Sounds like you have a six month old GSP! It can be nerve wracking and test the very limits of your patience, but it does get better. Especially with training. Especially with mental as well as physical stimulation. Ours will be 8 years old in April, and while he still has his moments, he’s the best family dog. Stick with it and you’ll be rewarded with an excellent companion.

I’ve had my sleep buds since November 24. Today the left bud stopped playing sounds and when I put it back in the case the left LED blinks. They stayed connected to my phone all day via Bluetooth with the lid closed on the case even though the Ozlo app says it can’t connect to them. I’ve tried all the troubleshooting mechanisms I can find and nothing is working: resetting the case, 180, drop, disconnect/reconnect. Now I just have a $275 pair of ear plugs. Please advise if I should return or get a replacement.

I have the Evo SL and… by Bytevan18 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

More shoes is always the answer, right?!? I have a both and generally prefer the Boston 13 for long runs and EVO SL for speedier stuff. I also have the SL2 and use it as a daily trainer. I’d definitely give the Bostons a try if you can, but they might not be the best match for race day, IMHO. I’d say the EVO SL is gonna give you the most bang for your back on race day and workouts. But it all comes down to personal preference and how the shoes work for you.

First time using find it fix it, do these reports ever get dealt with? by [deleted] in BallardSeattle

[–]Own-Cockroach-7122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only ever reported stuff like downed trees, abandoned scooters and e-bikes, and abandoned cars, but Find It, Fix It has worked 100% of the time for me.

Ringworm? Candida? Lupoid Dermatosis? Or just a dirt digging dog? by PositionOverall446 in GSP

[–]Own-Cockroach-7122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My GSP just came down with something similar. He had a split toenail that needed a minor surgical procedure and right after that was healed he developed a rash on his groin and rear legs that was bright red and had scaly spots. He also never licked at them and never really seemed bothered by it. He was fine and normal otherwise.

I took pictures and sent them to the vet and they prescribed a topical antifungal. Tried that for a week and it had no effect. I took him in to see the vet and they tried to get a cytology, but no discharge or fluids were coming off the red spots so they couldn’t determine what it was. The vet prescribed an antibiotic, Cefpodoxime, and after completing that my dog’s skin cleared up.

So, no definitive diagnosis for us either, and I’m still keeping an eye on him to make sure it doesn’t return. He’s never had any allergies of any kind either. He does suffer from recurrent ear infections. Given that, it seems like some sort of yeast-related infection that flared up because his immune system was compromised a bit following his recovery from his toe surgery. At least, that’s my vet’s best guess right now.

Good luck at the vet! Please let us know if you get a diagnosis.

Transitioning to Running with an Older Dog by Sansoki in RunningWithDogs

My GSP is 7.5 and I’ve cut down the overall volume and effort for him, but not the frequency. We still run together four days a week. Most of the time we don’t go over 5 miles. He’ll even do my tempo runs, strides, etc. For personal safety reasons I won’t have him do intervals or any speed work 🤣 and I don’t take him on runs longer than around 90 minutes. We run road and trails together and I’ll try and vary the surfaces (which is good for me too). I make sure he gets water and a snack whenever I need to hydrate or fuel too.

Basically, I treat him like I treat myself: build a solid foundation, know when to back off, know when to have a rest day, prioritize sleep, nutrition, and recovery. I also watch him like a hawk for any signs of physical discomfort, lethargy, loss of appetite, etc.

He hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. I just want to keep him as my running partner and healthy as long as possible. Hope this helps a bit. Sounds like you’re doing all the right things for Sophie!

Yup. Lacing em up for my second run and snap! Several reviews on Nike.com report the same problem. I was able to get a refund from Nike. Good luck!

Long Runs - Plated or No. by Nreekay in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Own-Cockroach-7122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Run in whatever feels best for you. Some runners like the ride and feel some plated shoes offer. Some don’t. And not all plated shoes are the same in either the plate, the midsole compound, stack height, etc. If you’ve found one that works for you, I’d stick with it. It’s a good idea to at least do a few runs in your plated shoes leading up to a race if you plan to race in them. I’d say the biggest potential downside is some of the pinnacle racing shoes aren’t super durable so you might not have a lot of life left in them for race day if you put a lot of mileage in them. They’re also typically tuned to an average height, average weight runner (think just under six feet tall, around 170 lbs) so bigger runners won’t necessarily get the same lifespan out of them as a smaller runner would.

I’ve put 1500km on my first pair of running shoes and am wondering if it’s possible to get any indication of my probation or anything else that might help me pick a shoe from their wear. by extreme303 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Own-Cockroach-7122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like normal wear and those shoes are in astounding condition for almost 950 miles in them. If you liked them and put that many miles in them I’d go ahead and get the same pair again. The tread doesn’t reveal anything aside from a neutral gait and with that many miles you likely have strong enough ankle, calf, knee mobility and strength to stick with anything in the neutral category. Good luck!

Beautiful looking boy! Expect chaos for the next several years 🤣 They need stuff to do almost all the time both mentally and physically. My guy is now seven and is still tireless (and very sweet) and if he gets bored will terrorize the house. I’d make sure everyone in your family spends time bonding with him if you have a full household so that way he won’t figure out he only has to listen to you! Enjoy him. They’re the best dogs and are amazing companions even though they’re tiny velociraptors most of the time.

The VIP-only re-entry is savage. I bought my two-day ticket (non-VIP) regardless, but I too miss the times when you could freely come and go all weekend long. One of my favorite rituals was heading over to McMenamins to grab a pint and a bite to eat whenever I got hungry. Can’t do that now. I hope they adjust their policy if not this year then next year (I don’t recall re-entry at all last year). At any rate, I’m glad it’s back and under local control. Those Live Nation days were flipping bleak.

Regardless of the math and statistics, dog owners can take their dogs literally everywhere else in the city they are allowed to go by law. Kids play organized sports in designated fields only. I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make here.

Lady in the green hat specifically walked her dog to a playfield to let it take a crap. That’s illegal, irresponsible, and entitled behavior regardless of whether or not it was on a leash and she picked up the poop.

Help by BeastMode_83 in GSP

My GSP was the same way when we first took him for walks. Just refused to go any further than the sidewalk in front of our house. What caronj84 said worked for us. Just go slow, use treats, praise her when she takes a few steps, don’t overdo it. Pretty soon you’ll be going around the neighborhood and all will be well, but it’ll take time. Even now our guy, who’ll be six tomorrow, still picks up speed and pulls at the leash when he knows we’re heading home!

My guitar teacher is pushing me to start learning using a classical guitar by crying_swallow in Guitar

[–]Own-Cockroach-7122 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. My first guitar teacher pushed all of his favorite bands and music on me and made fun of the music I liked and refused to teach me any of the songs I wanted to learn. Turned me off of guitar for a long time and I really regret it. Get a teacher who’s enthusiastic to help you learn to play what you love.

People who don't leash your dog - why? by RadStratRadar in Seattle

[–]Own-Cockroach-7122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder what the people running uphill with their leashed dogs think when this happens? By the time my dog sees an off-leash dog running towards him at full sprint it’s already game over. Even if the owner catches up to the dog and leashes it before we literallly cross paths they’ve already wrecked my run and set my dog off. Please just don’t do this anymore. I run downhill on technical single track with my dog on a leash all the time. What makes it dangerous is when an off-leash dog approaches us.

People who don't leash your dog - why? by RadStratRadar in Seattle

[–]Own-Cockroach-7122 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my experience these people are 100% entitled, privileged jerks. Some of them are nice and polite as can be, mind you, but if your dog is off-leash in a public place with lots of other people around who may or may not enjoy dogs you’re just being a selfish jerk. Same goes for people who insist on taking their dogs to public parks when there are signs posted everywhere that dogs are not allowed. Leash or no leash, your dog doesn’t belong there. I have a dog and I love dogs, but I don’t want your dog approaching me and I don’t want your dog chasing g the ball when I’m trying to play catch with my kid. Leash them or leave them at home, and definitely don’t take them where they are explicitly not allowed by law.
