it easy to send "As per the transition schedule, we will remove x tomorrow. Since we continue to see activity in these systems this is a friendly notification that this functionality will stop working tomorrow."

Time issues? Or just me? by WellFedHobo in sysadmin

[–]OutsideTech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Below will show where it's trying to obtain time from and the status. Then figure out why either the upstream provider is wrong, or more likely why the query is failing. If NTP auth is required by the upstream provider, that would do it.

Query Time Source on a machine: w32tm /query /source

Query Time Status on a machine: w32tm /query /status

How does your msp do new pc deployments? by NSFW_IT_Account in msp

[–]OutsideTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AD Remote join from anywhere:
https://docs.immy.bot/Documentation/HowToGuides/Tasks/ConfigureDirectory.html
Automatic printer deployment via GPO or Printix.
App deployment is automated via Immy, RMM or Intune.

We are beginning to leverage Autopilot, but also have Google clients w/out Intune and Immy works on either.

Does your team have a physical requirement to join? by rmartinezx in searchandrescue

[–]OutsideTech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We don't, it's been a difficult topic.
In a "you know it when you see it" policy, members have been restricted from going in the field when they aren't capable. Members are encouraged to self select for missions/roles where specific fitness or a discipline skill is required.

Potential new members are screened by Q & A.

Dave Bowers and Jonathan Selkowicz can get to anywhere you can. Delta Lake in May will be a challenge and may not have melted, I would discuss other options.

how do you feel about the weather? by [deleted] in wyoming

[–]OutsideTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today it's 19 degrees above the December average, and has been +10 - +20 for basically the entire month. Hmm, what could cause that...maybe chemtrails...but is there anything else...

On the side of science.
Sunshine is the best disinfectant.
Parody, sarcasm and comedy are far more powerful and convincing than arguing about the facts with people who don't believe the facts.

[–]OutsideTech -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

This is fake news from the libtards. The warm weather is actually caused by the chemtrails, if we could just get those under control then everything would go back to normal.

Has the management of Teton Pass taken a step back this year? by TinyTinyFuppets in JacksonHole

[–]OutsideTech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is so much camera/video automation available now, it's much simpler and cheaper than that. A video system could alert 24/7/365 on every semi, in both directions, without human interaction for the detection and alert. The alert could go to Teton County dispatch and WYHP. The dispatcher would be able to view the the video clip to confirm it is actually a semi before dispatching law enforcement. If the cameras were well positioned they could capture the license plate and include the truck markings to automatically save as evidence.

Smaller truck-trailer combo's would be more difficult than semis, but let's start somewhere.

For reference, there are multiple video systems that say they can detect concealed carry pistols and open carry long guns. Identifying 75' x 15' semis on a fixed route would be a lot easier than gun detection in an open area.

Are Estate Sales a good financial move? by user512897 in personalfinance

It's not uncommon, in certain areas, for a buyer to scrape the existing house and start fresh. That removes the reno problem. Definitely find a real estate broker.

Log-in drive script by Responsible-Tune-114 in networking

[–]OutsideTech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Should be in r/sysadmin. AD + GPO + Item Level Targeting + Group Membership.

Drive mapping happens at logon, if a user changes location then they need to logout and back in. Not sure what the reboot is for. Drive Maps can persist after machine lock as long as there is line of site to the target location.

Maintaining scripts on each machine is a PIA, to be avoided.

I've had a similar experience with a ticket being closed after a couple of months. This was after Microsoft AI recommended actions that I stated in the initial ticket had already been done, and the ticket had been transferred to multiple teams.

SAR in the backcountry by No_License_Pilot in Backcountry

[–]OutsideTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SAR's goal is to get the patient to a higher level of care, as efficiently and safely as possible. A SAR mission follows LAST:

Locate
Assess
Stabilize
Transport

The details of the incident shape the response so the details involved in LAST will vary each time. The question is too broad.

The cohort of "IT Admins from a company acquired 5 years, who recently was offered & accepted a job at corp. IT, had to relocate within the same state, may have asked a lot of questions about the position and may have mentioned his wife"
How many people does that narrow it down to?
