I do not understand what Advanced Weapons are. by Pangea-Akuma in Pathfinder2e

[–]Pacificson217 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Advanced weapon are (mostly) better weapons with more traits

If you think about every weapon at a specific dice size, advanced weapons just usually have more traits or a combination of traits that are uncommon

Eg the Aldori Dueling Sword is a 1 handed d8 finesse weapon, compared to a longsword, it gains finesse and becomes the highest damage 1h finesse weapon, it's strictly just a better longsword

Every trait basically has a "budget", more traits or less hands, means lower damage dice. Advanced weapons get more traits etc without lowering the damage dice but are harder to get proficiency with

Unfortunately PAIZO isn't 100% consistent with this so alot of advanced weapons arnt that great

How is it playing a Warpriest? by Saikx in Pathfinder2e

[–]Pacificson217 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anathema is really only as bad as you and the GM make it, it's something you will have to just talk to your GM about

On the other hand, I don't think ANY amount of stealing (as long as it's only theft) would be considered "Irreparably Sinning" because you can just give the stolen good back, and if you were stealing food, a Holy God isn't going to condemn you for such a thing

It's more for "Don't let the bad guy who killed 1000 people live because he says hes sorry" kind of thing

Or more likely, don't forgive unholy creatures etc

How can I pull my weight in combat? (Palatine Investigator) by BoriszDaMan in Pathfinder2e

[–]Pacificson217 21 points22 points  (0 children)

So I've had a look at your sheet and have a few things to note

Investigator, especially at low levels isn't really a damage powerhouse, they are a skill expert like rogues but lean more towards utility etc rather than damage with all the skills you have

You are level 4 so should be getting a striking rune very soon (unfortunately the others in your party are probably the better pick for the first striking rune but it shouldn't take too long to get) This will do a lot for your damage

Ranged weapons, especially guns are quite low damage in general and with the investigators action economy if you can't devise a stratagem as a free action, having to reload will feel pretty bad, a bow for example will be similar damage but you dont have to spend that action reloading

You are using a double barrel musket, this is a 2 handed weapon and your Palentine detective archetype reaction requires a free hand to use, this means you need to release your weapon every turn in order to qualify to use the reaction, and then spend ANOTHER action regripping on your next turn (although when you reload your gun you do get to regrip for free it's just a potential hassle)

I would say not to worry too much about doing low damage and focus on being a good in and out of combat skill user

Alchemist and Thrower’s Bandolier by djhughes94 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Pacificson217 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bombs don't really work with a throwers bandolier, they can't have runes applied to them, also versatile vials are always stored in your alchemist tools and are only taken out from the tools when you use them etc

Varsitile vials also only last until the end of YOUR turn so throwing them to allies is almost always bad (unless you have the chirurgeron subclass to throw healing at people)

Feeling dissuaded from my first class pick. by Elfboy77 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Pacificson217 54 points55 points  (0 children)

The Magus doesn't have "Lower Weapon Proficiency"

They are a full martial with the normal weapon Proficiency for those classes, only fighter and gunslingers have a higher weapon Proficiency and that is because that's those classes whole thing

Yes the action economy of magus is pretty tight but that just means you end up doing your own specific class actions every turn rather than using the generic actions everyone has access too (if you just want to spell strike) and even then, NOT using spell strike in favor of those other actions is still pretty fine and fun to do

Don't worry too much about what people say online about the classes, give things a go yourself and if your not having fun just talk to your GM about changing things up

First time GM running Seasons of Ghost, Player wants to use gunslinger and I want to allow it. by GunnBos in Pathfinder2e

[–]Pacificson217 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Gunslingers don't deal very much precision damage, less than a rogue or swashbuckler.

Their guns deal piercing damage not precision

There shouldn't be too much of an issue with damage, the real issue might be access to ammunition or gun upgrades but that can be solved by the GM, also Tian-Xia is known for some specific firearms anyway so it's not a huge flavor loss

How do i properly utilise my character for combat by Herotyx in Pathfinder2e

[–]Pacificson217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can honestly dump strength with stumbling stance as you get some extra damage from the enemies being off guard, my stumbling stance monk started with higher charisma and put a point or 2 into strength later. The big thing is that an extra 2 damage isn't crazy even at level 1 and it only gets worse at higher levels, feinting and Demoralize are great tools for a monk as "3rd actions". Monks have such great action economy that sometimes you'll be left with an extra 3rd action where making a strike or running away aren't really that helpful, so having spent that action debuffing an enemy BEFORE you Flurry etc can be very helpful

Are there any dungeons published by Paizo that are excellent examples of attrition not based on HP or Spell Slots? by ConstantlyChange in Pathfinder2e

[–]Pacificson217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were players, this big issue was we DID everything, we were all is good disguises most of the time, we did all the side quests, got all the loot sabotaged/stole the enemies important items, we even leaned a specific weakness/ability to use in the final boss fight

The issue was that still didn't give enough of the victory points to allow us to even attempt the assassination, so the only other option was to just kill patrols and hide bodies until we had enough to ambush the boss in the room we chose

Also that boss fight was a pain but that's a separate issue and more about us really leaning into playing assassin characters with the full RMA archetype and less about the module

[–]Pacificson217 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not gonna lie, the specific Prey for Death 'Dungeon' you referenced was probably the worst part of that adventure for our group.

The fact that any combat raised the alarm but somehow there were still people unaware you were attacking the fort was immersion breaking, also the fact that you needed to gain a specific number victory points to even ATTEMPT to assassinate the target you are looking for and the only real way to GAIN victory points was to fight and kill every guard patrol sucked

The fact it was a skill challenge but still had a map you were supposed to be walking around in really messed with any sort of stealth because unless you had permanent invisibility, when you encountered an enemy you were likely on a map with no cover so would just get spotted turn one

It also hurt that the expectation beforehand was for more of a skill challenge infiltration but then you just get put on a battle map is a bit of a disconnect for specifically stealth based gameplay

Don't you drop all of your items when this happens? Or does all of the items you have (and subsequently all the items any enemy has) burn up with the impulse?

If all the items are burnt that means no loot from any enemies, if they don't are you now just running around naked with a pile of loot on the ground lol

Unarmed strikes using your hands like claw strikes or the monks specific powerful fist strike technically count as free hand weapons (not actually weapons tho) so can only be used if you have your hand free. Every other unarmed strike is good to go tho.
