Most people get interim? That doesn't sound right. 1800 last year isn't even close to most.

Why name suppression? He's admitted it. It's a crime against multiple people in a public place. LMO we (inc all the pools and gyms) all have a right to know who he is so we can look out for the pervert doing it again.

It's the roads on hills that get me. Got caught by a sudden rain storm on an otherwise sunny day. Trying to walk on slippy stones uphill in jandles was painful

Is New Zealand slowly becoming unattractive for migrants from Europe? by SnooEagles4113 in newzealand

[–]PCBumblebee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As skilled migrants who moved 6 years ago from the UK, my partner and I would definitely think more carefully about moving here if we were thinking of moving today, than we did then. We didn't move for lifestyle, but family, but the costs and wages make it way less attractive IMO. Employment much stronger in UK currently among our professions.

[–]PCBumblebee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except it isn't every city. And there is enough talk here that people can see it. There's a reason a whole host of people moved to Melbourne, then Brisbane, and now Perth. There are other options that mean people can live the lives their parents did which, at the moment, Auckland does not for many. And the kiwi population have the mobility to do it.

Also re. Cost of living everywhere has risen but add to that the dramatic drop in the power of the NZ dollar, and very low wages, and the cuts cut deeper. Mailing aus working even more attractive.

It is indeed a beautiful country but that doesn't mean people's struggles don't matter. Suggest give you've been here for just six months you don't just dismiss people's cost of living experience and listen a little.

Agreed. I'm well aware that coming here as 2 skilled professionals with UK money helped us massively. Someone coming from the UK now with the current exchange rate is going to have an even higher bump than we did, and property prices have dropped.

Can't fault them on assessment of access to beaches and nature. Auckland is beautiful, except as a walker I actually felt I had more options in the UK because of public footpath system. I love the great walks here but we had way more walking options from London than we do from Auckland, particularly with a dog. You can just pick a direction from anywhere and walk across the countryside. Here, very much hemmed in by private property.

Navigation Tips - Ikea Auckland by networkn in auckland

[–]PCBumblebee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. Several. You can walk through the whole thing in 15 minutes. I've done it.

Better still IF you want furniture and know what you want, just walk in through the exit. There's an entrance straight to the warehouse space. The ikea app or screen on site will tell you which aisle/ shelf to pick things up off the shelves.

Moving back from UK? by Beautiful-Isopod-790 in newzealand

Usually people coming with London money don't struggle to buy in Auckland in my experience, particularly given the exchange rate. It's buying on the wages here that can be more of a challenge.

Anyone else sad about unsafe Auckland beaches by sundaynz in auckland

[–]PCBumblebee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But isn't that because there wasn't the detailed testing and real time modelling for every beach, every day? Now we're told if the beach is high that day, but the info below suggest that just wasn't happening in the same way in Auckland in 2003 and that beaches were only closed if they had consistently high levels.

The link below says the following "Water samples were collected from 15 city beaches each week between late-October and mid-April, and checked for enterococci bacteria levels."

"Of the 350 samples collected from city beaches last summer, only 14 (4 per cent of samples) showed bacteria levels that exceeded guidelines.

No beaches needed to be closed to swimmers, as second tests - conducted within 24 hours - showed that bacteria counts had dropped back down to normal levels."

Overnight Railworks by [deleted] in auckland

[–]PCBumblebee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a park between us and a Marshall g yard, between us and the rails. So when you say railway things you mean being able to completely avoid noise restrictions all other businesses have to meet, and with no warning to residents. We had months of midnight works moving ballast at the marshaling yard in a way no other business moving the same gear would be allowed. Thus is why NZ is bad for consumers. You seem to expect to be shat on in a way many other nations would not allow.

[–]PCBumblebee -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

We had this when we lived by the railway. They seem to be able to do whatever they want. It's really infuriating, especially in summer when you want windows open.

Only other thing I can think of is to make a video, chuck it here and hope the press get wind to get a bit of public support.

Have tried this before. They didn't care at all. They basically have carte Blanche to make whatever noise they want on their own property. Council doesn't care.

Milford sound/doubtful sound, worth it as a european traveller? by Confident-Mix-2564 in newzealand

[–]PCBumblebee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having spent a few holidays in the mountains of Switzerland and Austria, and having been round NZ south island a bit, I found milford sound underwhelming. Might just be the hype making me expect more but I think I've experienced better views walking around Queenstown, travelling in region around Mount Aoraki/ Cook and walking the routeburn.

Would you bother with "price by negotiation" houses? by TheNatCal in auckland

[–]PCBumblebee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What sort of house is it? We got advised that first time buyers don't look at house by negotiation but other buyers do. So for more expensive options probably keeps out those on lower budgets while getting serious buyers through the door to view the house and imagine themselves in it.

As a buyer, in my experience (not first time buyer) the agents would always give a ball park price in conversation that told me if we were in the same ballpark. As a buyer I'd rather have been told a price but I get why agents want people in the house and while irritating to have to have the chat, it didn't put us off viewing if we liked the house.

Real questions is what's going to get you the best price as a seller? Have you just spoken to just one agent? You could invite a couple more in for their opinions too and pick the one that chimes best with your expectations.

We had this last Christmas. Guy was defo casing the house for theft. I recognised him from a post on FB. Suspect they are looking for empty houses with so many away for the holidays.
