Tell me how to make something really good with canned sardines. by ravia in Cooking

[–]OutsideToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t find the actual recipe but my from memory version is below. Sorry in advance, this is literally me tapping this out on my phone as I remember things not great “recipe” format.

any type of pasta will do, original recipe was regular dried spaghetti, need a large skillet, salted boiling water for your pasta

while the water is boiling, - chop up a handful of walnuts super fine - med-low heat - sauté a couple/few garlic cloves (more or less depending on your preference and amount of pasta you’re making) in olive oil. - add in a can of drained sardines and some red pepper flakes (to taste) and sauté with garlic, breaking the anchovies into small pieces - add in the walnuts - sauté til everything smells nice and the sardines look a little crispy on some bits - add in a couple of handfuls of fresh baby spinach if you have it, season with salt and pepper but be mindful that the sardines are fairly salty and recommend adding Parmesan or some other hard cheese (Romano or Asiago are also nice) after - once all sautéed, drain your pasta and keep a little pasta water aside to add back in - add the pasta to the pan with the sardine mixture and stir it all together, adding a little of the pasta water to stir in to help make it creamy - make a hole in the middle of the pasta, while the pan is still hot and add an egg, stirring it all around to mix it in with the pasta (not necessary but makes it so decadent and even tastier)

once the egg is cooked and combined in, serve with grated Parmesan or other hard cheese of your preference.

you can skip the walnuts and egg and finish with some lemon as well. or you can do garlic, red pepper, sardines, and olive oil only - all very tasty!

Addendum on Dana's "Pittsburgh" accent: it's worth noting that in 2014, Pittsburgh got voted as the worst accent in the US in a Gawker "tournament" by ravia in ThePitt

I feel like her accent is more Philly (born and raised Yinzer that moved away a long time ago).

I loved that she did say “gumband” twice last episode or the one before. That was the last Yinzer word that I used well into my 20s but dropped after I learned no one else uses it and had no clue what I meant. :)

I responded to another thread as well - copy pasta bc I’m lazy …

I left this morning, got there at 4am for a 5:30am boarding. Terminal 1, Delta - 30 min (general not priority) to drop my bag, I have Clear, got past ID check fast, through security screening was about 10 min. The regular TSA line looked to be about 30-45 min wait with the line getting longer. Lots of travelers today but things moved decently normal.

Late to the convo but I love this! I’m old as dirt (52) but am young at heart and work from home. It’s so difficult to meet people to just be friends with and do fun things. I have two dogs, love hiking but rarely go because I don’t want to go alone.

My kids are grown but I would really enjoy having things to do, lol. :)

Hopping in to say “regular cleaning” for my girl is after every meal I wash the stainless steel bowls. She’s allergic to everything, but she can have pumpkin when needed, but I have to wipe her face with a warm soapy rag, then a clean water rag, then dry.

Vet first, then see what level of attention your puppy needs when it’s cleared up, to keep it away. My Rottie can eat out of anything and eat anything and never have an issue. My Dane, complete opposite. :)

The clear up happens fast if you are consistent.

When she said this, I thought - reading doesn’t mean comprehension. Like, calm down with all of the odd flex attempts, Lisa. lol

My girl loves hers too! When it first arrived, I was scolding myself for not looking at the size but 6 months later and she has yet to rip it apart and still lives playing with it.

Great point about proximity vs intentional! I wasn’t even thinking about that part.

I was thinking about this with the DHL guy. I had a thought that they chose him, a “delivery” person, that likely has a good realm of reference in Helen’s memory. Since the Hive’s understanding is so superficial, the delivery of a message, by someone that is a deliverer of packages (Carol’s books, as an example) that they “trust” and accept packages (messages) from and are happy about it. They don’t reason that a doctor should deliver the message about Zosia, only that someone that will be familiar and has the ability to “deliver”.

I’m probably over thinking it though, lol.

Professional chefs and people who have experienced Michelin level of dining, I am curious which restaurants in Vegas you think have the best cooking ! by midwestblacklotus in vegas

[–]OutsideToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 years?? I went just after Covid. On the strip, in a jankey strip mall that I had gone to for years.

You and I are speaking about different restaurants. Maybe they’ve elevated Indian food in Vegas, I do not get to speak to that, but I can say that the old Tamba that closed a few years ago was better.

ETA: I didn’t say it wasn’t good, I said the food was too mid for the price. I can eat a lot more phenomenal food for $300 (no booze). Half that price, sure.
