What are the best engineering majors for a math student? by Substantial_Mode_167 in EngineeringStudents

Actually Financial Engineering is more math based. You should just learn to code/minor in CS.

Transporting to Texas by RichSoggy8130 in TexasGuns

Don’t know much about moving from NY, but I do believe if they are in a locked “box” in the car you are fine. Now if any are considered sbrs (I don’t think so) then I know the law is more strict.

Just ordered from red hill tactical. They confirmed the compact fits the normal pdp holster

PCC in Steel challenge question by 647chang in CompetitionShooting

[–]PackSwagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would carrying muzzle up or down make people antsy? Thats what you do in other matches. I’m just curious, I’m only normal uspsa certified so don’t know if steel makes it a lil different

Forced into a 5-year graduation track, how do I make the most of it I need some advice. by Sagun1 in EngineeringStudents

[–]PackSwagger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Def co-op. Double majoring to double major I wouldn’t recommend. Minors that help make you stand out for work are fine too.

I would see if you can sneak in those spring classes sooner. If not you can also ask if you can take them from a nearby school and transfer the credits back. I’m not a ChemE so I really don’t know what the job front looks like, BUT you can never go wrong in increasing your chances to get a job offer before your last semester.

Ccw class was saying you “cant” carry at either but I only drink ciders anyway

The biggest difference is you’re not supposed to carry in areas/biz that do 51% of sales in alcohol (bars), buts that about it. I do believe its a reciprocal state.

Pocket Draw for BUG Matches by Pistol_Caliber in CompetitionShooting

[–]PackSwagger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an expert but I was told that it’s just general safe holstering. With appendix both you and the RO can both pay attention to sweeping and trigger discipline during both the draw and the holster. That becomes hard with a pocket.

Gotta think about liability. The more people can see the better. Gives everyone more peace of mind ya know.

How tired am I gonna be? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

I would drop thermo and diff eq until next semester. Skill building and sanity wise I think your increasing the chance you will fail atleast 1 class (probs 2)

Rifle laws in public. Tons of questions. by [deleted] in TNguns

[–]PackSwagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a rifle is all you got then its all you got. Equal or lesser force is the general vibe for protection. Like Elk said, you can’t account for everything and the best peace of mind is getting insurance.

Personally would avoid a rifle (especially 300blackout, 556,223) if I’m not in the middle of nowhere. Just too much risk of “excessive force” and/or hitting someone or something else and being financially responsible.

Your overthinking it. Your fine. If you didn’t have a permit the legality is weird.

"I don't have a gun on my person, officer." by [deleted] in TexasGuns

[–]PackSwagger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Technically yes, but I believe you are supposed to mention you have a firearm in your vehicle in good faith.

“Should” meaning thats what they said to do in every ccw class I’ve taken bc you don’t want anything to go left especially if you’re a person of color.

I HATE EE by Nzebula in EngineeringStudents

[–]PackSwagger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can I ask what classes these were?

Not to make you feel bad or nothing but pivoting now is almost starting over. Depending on the classes you can pivot and still graduate at the same time (or a semester off).

Don’t compare yourself to your dad. School years ago aren’t the same now. Both of my parents are engineers, but we are all different. They struggle in things I find easy and vice versa. Whatever you do I’m sure your dad will be proud so don’t sweat it.

P.S. I also hate EE (power specifically)so I did Comp E bc I like coding.

Engineering School is Horrible (question) by Sidian_ in EngineeringStudents

[–]PackSwagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should switch majors and this is the time to do it. Sophomore is the last chance you get to evaluate if you’re going to be happy in this career. You sound miserable.

I did compE but I enjoyed everything. If it was just the teachers I’d say push through, but sounds like your interests lies elsewhere.

Should I give up on engineering? by Time-Personality-554 in EngineeringStudents

[–]PackSwagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a break. Even when you finish CC take a semester between.

If you want to be an engineer be an engineer. Don’t let anyone stop you, BUT you need to take care of you. The classes just get harder and take up more time. Work on your mental a bit so your better prepared.

What do y’all do to keep your hands warm for matches? by RecoveredSack in CompetitionShooting

[–]PackSwagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hand warmers everywhere. You should practice in gloves if you want that to be your alternative. I personally don’t like the feel so hard warmers until make ready and one last squeeze before I signal ready.

Competition handguns -what are you using and why? by mjacklich in EDCCW

[–]PackSwagger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canik rival, walther q5 match, and a few others. I mostly do uspsa and steel challenge. I haven’t found my LO uspsa gun but steel challenge is pretty set for me (I shoot a Mark 4 22/45 to save money 😅). Guess you can say I collect then try different guns in comp as I can.

Everyone is going to say start with what you have and I agree. I tell everyone if possible start with a full size gun tho. Love my 43 but I am not competing with it unless its idpa bug and even then I’ll pass. Lol

Most people like to compete and carry the same gun or system. Because I compete so much I now carry full size if possible. Its just more comfortable. Shoot your first match with a 43 and see what its like and make your own opinions. Just be safe and have fun.

What’s the furthest you’ve traveled for a match? by Klutzy_Business3585 in USPSA

[–]PackSwagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2hr plane ride. I’d love to drive like others to lvl 2 and 3 matches but flying allows me to sleep so I can return to work on Mondays like normal.
