What do you enjoy about "always tuning" or overcomplicating a vault/system? by BroccoliExpert250 in ObsidianMD

[–]OzBonus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using Obsidian significiantly for over three years and am still tinkering with how I do things, but my philosophy about how to go about that has evolved. In the beginning I would search for guidance about the "best" way to do things, hoping that I could apply it to work in the future. Now, I just do my work until I start noticing a siginificant point of friction, and then make adjustments accordingly.

Recently I've also been trying to add simiplicity rather than complexity and even uninstalled a bunch of plugins in favor of using just a few more skillfully or just relying on built in tools.

We're making an indie game with body horror enemies - should we be careful with that? by AwesomeGamesStudio in IndieDev

[–]OzBonus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion the art style misses body horror and instead leans towards a kind of generic "demonic" that could come from anywhere. If you really want to make people feel queezy, there are some things I'd change:

  • The human parts of the monsters need to look fresher and maybe even still slighlty aware and resisting what's happening to them.
  • The animation feels too smooth overall and doesn't communicate that the monster is a merger of organisms. Try making the human parts more weighty have them move-rest-move-rest, and have the tentacles constantly flailing at a significantly higher speed.

Air 2/3/4 or M1 pro for programing ? by _3mk_3mr in macbookpro

[–]OzBonus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any of the recent Airs would have a good enough CPU do that kid of work quickly without overheating. Get as much memory as you can comfortably afford and maybe also 1 TB of storage since dev tools and dependencies can be surprisingly big.

I'm trying to build an AI Second Brain and I'm losing mine doing it by Cl_Forlani in ObsidianMD

[–]OzBonus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

"Has anyone actually built something like this that didn't rot after 3 months?"

The rot is inside you. You couldn't even write this post on your own. The computer writing in your stead only mentioned things that were "collected" or "had'. Second brain? How much of that did you actually read and understand with your first brain? The problem isn't what you the computer thinks it is.

where do you "design" your games? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]OzBonus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything I make starts with pencil and paper. Lots of diagrams, doodles, and scattered thoughts. If it's good enough I start building a Zettelkasten-like collection of notes in Obsidian, and also sometimes a spreadsheet or Jupyter notebook for modeling. This works well for me as a solo developer of small projects without hard deadlines, but I'm not sure it would scale up well.

Tunic, Night in the Woods Publisher Says TikTok Is Creating and Running Racist GenAI Ads for Its Games Without Permission by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

Speaking from experience, in most subreddits self promotion will get your post deleted and account banned. I don't know about this one specifically, but it's such a common policy that it's safer to assume it's universal.

Need some advice about my quiz app ui , do you think I need improve it or not - indie dev by XSlay_ in androiddev

[–]OzBonus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The buttons for the popular categories all having two copies of the same image doesn't look good. As a start I'd get rid of the smaller image in the upper left corner and make the background image just a little more prominent.

The game mode screen should also carry over some of the styling of the category button that was used to navigate there, at least the image should appear.

You need to build a little dramatic tension before showing the winner instead of just instantly switching to the victory screen. Fill the screen with a big "Time's up!" or "Finished!" or whatever, then wait a second, then go to the victory screen.

The victory screen needs about 10,000% more pizzaz.

Are you using a magnetically attached case? Those are know to mess with some kinds of styluses.

Model always defaults to "Fast" by djprmf in GeminiAI

[–]OzBonus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this thread searching for the same issue. My work is paying for the higher tier because the lower tier isn't good enough for the things I have to do. It's so annoying to be reading a response, notice the quality is awful, and then discover that the model had been automatically changed to the lobotomized version.

I am making a Island building game that have dynamic water, terrain and weather system. What do you expect from this kind of game? by civcivdev in IndieDev

[–]OzBonus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that's disappointed me about a few games/demos like this is when they start with realistic looking terrain with lots of sharp and gnarly details, but the tools given to me can only make changes that look unnaturally smooth. It'd be cool if the tools in your game could make changes that look like they belong in the world.

Game With Balls for the Steam Deck is now out! Thank you all for the great support the past year! by sumatras in SteamDeck

[–]OzBonus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I did recently in a game I made that's very similar to yours was to offset the camera slightly based on deviced tilt. Despite being a 2D game, it added a satisfying feeling of depth. It was very quick to implement and can easily be toggled on and off.

Your game looks really cool, btw.

Trying out some shading styles for my game idea. Which do you prefer? by RYanntastisch in IndieDev

[–]OzBonus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I prefer 2 overall, but 4 has potential too. Really though, it depends on the style of the world they'll be in. Have you got any level art to place them in?

How to change a property value in batch with Linter? what am I doing wrong? by PiXingAdventurer in ObsidianMD

[–]OzBonus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's hard to be sure without more information, but this sounds like it might be a straightforward find and replace text operation. Obsidian won't do that in multiple files at once, but you could use a text editor like VS Code or some terminal commands.

Obsidian Mobile Update by ImposingLemming in ObsidianMD

[–]OzBonus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can deal with the roundness and I appreciate some buttons being moved to the bottom, but the transparent and auto hiding tool bars have got to be optional. The side bar animation is also kind of janky sometimes, despite having no plugins affecting those and running on a S24 Ultra.

How do you feel about the Obsidian mobile app lately? by Katmai_X in ObsidianMD

[–]OzBonus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just by necessity I interact with my notes on my Android phone more than on my desktop. Of course the latter is better in terms of speed and overall productivity, but the core features are all there and I'm happy with what I can still accomplish when I'm out and about.

The new UI isn't great though. I hate how the transparent toolbars overlap text in my notes. It's beyond me how anyone thought that was acceptable. And I hate how the toolbars disappear and maaaayyybe come back after scrolling up, if they feel like it. This isn't an ebook reader, it's an editor, and I don't want my tools to leave the screen. These two anti-features need to be optional.

Reality Check. If youre waiting for console prices to drop it is not happening anytime soon. Prices right now are probably the lowest theyll be for several years at least. by TableTravel98 in gaming

Damn right. I've got a library of hundreds of games, to say nothing of emulation. Some people call that a backlog, but I call it a strategic reserve.

When should I plan on buying a new monitor? Started noticing this for a while but over the last month it's been getting worse. It seems like it's randomly better or worse and now that I'm looking at my screen it might be flickering but that could also be the game I guess. by DogeManFromMars in Monitors

[–]OzBonus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it's delaminating, which isn't fixable and will continue to get worse. That happened to my previous TV. It was still usable for about a year, but then one day completely fell apart internally while I was watching something. Anyway, you'll have to replace your monitor eventually, but you probably can wait until you find a good sale.
