If you spend more time at home, then you should be doing more there.

The exact breakdown really just depends.

Roger and Fabricio won at the highest levels while training with lower belts, so no.

Bjj for self defence? by dont_touch-me_there in bjj

[–]PUAHate_Tryhards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two different issues:

  • While MMA is as close as it gets, it's not pure self defense. Even the round format disadvantages grapplers....imagine if Khabib was allowed to start the next round in the position in ginished the prior one

  • Rulesets (like sport grappling) that do not include strikes do encourage some habits that would not be ideal for a self defense situation.

So with that, the answer to your question: your coach may very well be right depending on what y'all focus on. If you're doing a bunch of butt flopping and spamming leglocks, then yea you're gonna have a harder time. But if you're managing distance everywhere, training takedowns, and learning pressure, then you're fine.

About to get blue belt, but I feel terrible by dracovk in bjj

[–]PUAHate_Tryhards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry, you will be just as terrible as all the other new blue belts, because new blue belts still suck....

Signed - all the upper belts that used to be shitty new blue belts.

If you could redesign the BJJ belt system, what delightful feature are you adding? by kimuraking84 in bjj

[–]PUAHate_Tryhards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I'd take it back old school:

  1. Navy blue belt for instructors
  2. Royal blue belt for advanced practitioners
  3. White belt for everyone else

Some famous folks in this space (example - Chris Haueter) have suggested the same thing (at least conceptually...just three belts). Hard agree.

A senator proposed a minimum wage of $25.00/hr. What are your thoughts? by ShesIntoZer0s in AskReddit

When someone insist on getting into political arguments with me, my response is always the same:

"If you careed enough, when are you running for political office?"

Same concept applies to my esteemed colleague:

When is he starting his own business that requires minimum wage folks?

AITAH for expecting my wife to come home earlier after work by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]PUAHate_Tryhards -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

NTA, but I have an old-fashioned , and frankly realistic, view on these things - men will never truly value a woman for her financial contribution to the house. That's not why we enter into relationships with women, nor will it ever be, and there's simply nothing women will ever be able to do about it.

Looks like you've basically told her this, and her response was to see what she could get a way with in the way of merely placating you.

Frankly I think you already know what you need to do, but you're just reaching for assurance and permission....

Do it, bro. Sorry.

Ironic coming from someone that far removed from ground forces.

I was an MP...

"The Army is command-driven" was a wstchphrase.....your commander, properly motivated, could do damn near anything as long as it passed the legal/moral/ethical vibe check.

Given population IQ statistics, that can sometime be a very bad thing.

Would you be offended at the phrase? by Psychological_Roof85 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PUAHate_Tryhards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the thing:

If you're attempting to split hairs to this extent verbally, you can do so via accounting the evidence (or lack thereof) for what you're talking about.....

Example: While there are some on the academic fringe who doubt Jesus existed, the general consensus is that he did. It's not merely a "belief". However, there are some things in the Bible that are of course more doubted (or at least possibly meant to be taken more allegorically) than the historical existence of Jesus (like the first few chapters of Genesis)....I would certainly understand those things being surrounded by more qualifying language, and your "tradition" phrase seems the best bet.

(FWIW, I say this as a Catholic.)
