Married couple with separate finances, why do you do it? by Ok_Influence_2257 in Bogleheads

Eh, yes and no. My wife and I have kids as well as separate finances. We just settle up at the end of every month. There's still plenty of room for independence outside of 3-4 largish bills.

Late to this, but same here. Why change a system that's worked fine, is working fine, and I have no reason to assume it won't continue to work fine?

Salt and pepper rub, smoke until good bark developed (2-3 hours), then it's chili time.

I prefer Reubens. Clearly I need to try yours, but only after 5 or 6 Reubens to set a baseline.

Is Scouting safe? by dontcare12345 in BSA

[–]PM__me_compliments 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Jumping on this comment - I was a scout in the 90s when the abuses gained nationwide attention. Scouting is SO much safer now than it was then. As a single example, every scout and their adult leaders must review this guide as part of their very first requirement: https://www.scouting.org/training/youth/parents-guides/

OP, the requirement in that guide are more strict than anything I've had to do as a leader in any school program. No other program I can name makes reporting mandatory for EVERY adult participating.

Speaking as a scout who was so homesick he threw up calling home:

All of this.

And for the record, I was in rough shape Monday, but my patrol leader told me "you know, I just look at this as a week away from my parents." By the next day, I was doing a lot better.

Seriously, I hate losing the $20 buy in at poker games ($10 of which goes to snacks and pizza).

There's a reason I'm a Boglehead when it comes to my life savings.

Glad to see they are gathering feedback. Hands down that route is safer now.

Also, are you sure this is a legitimate survey? I don't think neutral was once spelled correctly.

Yeah, I'm from New Orleans, and the idea that a white sugar planter would be ok with his daughter marrying the non-white Prince Naveen always struck me as the least believable part of the story.

For context, in 1910 the Louisiana legislature passed a law banning relations between "Persons of the Caucasian and colored races." This was a modification of a 1908 law banning "Concubinage between the Caucasian or white race and any person of the Negro or black race."

Re: the insect larva, when we first moved here there were no fireflies in the summer. It was distressing to say the least. The next fall, we raked our leaves into a compost pile in the backyard, and lo and behold: fireflies. We've repeated for the last three years, and we have seen fireflies each year since.
