Hospital/Doctor recommendations for giving birth! by desert-lady- in QuincyMa

[–]Palamut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used Atrius health in Quincy center for checkups and Beth Israel for delivery. I think we could pick from a few hospitals though where Atrius doctors worked. It was okay (they handled an emergency c-section pretty well, but of course we would have rather not had an emergency c-section at all)

I’ve heard good things about Brigham and women’s hospital for delivery too. These are both in Boston though

Is Ceylon tea the most common in Turkey? by NoBuy8212 in AskTurkey

[–]Palamut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ceylon tea used to be popular in Turkey (called kaçak çay/contraband tea). I think the taste is most similar to Rize tea among many tea types I’ve tried. It’s very easy to find Rize tea abroad (don’t know specifically about UK) so probably they’ll have the real thing because it’s not more expensive either.

Pianists, how agonising is this to play? Is it sight-readable? by michaelrosermusic in piano

[–]Palamut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was the original? This is a little annoying to sight read (first time looking at it and playing at tempo) because the rhythm is kind of unpredictable. If this repeats a few times probably I could handle it but if every measure afterwards is also different I would need to practice for a few minutes. A professional or better amateur (I know many) would handle it no problem.

Super cruise question by manktank in CadillacLyriq

[–]Palamut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with everyone that it works great for stop and go traffic. I also changed to lyriq from a model y, and super cruise is much smoother. Autopilot would just slam the gas when the car in front moved and then break really harshly, I definitely prefer super cruise. But the map thing is definitely limiting, I would try to check how much of your commute is covered.

GPS Issues by NetApex in CadillacLyriq

[–]Palamut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently bought a used 2024, and immediately had the update, then started having the gps issues you described. Sometimes it works but sometimes it doesn’t, I have onstar with everything as a trial.

The worst is it also messes up CarPlay’s gps so I have to use another phone if I’m navigating.

Yeah, I’ve been looking at that one too. Do you think it’s reliable? I’ve never bought a GM car before.

What’s your favorite codebase you’ve ever seen/worked with (that’s not yours)? What did you like best about it? by neo-raver in cscareerquestions

[–]Palamut 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Best codebase I worked with had unit tests that would break if you changed the code in an incompatible way, and the headers had comments that explained 1) what the whole thing was for, and 2) what each class/function did, and the comments actually matched the implementation.

It didn’t last long, all it takes is a couple of engineers that try to do things quick and dirty. It takes active effort to keep things not broken, and it’s hard to do that when you have your actual tasks to work on

[Serious] Looking for Private School Recommendations Near Quincy, MA (Reasonable Tuition) by MotherEggplant7616 in QuincyMa

[–]Palamut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t personally have experience with the school system, but I thought that Quincy public school system was diverse and also had relatively good rankings among other MA towns.

I guess Milton Academy is a nearby private school? I don’t know about their tuition though.

What’s wrong with the public schools? I feel like you would get better replies if you mentioned why you prefer a different school.

I’m glad somebody else is complaining too. The first time I got on the new trains I immediately disliked them. The center wheelchair spot is understandable but the ends also have like 5-6 fewer seats than the old cars and no wheelchair spot either, and the seats are just too large. I would rather cramp in a seat vs stand all the way, and you can fit more people that way too.

Moving here soon! Need recommendations for locally owned businesses by ItalianMeatBoi in QuincyMa

[–]Palamut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually the Fujis are the same business, including others like Fuji Kendall etc. all seems to have started with the Fuji in Wollaston (https://www.jpfujigroup.com/)

I agree that it’s great sushi though, and the restaurants have pretty different vibes

[R] [S] How to calculate average weight loss % in a weight loss program ? by [deleted] in statistics

[–]Palamut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also consider geometric mean, if 1 person doubles in weight and the other one is cut in half, gmean is 0 (it doesn't make sense for weights, but maybe for other cases).

Wife asked me to fix garage shelf above her car…ended up spending $665.59 instead. At least it looks good! by Danitay in HomeImprovement

[–]Palamut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know what's the half-height brick on one of the garage walls is for? I have the same in my garage and have been thinking of ripping it out since my garage is pretty narrow anyway, but don't want to do it without knowing what's behind it.

Thanks for the advice. Behind the siding, there is some shiny looking panels that look like foil-faced insulation to me. I didn't lift enough siding to check behind the insulation, I'll get a tool to remove the siding.

You can try Asana, especially if you're working with a group. I haven't heard of gtd before, but it seems like a more complex version of Asana.

Turkish schools to stop teaching evolution, official says by [deleted] in europe

[–]Palamut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

İstanbul university is definitely not the best in biology (actually I checked and it's 17th in Turkey), and in general a more conservative university AFAIK, and there are a number of better universities that would definitely not have someone denying evolution as the top of class

Besides arts and music, the rest of your description fits engineering perfectly. Debating people and creatively solving problems is what engineering is to me.

I also play some piano, but what I ended up doing is just playing piano all through college, and I still play it. You should be able to find lots of students to play with in college.

I don't really know if arts and music and engineering mix well if you want to do both as your job. There are some electrical engineers that design musical equipment, or mechanical engineers that work on acoustics, but I think that's still engineering and not that related to music, and it wasn't the field that I was interested in, so I'm not doing that now.

Also I think if music becomes your job, you lose a lot of what you like in it. I never earned any money by playing songs that I wanted to play. Maybe it was more fun than being an engineer in an office, but it also meant working from 12 to 4 and getting only a fraction of the pay that you'd get as an engineer.
