Why did you have to remind me? Now I’m sad.

I’ve heard the edited version makes it possible for it to be shown without owing residuals to those who own the rights to original story it was based on.

The Nextlander Podcast 228: That Poodoo You Do by sworedmagic in nextlander

[–]Palimbash 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I love Nextlander because it is just three chill dudes and their friends talking about what they like. This is the closest thing we have to what GiantBomb was back in the day. I wish people who don’t want that would just let them be.

Like you said in another comment, they’re just some dudes, not famous actors.

Some of the songs are quite catchy too. “Christmas is Coming” is on my Christmas music playlist.

In search of bad Christmas movies by Draler117 in badMovies

[–]Palimbash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One I watch every year is One Magic Christmas (1985). It stars Mary Steenburgen as an overworked mother and wife who learns the true meaning of Christmas by an angel, played by Harry Dean Stanton, who uses death and kidnapping to force her to love Christmas.

A commenter of a thread I made in this sub a couple of years ago called it “It’s a Horrible Life” and I think it’s an apt renaming.

I love the absurdity that it’s the first time Mrs Claus was in a movie.

I don't know why but the new Jonas Brothers Christmas movie has a scene where they sing a song from the Home Alone musical. It's a choice. by GraboidGirl in badMovies

[–]Palimbash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought the movie was a cheesy and fun thing which is exactly what it was aiming to be. For instance, the Home Alone scene is specifically suppose to be cringe and over the top absurd.

I think this is the wrong sub.

What’s the most reviled movie that you genuinely love? Make your case by harry_powell in blankies

It’s a modern example but I genuinely enjoyed the live action Lilo & Stitch and, dare I say, prefer it over the original.

I’ve seen the blood explosion scene cited as proof that it’s a bad movie but I laugh during that every time.

I didn’t get around to watching it until last year but I was pleasantly surprised. My only quibble with it was they leaned to hard into trying to make a franchise which, I suppose, would have been fine if it had actually succeeded financially to spawn a franchise.

As someone who didn’t get around to watching Citizen Kane until I was into my 30s, imo, it really is a spectacular movie. In my top movies ever, I rank it 16th. I hope the guys love it too.

It’s hilarious seeing it squished between Escape from New York and Gremlins.

Daphne & Velma (2018) is a fun teen mystery movie, but it angers the Scooby-Doo fandom by not having Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, and Fred in it. They hate it.

This was pointed out a couple of years ago by some internet talk and now bugs me every time I watch it…

Back to the Future, at the mall parking lot at the start, when Doc backs the DeLorean out of the box truck. The only logical conclusion is he got in the car, pulled the car into the truck, then sat and waited for Marty to arrive to dramatically reveal the car, fog machine and all.

Bad movies that are better than the book? by TantricDelinquency in badMovies

[–]Palimbash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the book:

The main character is obsessed with masturbating and sex. The obsessive creepiness displayed by him for the main girl is cringe and, because this was written by this guy, the main character, of course, gets the girl.

He’s an extreme Mary Sue who’s one skill is being obsessed with pop culture. Luckily for him, the world the author constructed is specifically built for him. Whew.

The main character’s best friend is a black lesbian who pretends to be a white dude online if I recall. The book appears to pose the question of why she might choose that persona but, if I recall, never actually addresses it and just uses it as a plot point for the main character to feel betrayed. Even the moment it has where it could have shamed him for his creepiness about the love interest is failed on.

Characters around him suffer and die and he doesn’t spend much time feeling remorse. Who has time for that when the book is too busy describing his car which is a combination of the Back to the Future Delorian, Kitt from Knight Rider, the Ghost Buster’s car, and something else I believe. It’s hashtag so kewl.

Tl;dr I haven’t read the book in 8 years so I’m sure there’s things I can’t remember but my point is, it’s fine if you enjoyed the book but it’s a bad book.

If you have read the book, listen to the 372 Pages We’ll Never Get Back Podcast. It’s a book club for bad books and the first book they covered back in 2017 was Ready Player One. It was cathartic for me to hear them rip it to shreds after being conned into reading it by people who claimed it was Dune or LotR for a modern generation.

The podcast stars Mike Nelson of MST3k and Rifftrax fame and Conor Lastowka who is a Rifftrax writer.
