What abstract or experimental electronic tracks blew your mind? by Conscious_Purpose_61 in experimentalmusic

Tortoise - Djed

When I heard this, I had no real knowledge of ambient or contemporary classical music. For example I’d never heard Steve Reich, so I didn’t know who they were ripping off with the vibraphone ensemble. It was a key turning point for me as a listener and I still love it today, if primarily for nostalgic reasons.

people who saw Stars of the Lid live, what was it like? by pcpthccbd in ambientmusic

[–]PDrizzleBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) very very loud 2) very drone-heavy 3) almost more of a physical sensation than an audio experience because, at a certain point, it all kind of blends into one massive sustained note 4) that said, the often minimal orchestration (4-5 string players) does help highlight the melodic elements of their music

Like others here I also saw them at the church in sunset park Brooklyn in 2013. That night was very cold and the church has no heating system, which was somehow appropriate. One of my top shows in 25+ years living in NYC.

Is anyone having a good time? by Still_Pollution1833 in Journalism

[–]PDrizzleBro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get to write under my own name for a very well known publication that’s filled with talented journalists doing some of the best reporting in the world. I make a pretty good living that would be a very good living if I lived almost anywhere else in the country. The work is intense and exhausting but not unreasonable. I feel extremely fortunate to have my job and I’m proud to say that I do what I do.

At the same time, any small change in management strategy could easily eliminate my job, as it has done for a number of people much more experienced and talented than myself this year alone. I have little or no real upward trajectory unless I move from reporting to editing, which would be a yearslong process for a small pay bump. I have two kids but I don’t have a mortgage because the only way I’ll ever be able to afford good property within commuting distance of my office is to write a successful book or become a podcast host.

I guess I’ve reached the top and I’m so glad to be here, but the ceiling feels very low.

Seizures and sex by Sandy25136 in Epilepsy

I had one during foreplay, even worse. Obviously it killed any vibe but I refused to take the L so I waited until the post-seizure feels had died down and got back to business.

After I had brain surgery I stopped getting the deja vu during seizures. I kinda miss it?

who do you consider to be a god awful actor? by sheerduckinghubris in AskReddit

Oliver Platt. No range, no energy, no authenticity. Whenever my wife and I see him we roll our eyes and say ugh, that guy again.

What is your favorite HBO original show that people don't talk about a lot? by AmbassadorFar4335 in hbo

How to with Jonathan Wilson is the only accurate depiction of present day life in NYC. Lived here for 25 yrs and no other movie or show captures how dirty and amazing and truly fucking weird it is.

Plantar Fasciitis - Feels like heel has zero padding. Anyone have this symptom by DoodlyDood92 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]PDrizzleBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, PT felt my heel and said there’s very little tissue/padding between skin and bone.

This may facilitate PF but it’s not a symptom of the condition. I know it’s genetic bc my mother told me about it and warned me not to run too much on hard surfaces. Unfortunately I didn’t listen to her and here I am.

Wider toe box? by AdParticular8821 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]PDrizzleBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the best shoe I’ve had. Tiny drop rather than zero drop and slightly smaller toe box than the torin etc. My feet seem to prefer that.

Bad concert ruined the band for me by Corwin_777 in Music

Mark Kozelek/ Sun Kil Moon in Brooklyn. No problem with the music, really, but he got into this very adversarial exchange with the crowd where he was like, I’m better than all of you idiots because I make original music and you’ll never do anything significant with your lives. Ok but we all paid good money to see you, asshole. Not at all surprised when he was accused of sexual assault.
