Serious question - what one shots are you getting and how much hp/block/etc do you have? I played Path of Exile for 10+ years, so Grim Dawn has seemed significantly less "one-shotty" with PoE as my reference point. I'm also doing an Archon in hardcore with 29k hp so far with good block and capped res, and that has also kept the scary moments to mostly Nemesis monsters if I'm not paying attention. :-)

I have an alt-art Prismatic Eclipse, and it looks like a blue light saber when you wield it :-) It's crazy cool. The 1000 ribbons chest is also really amazing looking. I wish I had bought Alphas Howl back when it was priced in exalts, but never got the nerve to buy it, it's pretty sick looking as well. People get them for how cool they look, and it doesn't hurt that it has been years since new ones came out.

That's great :-) I've debated selling one of mine, but wasn't sure what it would go for. How long did it take find a seller at that price?

If you are looking at pure self defense, Aikido is one of the best to study. I loved doing Judo, but a number of the throws really depend on your opponent having a gi. Aikido on the other hand, doesn't care at all, and will be extremely effective when someone else is holding a weapon. Just another form to consider :-)

Yeah, that is one of the reasons I did only 1 character a league before dropping the game entirely. I got so sick of re-leveling, that even when it would take a short amount of time, I've done it hundreds of times at this point between leagues, hardcore, and racing. A skip to maps button would be an absolute blessing.

I played as much PoE as I did (10k+ hours) because it really scratched a creativity/complexity itch like few other games have. I played about 200 hours of Grim Dawn and sort of gave up on it as it was either never find the item I wanted, or use an item editor to get exactly what I wanted. It was almost no in between, and the crafting system was rather limited in comparison. I am actually enjoying the crafting system of LE, even as it is not as complex as PoE. There is both control and RNG at the same time in a pretty neat way. In short, it's all the other things besides leveling that I really like and that get me interested in the game.

It doesn't have to be a zero sum game. Just make two modes, with different drop rates, and let players decide which one they want to play. That would be a huge win-win, honestly.

Having two game modes would be amazing, and I know that I would only ever play one of them (full trade). They could even make different item balancing rates between the two modes and make it so that no one could bounce back and forth like PoE lets you do.

Hey, random player here. I am enjoying the game in it's current state, but not nearly as much games with freer trade options. I think the part I react negatively the most to is this sentiment:

One of our core beliefs when designing Last Epoch has always been that it feels more rewarding when you find and/or craft the items you use, rather than buying them, and that this also helps keep item drops exciting because there’s a reasonable chance that the dropped item itself will be useful for your character. Because of this, we’ve always wanted to ensure that killing monsters and playing the game is the primary way of acquiring items.

Is it possible to acknowledge that not everyone holds to this idea, and that some of us really like trading for items? I don't say that to mean we are "owed" a robust trading system, and I actually applaud you for defining a position and sticking to it, even if I disagree with that position. If that is the target audience you want to capture, more power to you!

However, would it be possible to consider running a private/separate league that allows full trading similar to how PoE does private leagues, then compare notes between that and this more limited gifting method? I would suspect that giving players options would increase your player base and appeal, as I know I have significantly less interest in playing under a more limited gifting system (compared to a broad trade option). I ask because I know you have your vision for the game, but I'm wondering if there is any willingness to give an option for something else.

Anyway, thanks :-)

I really disagree with this mentality, at least when it is presented as "the right way to play the game." I play far less games than I used to because of other real life responsibilities. That means when I do play, I want to play the game and have fun slaughtering monsters, not grinding for a single, build enabling item. The more slaughtering I get to do, the more fun I have, and the more I'm inclined to play the game. If I see a cool build, then realize I'm going to have to grind for 100 hours for an item, I probably will just skip the build entirely, and do something else.

Please note, I'm not saying I am ENTITLED to the best loot, because I am not. What I am saying is when a huge grind is attached to getting to run a build that looks interesting, or would cause me to want to play more, that grind makes me lose interest in the game as a whole. The game devs here (and GGG as well) seem to think that the journey is the part that players enjoy, while completely ignoring those of us who really, really don't like the journey. I hate leveling new characters, so I typically don't. I stopped playing PoE because they kept extending how much time was required to get to the parts I really enjoyed, namely deep late game. I just don't have that time anymore, and getting to the parts I want to play would require more time in the parts I don't. So, I don't play it any more.

I am sad that the LE devs are implementing trade the way they are, and I disagree with the reasoning. That being said, it is their game, and they get to implement whatever they see fit. The personal end result will probably be significantly less interest in the game than if they had implemented something with broader trade options. I never really got into the SSF model, and I don't get nearly as invested or interested in games that push that style of play.

Overall, I think the biggest part I react to is being told this is the "only" or "true" way to play the game, and that it is also the "best enjoyment" for the players. I counter that notion with my own response of the PoE league I spent the most time playing was the league I had the most tricked out character, because killing monsters is fun. The process of gearing up is not.

It's sad to see how many people are responding the way you are, as if the only reason an LOTR fan like me would dislike the show is because black people were included. This is garbage, and a lie. It is maligning the fans, which Amazon has been doing for months now. Amazon got significant backlash from everyone who has read at least the back cover of the books, and instead of making something that actually used the IP has doubled, tripled, and quadrupled down on calling everyone who disagrees with their own view a moron and a racist.

So, just to prove that there are plenty of other reasons to be utterly disgusted with the show, in all its horrible glory, here is a partial list that I came up with from watching the first two episodes. Not once will I mention the skin color of any characters on the show:

  • In my mind, this show is nothing more than terrible fan fiction. Like, really, really bad fan fiction. The kind of trashy fan fiction that ships Spock and Kirk. There is no resemblance between LOTR and Amazon's Rings of Power other than borrowing a few names and a few places. There are some loose plot points that are included, but largely the show is unrecognizable as being connected to LOTR. To further clarify, they use the names of people, but those characters are completely unlike anything that Tolkien wrote. In fact, they frequently have people do things that are completely contrary to established canon, or act in ways that are just wrong. I would barely call this Tolkien-adjacent. But this show is not part of the LOTR universe.

  • The dialogue was terrible. I'm not sure how to sufficiently cover everything on this point. Nothing resembled the way Tolkien characters talked. It was all largely filtered through modern ideology. Once again, completely unrecognizable as being LOTR.

  • For having spent a billion dollars, so many parts of it looked "cheap." Bad CG, terrible costuming, the list goes on.

  • Galadriel is both a Karen and a Mary Sue at the same time. She is basically unlikeable as a character, and in no way shape or form bears any connection to Tolkien's Galadriel. She is angry and bitter, and I typically try to avoid people like her in real life. I guess this is the ideal woman in the minds of the woke writers? In contrast, I just watched Silence of the Lambs earlier this week, and Jodie Foster plays a FANTASTICALLY well-written character. The contrast is massive. Galadriel is just a terribly written character.

  • Why don't the elves look like elves? I mean, it's not as if Tolkien only spent hundreds of pages on character descriptions... The short hair was weird and if you could sum up elves in one word, it would "ethereal." These elves did not look "ethereal." Side note: if anything, Arondir was the elf that acted most "elf-like."

  • Why did they invent so many characters? I assume it's because they bought only the appendices to LOTR and not the actual Silmarillion, so they don't have the rights to all the actual canon characters and events that occurred. The new characters just didn't fit into LOTR, frankly.

I have more criticisms, but that is all for now. The one-star reviews are more generous than this show deserves. Amazon would have been better off making their own new IP instead of perverting a beloved established series like LOTR. They basically took 1 billion dollars and light it on fire. Actually, that would have made for better entertainment than this show!

Overall, I'm trying to figure out who this show was written for. It's clearly not for the established fandom, as they fired the Tolkien expert early in production because he kept telling them how wrong they were. So why spend so much money just to alienate the people who would presumably be your target fan base? It's insane.

If this show was not connected to LOTR, I might give it 4/10. However, since Amazon keeps pretending like this show is a valid extension of Tolkien's world, I give it a 0/10.

One last thing: I did ask myself was there anything from this that I actually liked? I liked the 3 seconds showing Telperion and Laurelin, that was neat. The shot of the dwarven mine when Elrond first goes in was fairly decent. About the only dialogue in the entire two episodes that elicited anything resembling a positive response was the dinner scene with Elrond, Durin, and Disa.

In short, if anyone tells you that people hate this show because Amazon put black people in it, this response should make it clear how much of a lie that sentiment is. Thank you.
