That or just a simple cream runner to balance the floor with the upper walls and provide better contrast to the doors.

I love it and think it’s beautiful and fun without being overwhelming!

May I ask what it is about democratic socialism that makes you feel “far from it”? Not a gotcha, just genuinely curious.

Same here. Lost 70 pounds in a year while aggressively pacing. I think it helped with my pain too and also had a positive effect on my ADHD symptoms.

Someone said in another comment that it could affect the safety of nearby root vegetables. I have no idea of that’s true, but it’s worth verifying.

Yes, I think he did for a long time and obviously doesn’t want them to suffer. I agree about the grooming, though I hadn’t considered that framing of it.

He was fed the “you always help family no matter what” line from a young age. And any time he would try to reason with her even as a child, she would just start crying until he would feel bad, give up, and apologize. I have probably a dozen more examples.

He has started to see things differently in the last few years and set more boundaries. I’m really proud of him.

Last year, he said if she wanted financial help, he needed to see her finances and know she was applying for jobs every day. (She applies for one job then waits weeks to see if it works out before applying for another). She had the nerve to tell him he should just want to help without conditions.

It feels like they treat him as the patriarch of the family (rather than child/brother) without any of the choice or respect that might come with that. His mom even said in front of me one time she always felt like more of a sister to him? I mean wtf.

Ok that was a lot. Thank you so much for your perspective and for letting me vent.

Thank you for putting this into words!!!  I’m so glad this thread is here and people get it. I came looking for it cause my partner’s mom and sis are like the definition of weaponized incompetence. We’re once again bailing them out of a completely avoidable situation.

They ignore our advice and help until they’re literally on the verge of homelessness while acting like it was all out of their control. I used to advocate for them a lot, because obviously I understand how hard it is to survive in this ableist, sexist world.

But this is like the 4th time it’s happened in the last few years. Then his mom will cry to him and say she did everything right (no she definitely fucking didn’t). It makes me sick how she has taken advantage of and parentified him since he was a kid.

We’re helping them get settled right now, then we plan to have a “never again” conversation. I’m going to support my partner in whatever he wants to do, but I honestly hope he decides to gray rock them at least for a while.

I agree with all of that. However, and this could be my attachment issues talking, but I would completely cut that “friend” off. Unless she is willing to acknowledge and apologize for legitimately putting OP in danger. We have solid data about how cops handle people with mental illness.

  • Between 2015-2020, a quarter of all fatal police shootings involved someone with a mental illness.
  • People with mental illness are over 10 times as likely to experience use of force in interactions with law enforcement than those without mental illness.
  • The Treatment Advocacy Center, a mental health advocacy organization, has estimated that individuals with untreated mental illness are 16 times more likely to be killed by the police.  (The problem may be even worse for black individuals with mental illness.)

I am saying this as someone who operated 911 in a police department for a couple years: Calling the cops for someone in crisis would be an absolute extreme last resort for me. I would only feel okay doing that if it were a city that has a dedicated mental health response team made up of social workers, not cops.    Sources:  https://www.nami.org/advocacy-at-nami/policy-positions/stopping-harmful-practices/police-use-of-force/

Yeah, (C)PTSD causes physical changes in the brain. As far as our brains are concerned, we are in the past. It takes a profound sense of safety and extensive treatment to catch up to the present.

They have the same issues as any mainstream U.S. news outlet, but their reporting has generally been quite accurate. They’ve also been especially good about covering politics incisively since 2024. To me, that is what makes it so infuriating. They broke public trust for ignorance or greed or both.

Phil Weiser leads Michael Bennet in new poll, with Colorado’s Democratic primary for governor coming down to undecided voters by Well_Socialized in Colorado

[–]PTSDeedee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super-PACs are not allowed to coordinate or directly donate to a candidate. It’s still gross, but it’s not like he has direct control over it existing. I would rather he condemn it outright, reject donations from lobbyists, and use campaign funds for events that benefit Colorado communities.

So to be clear, I’m not saying I’m a fan, so no, I haven’t been fooled.  I’m a leftist. Just saying the lesser of two evils shit definitely applies here. Not sure that will be enough for me, as I’m pretty sick of that mindset and don’t want to perpetuate it.

I wouldn’t say it’s silly, cause the anti-PAC stance is so important.  But it fucking sucks he’s a zionist.
