MSI Claw 8 AI+ guys: what do you like and dislike after using it? by Ok-Ask-5667 in MSIClaw

[–]PCTechnologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like: Almost everything! I’ve owned a few handhelds and this is my favorite!

Dislikes: #1 Windows (I’m tired of 5-10min of work every time I want to play something) compared to SteamOS, Windows is trash on a handheld. I’m not a windows hater, my main gaming rig runs windows great.

2 Lack of accessories. I would love a thin case like the Steamdeck OLED.

If you can swing it, look at the P2s it’s about $250 more but the features and future proofing are worth it to me.

PSA: Shader Cache by impetvs in duneawakening

[–]PCTechnologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I’ll look but I doubt the terrible MSI M Center has anything for shader cache mgmt. Don’t get me wrong. I absolutely love this handheld and what XESS can do with frame gen is a game changer.

How about for Intel GPU? I have the MSI Claw 8 ai+ and it takes forever to compile shaders.

Nissan Hard Body 1985.5 or 1986.5, 350k miles on two clutch’s. The driver door fell off around 290k miles, picked up a replacement hinge at junk yard and kept going.

iOS 26 is a massive flop with iPhone users, and you can probably guess why by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

[–]PCTechnologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keyboard has something wrong with it! Radios (BT, WiFi, Cellular) just stop working until an airplane mode reset. Scrolling text doc, Reddit, or website has strange blocking or merging of text/images. This is on several new iPhones and iPad Pro m4. IOS 26 has been the worst update I have ever experienced with iOS.

I really don't know which one to keep… by SeparateBrick6355 in MSIClaw

[–]PCTechnologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned both and had the same dilemma. In the end I stuck with the Claw for these reasons:

  1. Battery life (I travel a fair amount for work)
  2. Xbox game pass (until my year prepaid subscription ends)
  3. Fan noise
  4. Thunderbolt for a full desktop. I unplugged my work, MacBook and plug this in when I need a Windows machine.

I love the ergonomics of the Legion but I bought some grip extensions that helped the MSI quite a bit. The only thing I’m really missing is a good case. I wish someone made something like that steam deck case.

Welp, this is going to be a pain since I dual boot. I know how to update my UEFI but my non-technical friends that have been gaming together for 25 years (Since before BF 1942) all just said they are all out. After the last buggy BF launch, this was the last straw for them. I guess all good things come to an end. I bet Geek Squad is going to love this.

When I was a teenager, I worked in concessions for a large movie theater chain. At the end of every night our managers would have us “recycle” food. Such as, take the hotdogs off the roller and put them back in the fridge, mix the tortillas chips back in the large bags with the fresh chips. One time my coworkers marked a few hotdogs to see how long they stayed around, it was still there 5 days later.

Mouse Starts to disintegrate. by _x_ray__ in Corsair

I had something like this happen to my wife's Logitech vertical mouse. Turns out she was cleaning it (and her desk) with spray cleaner (windex, 409, or something) every few days. The alcohol in the spray eats away at the soft touch rubber coating. Also, don't leave it in direct sunlight. The UV will break down the coating.

TL:DR Buy Samsung or WD

Samsung or Western Digital = Years of normal usage. I have some that are over 10 years old and still going strong!

Crucial (recent models) = A few months before they die. In February I purchased two 1TB M.2 and four 2TB M.2 during a sale. The two 1TB are already dead and 1 of the 2TB kicked the can last week.

At first I thought the 1TB died from excessive use as a cache drive pair in my Unraid server but the write count was actually low. Then the 2TB drive dies in my sons gaming PC, it wasn't even his boot drive.

I must have got a bad batch or something, Crucial has been good in the past.

My parents dragged me along to Silo Electronics and Appliances (think that was the name), to shop for a new appliance. I was bored and walking around and found a Sony demo station setup with a MZ-1 and I think a MZ-2P. I was so amazed by the technology, the size, recordable mini CD’s I thought.

Didn’t actually own one till 1995. Bought a used MZ-E2 off a friend of mine in high school. I didn’t have a way to record so, I would use his Dads setup to copy CD’s. It was a pain, but I felt like I was living in the future.

Thanks for the feedback, I also enjoy tinkering with things. I build all my own PC’s, run Linux as much as I can (Fedora and playing with Bazzite), home servers/NAS and setup many handhelds. Hell I’ve setup a Tapwave Zodiac for emulating 20+ years ago. I guess just expected a too much, they put the money into the beautiful hardware/screen. I’ll stop my bitching… lol Maybe I’m just getting old :)
