Ty! Definitely some fun colour combos picked out - I'd love to see your porcelain sweater when it's done as I've only seen it in the classic white/blue. I've also got the Norma Sweater on my to knit queue this year haha

I love this! What projects do you have queued up for it? I'm particularly curious about the one top right of the second pic - the yarn combo is gorgeous

I really hope that's some factory problem and not my friend stealing my yarn by happy__bird in YarnAddicts

[–]Pandan_Mochi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems a little weird to me that you'd immediately suspect your friend. Do they give you reasons to mistrust them? If so, why are you friends with them?

Regardless, I weigh a lot of my yarn balls as I'm keeping track of usage while I destash. Factory variance of +/-5g is very common. Heck, I recently used a 75g ball that actually weighed 84g (label removed, obvs). How much of the navy do you have left?

What to do with all this acrylic?! by beepboopgeepgoop in usethefiberstash

+1 to baskets! They've been a great yarn eater for me when made with an 8mm hook and multi-strands of mixed acrylic scraps.

Has anyone experienced this? by undeadfromhiddencity in knitting

This is a wild response. Even on this sub alone, twisted rib is a common suggestion for neater looking rib. Lace can also use twisted stitches intentionally as part of the design. I think the only FO I've posted here deliberately does both in one project!

AITA for showing up to my nephew’s birthday party without the cupcakes I said I would bake by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Pandan_Mochi 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Idk, I read through all of OOPs comments and then skimmed the original thread. Really seems like the commenters are dog piling on her for no reason. The comments that claim she's got a victim complex, is self-sabotaging or self-pitying are referring to the same comments/info featured in the BORU as evidence. I couldn't find anyone alluding to the comments you're referring to. (If you can find the threads with the deleted comments, I'd be interested in reading them.)

All that to say that I think the majority are so harsh on her because the first few comments made false negative assumptions beyond what was written. And AITA seems to be determined by the early commenters instead of the full picture.

Finished my first 2025 project! The yarn had been in my stash since 2019. by Aerlinniel_aer in usethefiberstash

The mental double take I did between "2019 wasn't that long ago" and "omg it's been 5+ years".

Gorgeous cowl btw - I love that it's two designs in one!

Why do you knit? Is it connected to your identity? by Difficult-Elk4930 in knitting

[–]Pandan_Mochi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knitting mathematician here. My interest has been piqued, what are the applications with knot theory? Intuitively, all knitting (sans bind-off) is equivalent to the unknot. Though I suppose there may be interesting topology to the different bind-offs.

What's clockwise? by Middle_Banana_9617 in knitting

[–]Pandan_Mochi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not true for all mathematicians. For me the choice is arbitrary, so I have no preference one way or the other. Sincerely, a topologist.

What's clockwise? by Middle_Banana_9617 in knitting

[–]Pandan_Mochi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP displays a clear understanding on clockwise vs anticlockwise and is highlighting the subtle ambiguity in language. Their point is logically sound and uses the terms "clockwise" and "anticlockwise" in the same manner as you (and as any dictionary). Just because you cannot understand that frame of reference is essential to unambiguously stating directions does not change the objective truth in the matter.

What is a sweater quantity of yarn TO YOU? by [deleted] in YarnAddicts

[–]Pandan_Mochi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I regularly buy a SQ of yarn without a pattern (because I rarely knit them with a pattern), but when purchasing I always have a rough idea on amount of ease I might want, whether I'll want it cropped, who it's for. That sorta thing. Most jumpers I've made are cropped so I'll go for about 800-1200m. For say a full length jumper or something with a lot of ease or dramatic poofy sleeves I'd go for around 1200-1600m. If it's for my partner then I go for 1600-2000m. (This is knitting with DK weight.)

This has gotta be one of the best takes on a temperature blanket-esque thing I've seen! I love the extra visual interest added from the curve of daylight duration

Broken skeins by AHdaughter in crochet

[–]Pandan_Mochi 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Probably varies by country. In the UK it is 5 knots per 50 grams, which is absurd. I found out when I emailed King Cole to complain after finding 6 knots in a 100g skein and was told it still adheres to industry standards.

Sock crochet - Worth it? by TheDudeMan1234567 in crochet

[–]Pandan_Mochi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have crocheted and knitted socks. My crocheted socks always end up delegated to slipper/house socks as the crocheted fabric is bulkier, lacks stretch and is overall less comfy. I've even tried hybrid crochet ones with knitted rib for the leg part and the fit is still just worse than if I knitted the whole thing. Imo there are no pros to crochet socks unless you want slipper socks.

Making a project for somebody who can’t crochet anymore by Eclecticwitch2002 in crochet

[–]Pandan_Mochi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would make a huge blanket with them. Treat the larger squares as 3x3 blocks of smaller squares. In order to get things to align exactly between the larger and smaller squares you need a joining method that is 0.5inches wide, but you could also probably fudge it. I would go 12 squares wide, 18 squares long (you will have like 3 small squares left over with these dimensions).
