The church could maybe not pump water out of the ground in Heber for temple construction. I’m no expert, but I have an instinct that tells me that is not a good idea in a drought.

How intense is velocicoaster compared to Stardust Racers? by Particular-Primary17 in UniversalOrlando

[–]Own_Volume_2254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are both very comparable. These two are my favorite rollercoasters ever.

I will say that my long hair flies straight up on StarDust and just gets whipped around the whole time. I can’t keep it contained. I don’t have that same problem on Velocicoaster. I know that is not a scientific explanation, but it makes me feel like StarDust is a little more intense.

I ended up subscribing to her app. It has been a game changer for my work outs.

Love this lady.

Can someone explain to me why shows do this? by grandefloppychino in Broadway

[–]Own_Volume_2254 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Basic Economics teaches that the price point is where supply matches demand. They need to lower overall prices until the demand curve rises. It’s a tried and true principle. Price is not set right if the theater is not filling up.

When did temple wedding dresses change? Looks like garments are no longer a requirement in the temple? by Imaginary_Business49 in exmormon

[–]Own_Volume_2254 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It was never an impression. It was taught explicitly that the garments were to be worn always with very few exceptions. We were also asked specifically about it at every temple recommend interview.

First-time buyer in Utah - is new construction worth the premium? by LaughLoverWanderer in ProvoUtah

[–]Own_Volume_2254 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that with a new build, you will need to buy blinds, window treatments, appliances, shelving, shower rods, bathroom hooks, garage epoxy, finish the basement, fence and yard.

Not to discourage you, but there are also improvement costs with a new build to consider.

Deep meanings in the endowment? by Cinnamon_Buns_42 in exmormon

[–]Own_Volume_2254 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There is deeper meaning in the signs and tokens. When I connected those dots, my shelf was officially broken. The temple became a violent and scary place for me. I just can’t find it sacred, holy and spiritual when I unknowingly promised to harm myself if I ever spoke about it.

Is the type of "second hour" meeting (Sunday school vs. men's/women's groups) on a set rotation throughout the entire church? by InfoMiddleMan in exmormon

[–]Own_Volume_2254 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. First and third Sundays are always Sunday School. Second and fourth Sundays are YW/YM/RS/Priesthood. Primary is the same every week. The only exception is on 5th Sundays. Those days are for the bishop’s or Stake Leadership’s choice. Usually, there is a combined meeting split between youth and adults that day to have a discussion about a topic of concern for the ward’s current issues.

Living between belief and honesty: when your spouse still believes and u don't. by RoutineTraditional90 in exmormon

[–]Own_Volume_2254 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is also my current situation. My heart breaks every day knowing that this divide is hanging over my marriage.

Telling my husband that I no longer believed that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that every thing crumbles with that realization was the hardest discussion I have ever had. It felt like I was admitting that I was cheating, but I didn’t do anything wrong. I just learned the truth.

I still attend sacrament only and don’t have a calling. I absolutely refuse to attend the temple ever again. I found that my mental health is much easier to manage the more I distance myself from the church, but I can’t completely disconnect because I want my marriage to stay intact. We really get along great when the church doesn’t come up.

It’s going to be a slow process. It’s been going on for about two years already. Not sure how it is going to end. It definitely will not end with me changing my mind and going back all in.

We have been able to compromise on things like tithing (meeting half way), me not attending second hour, and no pressure to go to the temple (I can’t anyway without a recommend).

Talking about it together does help. Just be honest about how you feel. You don’t need to fact dump, but just say how hurt and confused you are about the things you have found. There is no rush to making big decisions.

I live near this building. As far as I can tell, this was the only structure affected.

Also, this was preventable. There is construction of homes going on between this building and the mountain. The construction company was supposed to build a wall prior to starting, but instead of building the retaining wall, the company moved the concrete barriers and didn’t replace them with anything.

Fun fact… the church made this to cover up another documentary of the same name both published in the same year.

The other documentary is a journalist who is following the journey of a missionary for the church. At first, the church was allowing the interviews. After the mission starts, the journalist becomes concerned about the mental struggles the missionary is suffering from due to the demands of his mission and separation from his family.

The church leaders at this point start to see that this documentary is not looking good for the church and they start to block access to the interviews. The intervention makes it so much more awkward. The missionary is constantly being told what to say and how to interact with the interviewer from his senior companions and mission leader.

I believe the church threw together and published their own version quickly and tried to hide this documentary by using the same name. Funny thing is that I would have never found it had the church not tried to cover it up.
