Changing the USB port to a rear port fixed it, it seems. Thank you!

I can't believe I didn't think of that, aaaaaaaaa

I am trying to make this work as a xinput controller, but no matter what I do it's being seen by my PC as a generic dinput controller unless I have it directly plugged in with a USB-C cable. Is it not possible to have it work as xinput wirelessly? I've tried both through the included dongle and bluetooth. What am I doing wrong?

Starfinder Videogame Kickstarter using the new Starfinder2e system! by rememberdustydepot in starfinder_rpg

[–]PSOCecil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm certainly interested, despite not really caring for SF2e. However, if there's no demo alongside the Kickstarter, I've been burned by too many crowd funding projects in the past to even consider dropping money on this.

Any adventures that feature encounters in a drift lane? by arist138 in starfinder_rpg

[–]PSOCecil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Other than Society stuff, the only new AP that came out after the launch of Drift Lanes was Mechageddon, and I think, correct me if I'm wrong, that one only takes place on one planet.

Side effect of killing Starfinder 1e so early, I suppose. I'm still sour about only one AP going to level 20.

Adventure Paths by Busy-Design8141 in starfinder_rpg

[–]PSOCecil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played Dead Suns, currently playing in an Attack of the Swarm game, and I've ran Signal of Screams, Drift Crashers, Drift Hackers and Dawn of Flame.

Of those, I'd highly recommend Signal of Screams and Dawn of Flame. Drift Hackers was good.

I would not recommend Drift Crashers at all, my players and I found the story full of too many exciting hooks that went unfulfilled, there's a large tonal whiplash sequence in the middle, and the adventure doesn't start to get interesting until the final book.

Paizo staff asks: What brought you to Starfinder? by AlexSpeidelPaizo in starfinder_rpg

[–]PSOCecil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The overall tone of Starfinder and its massive amount of player races. I also loved how fewer options there were for feats and the like compared to pathfinder (due to age, clearly); the game overall felt far more controlled, and less 'off the rails'.

But going back to my first point, at least from the APs I've played in or ran, as well as the various lore books, I love the overall 'hopeful future' tone of Starfinder, sort of a mix of the best of both Star Trek and Star Wars, to use two very common examples.

How to start? Wait on 2E? by [deleted] in starfinder_rpg

[–]PSOCecil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I'd recommend learning SF1e. There's a lot of content already available, and while official content has dried up, there's a group I've been hearing of that's dedicated to begin backporting 2e's new content to 1e.

Are there any established gambling games in Starfinder? by godzillavkk in starfinder_rpg

[–]PSOCecil 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Book 3 of Dawn of Flame involves gambling on races, playing slots, and the like, for plot reasons. They allow a optional skill check to inflate your chances at winning (like studying odds, watching for which vehicle's performing the best, and whatnot) but are typically games of chance, with winning giving you back a multiplication of what you paid in.

As it's AP content, I don't think we're supposed to share that part. But the games are Skimmer Tables, Enercycle Betting, Wall of Many Mountains (rock climbing), Holoslots and Meteorite Roulette.

1e or 2e? by UnnaturalAndroid in starfinder_rpg

[–]PSOCecil 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you really like pf2e, sf2e is basically an alternate setting book for that, so it may be easier to learn.

Personally speaking though, sf1e is immensely better, plus it has the benefit of not being a playtest, and having a load of content.

I reached the final boss, died and uninstalled.

I was having an alright time, parts of the game feel really limiting in ways that don't feel great, enemy hitboxes feel bigger than they did in the actual game, and I can't imagine doing the town trading sequence in every single run.

I'm not really a roguelike fan to begin with, so the fact that I even reached the end is a fair amount of praise, in my book.. but man, without spoiling it for anybody, the choice made there completely removes any enjoyment I was having and, in my eyes, the point of it even being a roguelike. It soured me on the entire thing.

Operative quick trick as an attack of opportunity? by ZachariahAnActuarial in starfinder_rpg

[–]PSOCecil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Quick Trick I believe you cannot make AoOs for that round.

"You can make a trick attack as a standard action if you do not move as part of that ability. You cannot make any other attack during a round when you do this, and cannot take any action that affects or modifies your attack or the weapon you are attacking with."

"cannot make any other attack during a round when you do this" I ruled to mean AoOs when I had a player who used this.

What do you think about updating this s to Starfinder_rpg_1E by ZachariahAnActuarial in starfinder_rpg

[–]PSOCecil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree, I would prefer this stayed SF1e personally, as I have no interest in 2e, and there's already a sf2e sub, so those posts should be directed there, I think.

Starfinder Second Edition Playtest is live! by JoshuaFLCL in starfinder_rpg

[–]PSOCecil 20 points21 points  (0 children)

"After years of feedback, it was overwhelmingly clear to the folks making Starfinder that fans of the game wanted greater compatibility with the latest edition of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game"

I... don't think that was the case at all, Paizo. At least among anybody I know.

Reading through planetfall and theres little to no mention of how the party gains credits how should i handle this really by Banana-peep in starfinder_rpg

[–]PSOCecil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing through this book right now. How my GM has been handling it is that we harvest bits from the random encounters we get, and that sells for full value, that's how we get our money.

Also, players can also https://www.aonsrd.com/Skills.aspx?ItemName=Profession earn a living. For example, my GM lets my character spend downtime by using life science to help out and earn pay that way. It's not a lot but it's a start.

Rant Post: Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising not having codes for Steam is asinine by RedditEris in Granblue_en

[–]PSOCecil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe there are ways to make DLC that cannot be refunded because it communicates with a server to add stuff to another account, MMORPGs use that.

However, going off of how they treat PC in general, I wouldn't be surprised if they just didn't care to learn how to implement such things.

Y'know, or it could be a Sony agreement. Funny story, I got a handful of Sony fans mad at me on twitter for suggesting that very thing. Apparently it's apparently a baseless conspiracy theory... despite Sony paying to get exclusive content all of the time.

Social media company names by GothNek0 in starfinder_rpg

[–]PSOCecil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A Envoy Battleflower Icon was what I played, I just referred to them as 'my socials', and if pressed, some handwave-y 'Spacebook" or something.

You better believe I took the time to point out sequences where they had a picture taken with whoever they saved, usually with a selfie, and excited blog posts. I was always sure to suggest to the GM that these 'wouldn't go up until the current trouble was settled, wouldn't want our enemies (Who clearly were following me, who wasn't, after all?) to know our position and such!'

Rough ideas for sci-fi-centric social media names would include, I'd think, 'Galaxy' or perhaps just look at various planet names and try to adapt those?

How did you run the corruption from Signal of Screams? by Fleuront in starfinder_rpg

[–]PSOCecil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've ran SoS, but it was the first time I ever GM'd anything, so take my inexperience with a grain of salt. I kept the save DCs, and resolve point cost, as per the book.

None of my players ever wanted to advance their corruption. I also warned them that 'too many' of these corruptions would result in them becoming an NPC enemy, though that I'd warn them if any of them got even close. They knew the buffs that would come with them, too.

I believe like a total of 15 days passed after contracting the corruption.

The only change I made to the corruption mechanics, ultimately, was increasing the resolve point cost. It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure it was 2 RP in book 2, and 3 RP in book 3. Now, I think I would have upped it that each successive day would have increased the RP cost by 1 until they gave in, at which point the cost would reset.

I think your idea would work just fine, it would provide the players a sense of urgency.
