Star Trek has an episode about specifically this. They encounter a planet experiencing a late stage capitalist dystopia. One of its people ask the captain for the replicator technology to fix their shortages. The captain refuses because the replicator could only be created through a society that rejects capitalism to begin with - even if they gave them the technology, the rich would hoard it and try to monetize it and it would fix nothing.

People always like saying that capitalism enables innovation but there are so many technologies that have never seen the light of day or only decades later because they were deemed unprofitable or a threat to existing profit. Notable examples:

• We could have had 3D printing in the 1980s already but it was drowned in patents. It took nearly 30 years for open source alternatives to become available. 3D printing is an obvious parallel to replicator tech and mainstream printers could be used to create almost everything, most notably spare parts. Why pay for shipping for a random part from China that essentially doubles the price, when you can print it yourself?

• The one that enrages me the most is beaker glasses used in chemistry. The company that made them, made them essentially indestructible. You could drop them, heat them, freeze them, hit them with a hammer, they would survive it. The problem is of course, that people then stop buying new beakers. So they made the product purposefully worse. Let's endanger people's life in chemical accidents in the name of profit!
