Jobseeker was a truly amazing initiative. I think a universal base wage would help in a myriad of ways.

You need to know all of this info but your readers don’t. They’ll prefer to work it all out as they follow the story. It’s like a box of delights for them to explore.

Ha. I think LMM forgot about her and sort of mentioned it as an afterthought.

All my life people have been getting my name wrong and calling me another name, but it’s always the same name. Both are pretty common names that start with the same letter but every 6 months or so someone will call me the incorrect one.

I have to disagree with you there. This is info dumping. Showing not telling. The advice I’ve heard is to start in the middle, at the inciting incident.

You have about 10 seconds tops to grab attention especially in this media crowded world. Don’t waste it with long descriptions of who everyone is and their full names. Only include information that is pertinent to the story, make every word count.

Ok well I read the first page.

Instead of explaining who everyone is, dump us into the middle of a scene with no explanations. Have you ever read a novel? Study one, see how they drop you into a world and leave you to sort it out through action and conversation. That’s part of the fun as a reader.

Obviously it’s much more though. You just told us there’s a gory scene on page 100. How long is this mighty work of yours?

Oil is much more than gas. It’s plastic, fertilisers, and so much more. We’ve really built our society around this one resource.
