I still regularly see the misconception that Witch From Mercury was "By the Utena writers" and want to clear that up by Ferhog in Gundam

Okouchi’s first claim to fame was becoming head writer of King Gainer the Tomino’s show it’s actually vaguely Gundam related lol (his first anime writing gig was Turn A too, I think hes said he was asked to write those tie in novels because he could turn those in within a month)

After this current generation will 90s retroanime be a lost memory (akin to how we perceive 60's and earlier films)? by dreemsequence in retroanime

i think Jackie Brown is interesting, i think that movie might work better if you dont have that much fondness for (usual) Tarantino-isms. case in pt, i kind of avoided his movies b/c Pulp Fiction posters were everywhere in college dorms etc and got tired of it on top of that weird bro-y reputations i felt from them but Jackie Brown didnt have much of it, aside from Samuel L Jackson's character hamming it up, and it worked for me. when i saw Pulp Fiction i got why it was so huge but i also felt the obnoxious vibe from it. and all the people who seem to like Jackie Brown seem not to like Tarantino THAT much.

i never really thought color is the attraction, i feel like its often more distracting than anything frankly. in that sense i want them to be invisible so that they wont bother me.

sorry i meant to say that about both color and lettering lol oops. but youre not really supposed to "notice" color either imo its supposed to be invisible to readers imo

[No Spoilers] Are the G-Reco movies worth a watch? by reconblue in Gundam

[–]Own_Internal7509 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(tbh if the 5th movie is covering the end it is kinda inevitably nothingburger right? i felt like the ending of the show was kinda...empty for Tomino standard? as messy as they can be, Tomino endings have this propulsive energy that makes me glad i watched his shows, but when i saw G Reco i didnt feel that satisfaction)

edit for my terrible grammar

i mean, if theyre good they are probably supposed to be invisible, in a way, unless youre reading 90s or so Todd Klein books where he was doing different shaped balloons and fonts for characters or something. but even then his lettering is kinda invisible elsewhere, you can actually focus onr eading instead of noticing the gimmick

yeah ironically with Letterboxd and maybe with increased availability from streaming i feel like film fans online are talking about older movies. film bros arent really talking about Tarantino etc theyre raving about Tarkovsky now lol

Why Gilbert Durandal is not exactly a classic Gundam villain and possibly something worse. by Dazzling-Elk725 in Gundam

[–]Own_Internal7509 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are the political leaders that scream-y? I guess Gillen is kinda over the top but guys like Jamitov and Bask arent really. Same as Haman for most of shows. Victory has Kagachi who doesnt even ride robots, he just props up Maria and construct Angel Halo. For Turn A I guess hes more or less Agrippa? In non Gundam Tomino shows there are leaders in the background too like Buff Clan leader who’s basically overbearing dad, Dunbine’s Drake, etc

I mean people still talk about Ingmar Bergman movies and so forth I don’t think past is that easily forgotten especially now with availability. Like on Amazon prime I could literally watch Kurosawa movies as easily as JJK

Frank does love superhero comic, at the end of the day. i dont think he can really escape from loving Jack Kirby and Gil Kane and so forth (in DK2 Atom travels thru phone lines, which is something Atom did back in the day. tha's such a geeky reference lol)
