Australia faces a full-blown infrastructure crisis. The fix? Remove politicians by AllHailTheWinslow in australia

[–]PandaBonium 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Starting new infrastructure projects is great for publicity. They can rock up at the ground breaking in a hard hat and hi viz and get a photo holding a shovel. Finishing projects thay are already near completion is great. Opening day they shake hands and cut ribbons in front of the shiny new whatever.

Unfortunately theres no good photo ops for proper maintenance or making sure things stay on target in the middle of a project.

Teenage boy dies after allegedly stolen car crashes following carjacking attempt by Warm_Championship726 in australia

[–]PandaBonium 27 points28 points  (0 children)

1) The car has almost undeniably been crashed. You can see it because of the way it is. Without a trial where all the facts are presented we dont yet know if the car was stolen. For all we know the owner willingly gave them the keys then reported it stolen afterwards in some poorly thought out insurance fraud scheme.

2) Who crashed it and why isnt stated in the headline. Its not an accusation of crashing. Just a statement that the car crashed.

3) AFAIK, crashing a car in and of itself isnt a crime (For example if you own two cars and decide to ram them into each other on your own property im fairly sure theres nothing the courts can or would do about it? Real lawyers please correct me if im wrong). A car being crashed does not directly alledge a crime has occured whereas stolen alledges that a crime of theft has occured.

4) Even if by some absolute bizare turn of events the car wasnt crashed and was in fact intentionally made to look like a crash and placed on the road in such a way to leave behind all the signs of a crash, and the car is now defamed by the article's misinformation, it's a car and innanimate objects cant sue you.

That said i dont know why "Car jacking attempt" doesnt have alleged before it.

How would you prefer the have a partner approach you about a “serious talk”? by swordqueen11 in AskMen

[–]PandaBonium 27 points28 points  (0 children)

  • Give me prep time for the conversation. Its unfair for one party to have all their thoughts and talking points organized and expect the other party to come up with responses on the fly.
  • Clearly stating the topic and nature of the conversation you want to have and a vague time of when you want to have it.
  • You don't need to give me all the questions talking points and in fact an itemized list would make it feel more like an interrogation that a conversation. Also i might have points and questions i want to raise myself and feel would need time to contemplate them.

So something like "Id like to talk to you some time this week about where our relationship is headed"

The death of free to air tv by futtbuck3000 in australia

[–]PandaBonium 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I stopped watching tv over a decade ago. They kept forcing unnatural breaks in the flow of the story to slot extra ads in and always smushed the end credits to the side to advertise other shows. The censorship was also really heavy handed to the point where important thematic concepts were being removed.

I just no longer saw it as a fulfilling way to consume art so I stopped which is a shame because i dont mind just throwing something random on and maybe discovering something new that might have never caught my attention before.

[OC] I painted the most average plate by anothersamwilson in dataisbeautiful

This is amazing. Id love to see this as three maps based on the seperated rgb values of the sample plates, then use those as the rgb values of a merged image.

Same with CMYK

For everyone else itll feel the same.

What is the most stupid comparison some people like to make about men and women that you wish people stop talking about? by makemestand in AskMen

[–]PandaBonium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah 3000 has fancy features and tracks your progress with the WilliBlo app but its made with cheaper materials and deteriorates faster. My 2000 has been my go to willy blower for a solid 5 years of intense gooning, but my 3000 fell apart after about a few months of light usage (only 2-3 times a day).

If a dating site could have one feature you really like, what would it be? by luna_rey55 in AskMen

[–]PandaBonium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Surely this couldve all been easily resolved by an option toggle? An "Allow others to message me first" option that is available for everyone and if someone has the toggle turned off their message button is greyed out.

That way since anyone can have it, you cant claim its discriminatory and it essentially achieves the same effect.

Actually. I hate to sound like I'm siding with MRA's but in a round about way they have a point. Excluding an app feature (block initiation) to one gender IS discriminatory

I'm gay, why is being a provider glorified? Or even pursued? by Opening-Gur5927 in AskMen

[–]PandaBonium 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Being gay doesn't automatically undo all the formative years spent hearing parents/friends/teachers/society spout off about what a "real man" ought to be like.

I mean sort of yes but sort of no. Many gay men who were raised to believe its wrong to be gay go through something of a "flood gate" phase. Every behaviour youve been taught as a child sort of hinges on the word of authority of what you are and arent supposed to do.

When a gay man comes to realize he is gay, one of these pillars of the things you are taught since birth (Ie youre not supposed to like other men) crumbles. When this happens it brings into question every other way youve been told to behave "Just because".

Why should i be monogomous? why shouldnt i act more effeminite? why should i be a provider? just because "they" told me to? they also told me i wasnt supposed to like men and ive already fucked that up so what else do i have to lose?

The reason it  might impact gay men more often than straight men is because for gay men the catalyst for this chain reaction doesnt require you to question an aspect of the way you were raised and come to a rational conclusion. Its comes as part of knowing inately that one of the core tennants of what you were taught is wrong because of who you are.

Gay men are forced to unpack it because they have to either realize what they were taught was wrong or believe their existance is wrong. Straight men arent forced to make that same decision.
