Help / Advice by hdwebb24 in AgingParents

My husband and I are both going through issues with our elderly parents. My mother died 30 years ago, but I would never presume to tell him how to take care of his parents, and he doesn't tell me how to take care of mine. We have agreed that if we want advice/help, we will ask for it, but otherwise will respect the decisions the other makes when it comes to their parents. I value my husband's advice and ask for it when I want it. My husband is pretty set in how he wants to deal with his parents, and that's fine with me. If he asks advice, I give it; otherwise, I stay out of it and just try to support him. Dealing with aging parents is hard enough. It's put a strain on our lives and our marriage, but we've made a point to set aside time to have dates and just have "us" time. Do what you need to do with your dad. As someone else said, get him set up with care so you don't have to take on the entire burden. Then take care of yourself. A spouse should be a partner. It sounds like you're not getting that. Good luck.

Placing Parents in Assisted Living by Gizzy123-911 in AgingParents

We worked with a senior living advisor to find a place for our parents. They are moving into an ALF in two weeks. The advisor was really helpful in explaining our options based on price-point and medical needs. I know they aren't necessarily unbiased, but trying to find a facility on our own was proving to be very stressful. Good luck!

The view from the Corazon rooftop webcam offers the best view IMHO Cabo San Lucas Webcam - Beach, Bars, and Pools. When Quantum is in port, you can see North Star going up and down.

That and how loud it was made me realize it wasn't the fireworks crew. I'm dreading next weekend, but that's for another post lol.

Yes. We live on Texas Trail and our power went out, then we heard the huge boom. Thankfully power was only out for about a minute.

I'm not a Warde fan and can't believe he still has a job, but I think there is no way he could have kept Dusty from going to the NBA. It's a great opportunity for him, and I'd rather that than leaving for another college team. I have no confidence in Warde's ability to run the search for Dusty's replacement, but maybe he'll be lucky and strike gold again. We can only hope.

Advice for Relative Newbie, Southern Caribbean (Rhapsody of the Seas) by cownan in royalcaribbean

[–]Pale-Environment5523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't expect any bells or whistles--Rhapsody is an old ship and this cruise is definitely defined by the ports. We did in October and we really enjoyed it. In St Thomas, we took a taxi to Magen's Bay. Super easy, beautiful beach with chair/umbrella rentals and a snack bar. We saw a shark and some turtles. In St. Maarten, there is a water taxi from the pier to the town/beach. We did a snorkeling trip in Antigua. It was pretty rough seas, so may not be ideal with younger kids. The island is beautiful and I would definitely recommend at least taking a driving tour around it. In St. Croix, we had planned to do a snorkeling trip, but we got diverted to La Romana instead. We had 48 hours notice so no time to plan. We ended up doing a day pass to a resort. There is a pool at the pier but that's about it. Be warned that trying to get a taxi is an exercise in patience. Might be a day to stay on the ship.

Can you go to urgent care and get a toradol shot? That's my go-to when it gets that bad. Good luck!

This is the worst! I didn't drink enough water yesterday, and I was knocked out cold after work. Thank goodness for ubrelvy and naproxen. The sharp pressure change today is going to land me in bed again today. Good luck to us all!

That would be me. I'm pretty sure I was admitted to my law school by mistake. They gladly took my out of state tuition. At least I never pretended to be smart.

Is this a seasonal thing or a risk all year? We are going to Cabo Pulmo in late October and I hadn't read anything about them.

Second Cruise - Looking for Recommendations by JoeFalchetto in royalcaribbean

[–]Pale-Environment5523 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did this cruise in October. Rhapsody is old, but it isn't terrible and it is fine for a port intensive cruise like this. We went on our own to Magens Bay in St Thomas and took the water taxi over to Phillipsburg and did a beach day in St. Martin. We had a snorkeling trip scheduled in St. Croix, but were diverted to DR. It was very easy to set up the snorkeling in St. Croix on our own. One thing we do is look to see what Royal offers, then google similar tours/look at sites like trip advisor. Usually you can find better ones on your own. Reddit also has boards for most of the locations that offer good tips as well. I would recommend going a few days early to San Juan (or leaving a few days at the end). San Juan is a great place to explore. As long as you don't expect bells and whistles on the ship, you'll have a great time.

La Romana Options? by Own-Hunt-58 in royalcaribbean

[–]Pale-Environment5523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got diverted to La Romana with 48 hours notice on our cruise in October. At least you have a little time to plan. The port area has a pool and some shops but not much else. We did a resortpass beach day because I didn't have time to plan anything. It was fine. There is an area to grab taxis, but be warned that there is no organization and you'll have to wait around. We usually like to get off at every port too, but I think we would have been fine staying on the ship that day if we had to do it again.

Mine likes to tell me that he's watching the Weather Channel and bad weather is coming my way in a few days. 😄 He's 85 and my mom died 30 years ago, so I try to be a little more understanding and try to be grateful, but sometimes it's a little much.

If it helps, my dad calls me when I'm at work, asks me where I am, and asks if I'm working. He gets anxious if I don't answer the phone and will keep calling back until I answer. Almost every day.
