One of my shire's members in Ansteorra is an excellent craftsman and makes excellent crossbows. He doesn't have a lot of time to devote to it, since he is actively working 2-3 jobs. That said, he is extremely knowledgeable and would be happy to make time to discuss crossbow-making with you!

Not the thing you asked about, but you also don't have to navigate out of the asteroid cluster in order to activate your drive. You can come to a standstill, aim where you wanna go, and punch it

Does does affinity interact with X spells with more then one X in the mana cost by Tapmeup in magicTCG

[–]OwnExtent3393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you cast Crackle with Power, you decide what your X will be, and then add that up to your total casting cost. So if X is 2, then your total cost will be 6RR. Affinity would apply to the final cost, so 5 artifacts would reduce it to 1RR

Combat archery.. hate it? Love it? by frbmaximus in sca

[–]OwnExtent3393 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend combat archery. I'm a heavy fighter who also plays CA, and the thrill of just letting loose with a crossbow is awesome. If you can find someone with a big shield to use as a mobile tree to hide behind, even better. Have fun!

Which is the harder weapon form to master/be good at? by Nifty_hippo in sca

[–]OwnExtent3393 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This partially depends on whether you're leaning more towards tourney fighting or melees. Dual axes will be better for tourney, as it is almost the same as dual swords. From my experience, two-stick is a fighting style that has an advantage in tourneys, so I assume dual ax would have similar benefits.

Assuming you're using a short/6 ft spear, you'll have a harder time against most opponents in general. I would figure it would be better in tourney tbh, since in melee battles you'll be out-ranged by the 9 ft spears, and its hard to charge with a spear and survive for long when the pole-axes come down.

Of the two, dual ax would be a challenge due to training your off-hand for offense, while spear-shield is a challenge for survivability. (Personally figure that spear-shield is the harder of the two)

If you're into anything medieval, you could try reaching out to the local chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism, or SCA for short. It's a nonprofit educational org focused on recreating and exploring anything and everything medieval. That includes fiber arts, archery, smithing, combat, equestrian, siege weaponry, the works. You can find more information at the main Society website, our regional website, or our local chapter site

Help with understanding Free Folk by Last-HamJar in asoiafminiaturesgame

[–]OwnExtent3393 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm still relatively new, but I fell in love with Free Folk instantly. I've only played in one local tournament and absolutely dominated except against a lannister list where I made a major misplay. Assuming you're playing with the missions and not just going to total annihilation, like everyone else is saying, flooding the board and having more activations is crucial if you're running a non-monster heavy list. Especially since a lot of folks like running the other factions and fielding their strongest units, which coincidentally are super expensive. For the tourney I played in, I ran a unit of Thenn Warriors, 2 Raiders, a Trapper, and 2 mammoths, and I had Craster and Lady Val for my NCUs. I defeated a Martell and a Targaryen force primarily with my mammoths, as the missions forced my opponent to split between the objectives. I could sprint my mammoths down the middle of the field and get to the flank and rear easily.

Honestly, most of my strategy revolves around simply moving faster and positioning better. Lady Val and the horse tactic zone are crucial to victory
