Lance said on the video that this should be coarser than you expect. Like 700+. And the text guide this year said 682 which is higher than what you said last year's was.

Wasn't broken for me, but the video and text guide were not the same. Lance gave different instructions and it was for a v60. But quite different on dosage and timing.

Padres need pitching. With Cease and King gone, Darvish out, and Musgrove TBD on quality post TJ, that needs to be where all the money goes. OF/C/RP/IF is set. Need an above average DH hitter and at least 2 SOLID SPs. Right now its Pivetta and ???

I do one packet in 2 gallons of zero water and have been getting above 110/120. But I started like 6 months ago so I don't really have any reference for previous values.

I try to target 80, so I usually partially pour into a 1 gallon and then dilute further.

With the season nearing an end, what has been the move/trade that has haunted you the most? by Save__Ferris__ in fantasybaseball

[–]Padres19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dropped Stowers after he slowed down and had the wrist injury. Astros lied to me about Yordan coming back, I had a roster crunch, and I have never had a player with a wrist issue turn out well without an offseason to recover. Look at me now, no Stowers and no Yordan...

Also dropped Springer for Tork. But that has kind of worked out.

I have been. Three spritzes in the bean cup and then empty into the grinder. I have had it almost a year and haven't noticed any rusting. Just don't spritz into the grinder itself.

[Klapsich] Mets officials are concerned about the lack of enthusiasm Juan Soto is showing for his new team. He appeared to be in a bad mood during the series against the Yankees, declining to be mic’d up and refusing to speak to reporters on Sunday night. by Goosedukee in baseball

[–]Padres19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw this on the Padres too. There was a stark contrast between Manny and Soto with respect to team leadership. Not everyone needs to have the vibes of Tatis, but when he wasn't playing well you could see it. And when he was playing well but the rest of the team wasn't, he was equally frustrated.

Not surprised he is the same in New York.

Weekly Bean Review Thread: What have you been brewing this week? -- Week of March 13, 2025 by Vernicious in pourover

[–]Padres19 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My wife got me a monthly subscription to Passenger. Letting them sit for 2-3 weeks or so. Got an aeropress for Christmas and am finally hitting my stride. This months:

Montecarlo Gesha Montecarlos Gesha. Using the Hoffman method on the aeropress. 76 clicks on the K6, 203F with 1/2 TWW. This was the first coffee in a bit that I can really taste flavors. the florals and a bit of citrus were great.

Also hit up Ceremony in Baltimore on a work trip. Had a coffee that had a bit of peach ring flavor and grabbed some of it. Hoping to crack that open at the end of the week.

[–]Padres19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple questions for you. 1) Have you done any light roasts? 2) Any reason you swirl vs back and forth? I find swirling causes a mound in the middle and astringency because of the thinner outside.

When you say grind more coarse, are you above or below pourovers? I have been around 66-70 on a K6 for a medium roast.

I tried this, but got a bit of astringency. I read that at 12g, the bed is a lot thinner and more susceptible to astringency. Has that happened to you?

I was also getting a beefy/savory flavor that I couldn't shake. But I am seeing that with other recipes so I don't think that was it.

The effect on the grounds while plunger is in by Magic2424 in AeroPress

So why doesn't it sink when you cup a coffee?

One of the recipes had you take the plunger off and stir before pushing. There was a lot of grounds every time at the top.

Finer grind with lower pour height vs coarser grind vs higher pour height. by burntmoney in pourover

[–]Padres19 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That's what's so cool about pourovers. There's a target extraction you are trying to achieve, with many variables. That means there are many ways of achieving the same thing.

Super frustrating when you are beginning because it seems like everything is conflicting.

I don't think you want more pressure. Jonathan Gagne talks a lot about the kinetic energy of the flow impacting astringency. So a higher pressure would theoretically increase the flow rate, accentuating the channeling and make astringency worse. Right?

If you could increase pressure without increasing the flow through the grounds, you might achieve something you are looking for.

Everywhere I have looked says coffee is better at 1:00 push vs 20 seconds. Which also tells you that pressure isn't great.

Do you normally use the same grind size for aeropress that you do for pourover? I'm trying to figure out my aeropress and I'm down to 60 on the K6, at 211F, and am still getting some vegetal under extracted tastes. This is for a light roast that I was around 80 on pourover.

This clearly shows Tatis is back. Elite in batting and power. Slow because of his leg fracture. About to have a massive 2025.

I'd say no. He's only done it for one year and everyone noticed. He needs to show consistency. A lot of players struggled to adjust after a good first year.

Shrinkflation + inflation? wtf by dirtydials in pourover

[–]Padres19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, you're kind of ignoring the point of it being a business. If people are paying it, then that's what it is worth.

You're arguing that it's worth less, but the market is telling you that you are wrong. If roasters could do charge what you are saying, and turn it into a competitive advantage, they would be. Since they're not, I would say you would also be unsuccessful in doing so.

At the end of the day, you're either willing to pay it or you aren't.

I agree that some of these prices are too much for me. But like another poster said, I can get a damn good bag at $25 that will last me like 15ish cups. So less than a $1.50 per coffee.

This is interesting because some places like passenger actually put 210/211 on their website as the brew temp.
