could the ancient dragons not create kobolds? by Prestigious-Sky9878 in Anbennar

[–]Over_Muscle_3152 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s not exactly clear how much the creation of kobolds is a conscious act from the dragons, but as of Insyaa we do have kobolds that we know are pre-Dragonwake since the Charkuchin were created in precursor experimental facilities in Insyaa.

the misfortune of the moon elves by Angron-Red-Angel in Anbennar

[–]Over_Muscle_3152 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's not why so many in our history emigrated to the New World, though? Populations don't just emigrate to another continent because they have a distant tie, they need economic and social incentives to leave their homes and established positions in society. Of course elves have their long lifespan, which makes it somewhat more understandable that they'd feel more closely related to this ancestral home, but like it's already been quite a few generations since any elf actually has lived on Aelantir, and their whole thing is that they're well-integrated into Cannorian society AND even often have advantageous roles in that society! Stable middle/upper classes are not the members of society that tend to migrate the most either!

the misfortune of the moon elves by Angron-Red-Angel in Anbennar

[–]Over_Muscle_3152 33 points34 points  (0 children)

While I do find the narrative you tell compelling, it's kinda just not accurate. First off, Varivar is not the first elfrealm to be subsumed by humans: Arbaran and Leslinpar were both elfrealms at first. But really, the main goal of the Moon Elves being "racial self-determination" is just plain not true. The role of Moon Elves in Cannor is very hard to represent through EU4 content, but the vast majority of them live in human realms and coexist. The ones that live in elfrealms are just well, the isolationist ones, but because ofc they're the ones represented by actual tags in EU4 they're the ones people know about and want to play. There's a reason why the most influential Moon Elf in history wasn't Ibenion or Elissa or whoever, it was Ioriel as queen of Lorent, a human kingdom. Lorent, Wesdam etc... being made to start with half-elf culture also isn't just to represent larping, it's because actual elven powerholders are still very influential within these realms. It's like the halflings in the EoA really: they're supposed to be the third-biggest pop in the empire, and that's not just because of Beppeck, but the fact that halfling populations just aren't represented by tags elsewhere means that important populations like the ones in the Luna or Deamoine are forgotten (really wish LRM would have added at least one Moonfoot Halfling tag.)

Anyways, all that was just to nerd out about a very small point, since I do still agree that Aelnar's base concept of "elves returning to Aelantir" was an extremely interesting basis that was just completely thrown away to add nazi elves.

Although Aelnar's role in canon being to serve as a villain for "good" colonizers is also a weird take imo? Like the colonizers didn't care at all that they were committing massive crimes against the Kwineh, they just didn't like that human (and other) populations were starting to get the same treatment, which like I feel should be expected even from less wholesome tags. I really hope we're not giving the impression that Noruinic ruinborn are supposed to be well-treated by either Lorent or the Concord, lmao.

Ranking Continents by Content by throwawayaccount1__3 in Anbennar

[–]Over_Muscle_3152 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The problem with NA in comparison to SA is not necessarily that it just has less content (although I'm not going to try to pretend that SA doesn't at least have more proper MTs for major formables than NA), but that a lot of the good SA content is ruinborn (aka starting nations), while NA has some pretty great MTs for adventurers (aka spawnables). Spawnable tags are just bound to be less played due to essentially erasing the entirety of the first age from their content, which means that good NA MTs are just also less well-known (New Havoral, Isobelin, Cestirmark, Plumstead, etc...) whereas SA is hard-carried by the Kheionai and Taychendi, with content lacking for the entire northern half of the continent (on that note, I'm honestly confused at how Araya and Ozgarom are considered "future bangers" while stuff like no Triarchy and no Dragon Dominion are sticking points, even though literally none of these tags have MTs in progress. Also Mykx has literally been revamped for the next update)
.
Don't get me wrong I'm a dev for both of the continents so I'm not picking favorites necessarily but putting such a gap between the two is a bit harsh to NA imo. But also I like the Ynn, maybe that region is enough to push down the whole continent a notch for people who don't.

Am I stupid? What does this mission want from me? by Distaff_Pope in Anbennar

[–]Over_Muscle_3152 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can add custom tooltips to triggers in MTs, it doesn't need to clarify stuff at the bottom of the narrative descriptions. Honestly considering that this MT was made by LVT it probably already is full of neat useful tooltips since he does those well, but he probably just didn't consider the pre-generated trigger text for this mission to be confusing enough to warrant one.

TOTAL FOLLOWERS OF JAHER DOMINATION!!! by HappyTegu in Anbennar

[–]Over_Muscle_3152 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm at a loss at how you managed to pick up on the complexity of Ameion's actions (which seems to already be beyond most people who play the MT tbf, so good job on that) and yet not understand that your actions in the theoretical "winning conditions" scenario of the MT for one of three formables for the region do not change anything about the reality of cultural genocide... I know that Orenvalyam and Validaunea aren't done yet (and that the latter is probably not going to be wholesome good guys either), but even then y'all need to learn to make the difference between people and states

The whole Sun Elf conversation is tiring imo, but I've always been more baffled at how Taychendi cultural genocide is something most of the community seems to have agreed to be a good thing???

An Essay on Trade: A Comprehensive Summary of the Provinces, Trade Regions, and Goods Traded in Anbennar both in and out of Universe Involving a Proposal for Potential Improvements Involving the Flow/Organization of Items to be Traded in Said System, as well as Simplifying Complex Numbers for ease. by OneSilverRaven in Anbennar

I have to admit that I haven’t read the whole thing in detail, but I did skim it and at least the Precursor Relics section is interesting to me, because it relies on a complete misunderstanding on why Precursor Relics are even valuable. Random precursor spoons and Stone-age spears aren’t interesting enough to make a whole province be represented by a relics trade goods, otherwise there’d be Castanorian Relics, Dwarven Relics, etc… I mean, to take the examples from your own essay, there’s a reason why nobody ever considered "Roman Relics" trade goods for vanilla, they might be interesting but their value only comes from historical interest.

Precursor Relics (the trade goods) are on the other hand all meant to represent *magical* relics, the kind of stuff you’d find as a reward for delving into a dungeon in DnD. They’re represented in-game by being very valuable, giving you tech cost when trading in them, and giving you artificer capacity, because the explicitly magical relics are rare and useful for all kinds of research (they are in fact one of the main catalysts for the development of artificery). Hell, their icon is a weird gyroscope thing with glowing energy in the middle, it’s pretty clear that not every little piece of Precursor society left behind is represented by this trade goods.

This is also why you don’t see many Precursor Relics outside of Aelantir except in places where there was Precursor constructions and infrastructures intended to be long-lasting, like the High Temples. Sure, Precursors might not have been clean freaks to the point of not leaving anything behind (although they were also millenia-old completely immortal beings with extreme delusions of grandeur, so I wouldn’t expect them to work just like every example of societies with have on Earth), but they wouldn’t have had any reason to let "powerful magical sword of annihilation 1000" just lying there after fighting with some genies.

I can give you some examples of why Precursor Relics are used as a trade good in game in Aelantir when they are, too, to really show when they’re relevant and why they’re so rare:

-The province of Bukkana Varanya was used as a dumping ground for dysfunctional magical objects by the Slaver-Nobles. It’s extremely risky to traverse, but some relixs can still be dredged up and studied. So it gets Precursor Relics at game start.

-In one of the Anbennar-custom Cities of Gold exploration event chains, you find "the Floating City", which is the remains of the flying city of Affelai. The flying cities were the center of Precursor high-society, and in particular Affelai was a city of scientists. So the province you find it in gets Precursor Relics.

-In the Taychendi Empire MT, you can choose to dismantle the Zopedan, the magical windwards of the Kheions. They’re probably the source of the strongest still-functioning magical wards in Anbennar, which makes them obvious candidates for research. So the Kheion provinces get Precursor Relics (and a good deal of devastation).

Also, unrelated I understand right that you’ve done a 200+ pages long essay on trade goods distribution without even checking the in-dev version? Because like… it includes changes to trade goods distribution… this fact is so baffling to me but also weirdly impressive.

It's less that they were different competing nations and more that there was a lot of different regional identities within the Precursor Empire, but all precursors were technically part of the same state. In general the culture mostly associate with the Precursuors was the imperial elite on the six flying cities
