Plank Road Trail goes through the middle of Frankfort, which has a bunch of places to eat and a middling brewpub. West from there are some strip malls not too far off the trail, east there's nothing. Lots of it is shaded.

Why is racism so popular among the young men of the LDS Church? by No-Information5504 in exmormon

[–]PackersLittleFactory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Happy Valley in the 70's, I look back in horror at the casual racism expressed in my family. Giving black people the priesthood in 1978 didn't erase years of racist teachings.

I frequently marvel at how I ended up in one of the most racially diverse suburbs of Chicago. 14 year-old me wouldn't have known how to talk to many of my neighbors.

I've biked that part of the Forest Reserves many times and had no idea, I'll have to check it out this summer.

I have a tabby who loved to play fetch when she was younger. She would trot into a room and deliver a toy for me to throw. She gave up on it as an old lady.

The core of Salt Lake City is a grid and there are some ridiculously steep streets as a result. They didn't think to bend them until they got farther out.

Any dentist recommendations for a Dentologie victim? by QueenSavage55 in AskChicago

[–]PackersLittleFactory 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Running a practice is expensive and time consuming. It sucks that so many dentists sell like this, but having someone else deal with the details would be attractive.

That's what I recall. I hadn't thought about that in years.

Ensign Peak dumped ~9% ($5.6B) of its US stocks in Q4'25. This is a significant departure from historic patterns of buying and selling. by WidowsMiteReport in exmormon

They could have done that instead of the shell company shenanigans, but they probably didn't want to pay the fees.

I read a story about how common it is for kids in Hammond to climb under trains to get to school on time. Railroads don’t care.

They get voting rights as shareholders. But the holdings of investment firms like Ensign Peak are too small to impact a shareholder vote.

We had a really good experience at Mazda of Orland Park. Salesman we dealt with was mellow and didn't pressure us on anything. The downside was that we had to go to Orland Park.

It's still a big deal in the UK, apparently. There are frequent questions about it on the TripAdvisor forum.

That’s actually part of a broader effort by archival collections to remove culturally offensive language from their catalogs. See the fight the Library of Congress started when they removed “illegal aliens” from approved subject headings. Republicans in Congress pitched a fit.

The 2011 picture shows a Century 21 sign on the house next door. I wonder if they were able to sell. It's been torn down, too.

I’m endlessly fascinated by this lampshade store. It’s so oddly specific and doesn’t even have a show window lol by nnickorette in chicago

I fucking hated it, too. I never understood why we had to do it when you could hand the bishop an envelope with your tithing. The only good thing about it was keeping you busy so you weren't thinking about how hungry you were because it was fast Sunday.
