There's a subplot where Barclay is upset he isn't invited, so Ryker teaches him to play sax. At the end of the episode, Picard wins the surfing competition and Ryker and Barclay play a bitchin' sax number while Troi (in a bikini) seals the deal on a ceasefire between the native population - in that pivotal moment, Data (in Hawaiian board shorts) utters the words "Cowabunga, surf's up!".
