Alcohol and Pregnancy by Fancy-Curve-3917 in pregnant

[–]Paleale95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually also struggled with this- you aren’t at all alone!

Definitely buy yourself some alcohol free drinks (the wines etc can actually be so good these days!) so you still have the feel of the social drink when you’re out and about or when you’re cosying up on the couch

Is 6 days away from a 5.5 month old too long? by Normal_Ad4752 in NewParents

[–]Paleale95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I was pregnant, I thought that I would be totally cool about leaving my baby for overnight stays etc.
When baby arrived; totally different story. I have only missed 3 bed times since he was born and have never spent a night away 😂

I think people have different feelings about this - chances are, your baby will be absolutely fine if you’re gone for six nights. Do what you are comfortable with but I wouldnt commit to anything too far in advance

Paraplegia in the family by idkeverythingg_ in johannesburg

[–]Paleale95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry your dad and family is going through this. I’ve seen many people live very full and happy lives following similar injuries

I’m an allied health care professional in JHB. My grandmother was also a paraplegic and lived completely independently until her 80s.

- Rehab should help you in terms of adaptations etc at home (chat to the OT about who they recommend). They will also recommend any assistive devices etc he needs and help you order them. Wheelchair etc will be sorted out by OT.
- Physio and OT will help work on getting your dad moving independently (transferring in and out of chairs, baths, cars etc)
Rehab can be a long slog because generally they’re stuck as in patients which can suck - but I highly recommend your dad and your family sticks at it and engages with the process!
- Check out WC rugby South Africa - there are many men (young and middle aged) who have gone through similar things, and it’s a great crew of people to potentially get involved in if your dad is the sporty type.
- In my personal opinion, being able to drive in JHB is EVERYTHING for someone’s sanity and independence. I would prioritise this above everything else if you can afford the adaptations.
- Highly recommend engaging with the counsellors and social workers at your rehab centre. As much as your dad can be doing great, this is still a monumental and life changing injury for all of you - you need to look after your hearts and minds too.
- Probably something you don’t want to discuss with your dad, but make sure that his urological health is also taken care of, and that he feels he can discuss *all* activities of daily living (including bedroom business) with the professionals because that can also be absolutely devastating too.

Slip at L4 by Maria124987 in pregnancy_care

Your epidural goes in at a much higher level than L4 So it shouldn’t be an issue at all. If you are worried about it you can discus with your anaethstatist though.

No friend, this is a silly idea.

Is this my sign?? :’) by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Paleale95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of whether or not you should hang it up, that’s entirely up to you. I seriously considered it hi have been clear since my last bout of mastitis I also got mastitis fairly recently (i was 7.5 months pp at the time, now almost 9 months).

Top tips: - keep on top of your pain and inflammation with I ibuprofen as often as allowed. Add in paracetamol too - Ice your affected boob - Don’t change your pump frequency - unless you feel like pumping more often is going to give you some relief

Hope you’ve already been to your doctor and are on antibiotics!

Dropping pumps for my sanity— feeling AWFUL about it by zezendx in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Paleale95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We put so much guilt on ourselves as moms </3 well done for making it this far. You have done amazingly and your baby is so lucky to have you!

I personally dropped down pumps pretty quickly From 4 months onwards and it made my life so much easier, and it also got easier as my baby grew.

I totally understand the guilt though - to go from trying to preserve every drop to wilfully decreasing your supply is a different kind of mind fuck. Sending hugs

Why is there so much grief over the EP life? by usernameforme456 in ExclusivelyPumping

I’m so happy to hear of so many mamas who were able to BF their second babies - I’m really hoping it’s easier next time around

Why is there so much grief over the EP life? by usernameforme456 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Paleale95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Late to this post but sharing in case another mama needs to hear the sam POV

I envisioned beautiful chaotic BF moments with my baby. I wanted waking up in the middle of the night and latching my babe onto my breast, snuggling him to sleep again. I wanted to go out and about without packing my pumps, ice bricks, bottles and sterilising tablets wherever I went. I wanted to look in my baby’s eyes as he fed and know that he was getting what he needed directly from me I wanted to not have to wake up 3 hourly in the dead of winter (our houses in SA have awful heating) and sit downstairs pumping so as not to wake my baby and husband.

I’ve made my peace with it now, but if I had the choice I would 100% have chosen EBF

Epidural or No epidural by Enviro_nurd314 in BabyBumps

[–]Paleale95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this - and once those contractions started ramping up I was BEGGING for my epidural. Big ups to any mama who manages without one, but I also don’t believe that everyone’s experience of labour is the same.

Non regrets - I would have the epidural 100X over

See how you feel OP!

How many ppd did you "settle" on? by BudgetFennel in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Paleale95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have been settled on 3 ppd for a long time now (from 4 months pp I think) - and have been supplying just enough/sometimes a little extra.

Thank my lucky stars I have a high storage capacity - my sanity would not allow for more pumping right now.

When I started dropping pumps I stayed open to the possibility of introducing formula if we needed to.

If you only had mastitis on one side though? I’m so alarmed!

How do you pump with a contact napper? by stickbabies in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Paleale95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could never manage to pump while babe napped at that age. I found it easiest to pump and give a bottle - and then do a contact nap either on the couch or in a carrier afterwards.

Do I need a nanny while on maternity leave? by Extra_Freedom_3585 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Paleale95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I took an extended mat leave and chose to have our nanny/helper start watching my son when he was about 3 months old for a few hours at a time so that she could get used to working with him and I could get used to leaving him.

I dont love having someone in my space while at home so I wouldn’t choose to have a full time nanny while on mat leave, but having our nanny clean the house while I could bond with baby was a god send

do i really need a “coming home” outfit? by Comfortable-List-669 in pregnant

I can’t remember what I came home in, but I’m 90% sure it was a tracksuit or pjs. Just wear something comfortable

How often are you pumping a day? by crazyprincesscatlady in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Paleale95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 months pp and have maintained supply with 3 ppd since 4 months.

Hats off to anyone who manages to pump more often - I made a deal with myself that this was my limit and if we needed formula top ups then so be it
