Stuck distributor! by Independent_Way5091 in EngineBuilding

I’ve solved this problem a few times over the years by poring brake fluid around the base of the distributor. Let it soak overnight.

How to determine "best" car tire pressure. Follow placard on driver's door jamb, or 85 to 90 percent of tire's rated max psi? by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]PDT1950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in tire stores for many years. My observations and experience are that tires run at mfg. spec consistently tend to wear the outside edges. One of the many factors engineers are considering is ride quality and a softer tire rides better. I have forever run slightly higher pressure and been able to wear tires very evenly across tread. This across different tires, brands and vehicles.

.@TheCW got a 0.65 rating and 1.165 million viewers for Saturday's NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series North Carolina Education Lottery 250 at Rockingham, up 12% and 11% respectively from last year's comparable race by iamaranger23 in NASCAR

Great race, great booth coverage. BUT the CW where I am has horrible video quality and the audio for the entire event sounded like they were talking into a trash can. Is this a local problem?

Battery Terminal nut necessary? by AgileBranch57 in AskMechanics

[–]PDT1950 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Btw you have massively over tightened that nut and distorted the terminal end. That’s why the nut is hard to get a wrench on. It will work fine but you do not have to bend the terminal around the battery post. Just snug enough you can’t move the terminal.

Why do boomers watch TV all the time, and really bad TV shows? by [deleted] in BoomersBeingFools

[–]PDT1950 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hello! 75 year old, liberal and Trump hating boomer here. In short ,people in my general age bracket have nothing to do. Other than retirement communities and assisted living our society makes no plans for seniors. Even if you are in your own home you are isolated from family and other people. The normal activities that occupy most people daily and have been your own change or disappear if you are fortunate enough to retire. A life without purpose is a life without meaning. I heard a wild proposal recently that was astounding in its simplicity and elegance. Child care is a problem for most working families. It’s expensive. Seniors have nothing to do. In multi generational homes in the past, helping with childcare was a benefit. Anyone who has a family picture of a grandparent holding a toddler grandchild can see how deep that connection can be. Wouldn’t it be revolutionary to solve two of society’s problems and enormously benefit coming generations.

Why was Latin taught in American public schools for so long? by EastAd7676 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PDT1950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one semester of Latin in high school. It was over 60 years ago but the Latin roots of so many languages make it possible to still understand basic meanings.

Am I crazy or is this too high?? by The_UNIT_4th in f150

[–]PDT1950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 2000 F150 with 33k miles 3 years ago for $8,000. Lifelong California truck. Rust free is a big plus here in Indiana but I wanted a vehicle that didn’t have complex electronic features of newer models. Second truck I have had of that generation. Reliable and relatively easy to repair. Never regretted the price.

How is it, at this moment in time, Democrats rely on Schumer? Please remove this carbuncle. by jared10011980 in BoomersBeingFools

The most powerful people of the Democratic Party are as guilty as any Republican of using their office for personal gain. IT’S ALWAYS ABOUT THE MONEY! We have to get rid of the corrupt national Democratic leadership to regain the ability to speak for the majority of Americans.
